The fact is there are more messy product lineup and far more trade-offs in the product. Tim Cook is undoubtedly not the right person to be leading at Apple.

but he is a better listener than Jobs, if it werent for him we will be stucked with one sized ipad and iphone, no affordable budget level devices and restricted to the simplest interface software or operating system.

Tim also made the Apple the $1 trillion company that it is today.

No. It's about the product that does not have huge trade-offs and Tim Cook is very bad at that point or refuses to do it right.

I personally would buy a 8.66mm thick phone with no camera bump and better battery life. Oh well.

that's better too but if they made this thinner and yet able to make a way to match the iphone 11 pro max battery life then its great, its non-sense for them to make thick iphones for enduring battery life just to ditch them the following year for thinness.

the 5nm a14, more efficient screens would consume less power and the newer layout inside the phone would allow bigger battery life without it getting thick.

I do like the current midnight green current color - that would have been the one I would get if I upgraded last Sept.
I'd certainly go with Midnight blue this time. All of my phones have been Space Gray, black.

If this CAD IS true, along with the older rumor this having that flat, non curved (iPhone 4, 5) sides...I personally love that also.
The "notch" - eh what can I say...would prefer not to have it at all - but what can ya do. At least it should be smaller this year.

NOW...hmm, it will all come down to price of course. MAYBE Apple will keep the same price points as 11 Pro when it was released, given the current economic situation??? I cant picture cheaper though for the new flagships.

(11 Pro will drop in $ in Sept.??) We'll see I guess.

The purpose of a CEO is to make the shareholders lots of money, not to satisfy your whims. By that measure, there is likely nobody else who could have done a better job.

People love the product, which is why it sells so well. The fact that you, personally, don’t like the products shows that he is doing the right thing. You can’t make everyone happy, so Apple chooses to make the vast majority of people happy, which pisses off a small percentage of people who will never be happy. The trick is knowing which percentage is which.

At first I was against the squarish sides like the 5 series but after watching this video, I’m starting to like it. Also I would have no choice but to buy the 12 Pro Max as I’m going to upgrade my XS Max anyway this fall. I want the 6.7 inch screen size.

Couple screenshots from the video. Looks promising.

Interesting that they chose to keep the external corner radii the same and make the display corners rounder.

Based on these leaks looks like both of my armchair speculations are quite likely:
- Apple was limited by notch width in making s sub-5.8” fullscreen phone (any smaller and no room for signal/battery/etc.). This is no longer a problem with the slimmer notch so 5.4” is feasible
- The 6.7” iPhone will be the same external dimensions (or very close) to the outgoing Max due to slimmer bezels and flat sides

That’s hardly normal usage now is it? Besides if people need to Charge at an Air port they would buy a battery case. I’ve never needed to charge at an airport why would you need to? The pros for one would last a full day easily anyway

I charge wirelessly everyday so for me a port less phone makes no difference

Apple certainly wouldn’t base their decision on a port less phone based off who may go to an airport
Why stop there? How long til port-less iPads and Macs? No ports is a horrible idea IMO.

Apple will have a long term plan regarding the notch. The first iteration was quite large and the next one will be smaller, there is no point them rushing to having no notch as they need to have a reason to sell more devices. The iPhone 12 design will now be with us until 2023 when hopefully we get a phone without a notch.

It’s not yet paper thin? Design fail.

Quite possibly but the notchless design for iPhone 12 won't be the end of design and that's why Tim Cook is stupid for holding out a dumb screen design for iPhone 11.

Tim Cook is very smart. Nobody cares about the notch. They sell them by the millions. Number one selling smartphone. Tim Cook has made Apple shareholders many billions of dollars.

When you become CEO of a technology company you can do what you want and we’ll see how it goes. I predict not well.

Agreed. But actually I am more annoyed by the camera bump. Battery life never was an issue for me with any iPhone. However, using my phone on a table and seeing it wobble like crazy is infuriating. First world problem, I know.

Too much "flatness" makes this look as boring as the current iPad Pros. Ugly, really. Needs the sweet beveled edges from the iPhone 5/5s/SE (2016) series.

A little bit of big picture design Philosophy not focused for once on thinness and weight might have gone a long way here. Apple could have done something like run the camera bump across the full width as a feature to hold onto a phone more securely. without a case, I constantly feel like my iPhone 8 is going to slip out of my hands. Why is it only the consumers who see the irony in: the device each of us carries around the most is perhaps the slipperiest item we own? If apple’s solution is to just use a case, then why not come up with a genius solution that does not require a case?

I know it won't be as light, but I assume it will be lighter than the X and 11 models.
The square sides will make it nice to hold again
This is what I’m looking forward to. Right now, my iPhone is slippery and the sides don’t help it

The case ecosystem is huge, must keep them going

Where does it say apples’ solution is to use a case. I use a case to protect my investment, but there are enough who go naked. YMMV.

So were the music, magazine, newspaper/print, Nokia-type “dumb” phones, and digital camera industries till Apple. They weren’t spared in the quest for design dominance, so why leave the drop-proofing aids out too?

I don’t remember my camera having a case per se, or my old Nokia phone. They aren’t that difficult to hold and aren’t slippery unlike iPhone

My point is, the one thing we’re all caring around as much as the thoughts in out heads is designed to be as sleek and thin as possible, which too readily translates into slippery and easy to drop. Call me crazy, but truly good design would design more than for being on commercials and advertising and unboxing oohs and ahhs, maybe to the point where the overall design is so good, you don’t even need no stinkin’ case. Or no bag of dongles to make your portable pro device truly pro-worthy. But that’s a separate rant.

Didn't EverythingApplePro say he will have another huge informational video on the iPhone 12 leaks this weekend?

Your view of “truly great design” is different than apples’. Maybe one day Apple will see your point of view.

I think they will one day. They’re steadily reversing much of the dumb interface decisions made at iOS7. It will take a true genius designer who adds goodness the old fashioned way, replacing Jony Ive’s method of trying to add more by taking more and more away.

Revenue (money) is not a singular sign of success. In fact, the related dependence on maintaining growth for shareholders can lead to some awful decisions not focused ultimately on the product(s) that got them to where they are. Just keep watching...

I pray we don’t end up with iOS 6 again.

I pray we don’t end up with iOS 6 again.

I pray you one day re-read the dozens of times I’ve said I’m not asking for the return of iOS6 and it finally sinks in. :) Besides, the things I am speaking of were already enacted in the last few versions of iOS. Each one seems to return more closer to design focused on function first.
