I think it's a fake

Look at the perspective on the power cord. It looks like its 5" tall in this image. And then there's the weird Harsh shadow on the left which doesn't seem big enough based on where the light source is and the way the light falls off on the left of the box

This is awesome. I come home from school and there are more rumors of a Cinema Display refresh and new Mac mini!
Woot! That looks amazing. Although, it may be photoshopped.

I just got my Macbook aluminum set up for my tv to do this.

But the firewire would be nice and I do have a mac mini sized "mini pal" waiting for the next gen.

Whoa I was worried cause I did not see a firewire port....... then I saw the 800 port :D awesome!

Now does this have Nvidia graphics? or crappy intel graphics?

I don't know about the one in the picture, but since 10.5.6 had the NVidia kexts I suppose we'll see one one day..

Can't they PLEASE make the mini just a little taller so it can have a real hard drive?

I'd totally buy a Mini with a 7,200 rpm 1 TB hard drive. But what's the point of buying a small computer if you have to hook external hard drives up to it? I'd much rather have it be an inch or two taller than do that.

Firewire(800) on a Mac-mini but not on a MacBook? That doesn't make sense.

This does look like the real deal! Having Firewire on Macbooks would be more likely to cannibalize MacBook Pro sales. This would not be the case for the Mini.

I also wanted an HDMI port.

I wonder how many of us are really just looking for a beefy Apple iTV?

Wish they could remove the optical drive

I'd love it if you could get a really small mini - one without the optical drive. I hardly use mine, and I'd rather have a flatter mini...and use the now-ubiquitous cd/dvd sharing.

But why would it have two different kinds of display connections? It would make more sense to have two Mini-DisplayPorts and sell an adaptor.

Also, the image could have been easily photoshoped. All you'd have to do is take a photo of the current Mac Mini, remove the Firewire 400 and DVI ports and replace them with Firewire 800, Mini-DVI, Mini-DisplayPort, and add a USB port. Everything else looks the same.

Interesting. Looks legit, but I was half-expecting/hoping to see MagSafe for power, which would make it an awesomely elegant desktop to go with the LED 24" display.

So I guess reports of Firewire's demise were greatly exaggerated.

If the picture is real, there doesn't seem to be a physical redesign in size, shape or color. Which kind of makes you wonder what is taking them so long to release it.

I'm guessing the configuration will be based on the White MacBook. Namely 2GHz Core 2 Duo on a 1066MHz FSB, with the 9400M but using 2GB DDR2 667 memory instead of DDR3. Although the 2GHz P7350 has actually been replaced with the 2.13GHz P7450 so maybe Apple will be nice enough to use that instead, but I doubt it seeing they stuck with the 2GHz P7350 for the White MacBook.

There could still be a black option for the plastic parts, like for the old macbooks, but you'd have to pay 300$ more and you'd also gain an extra led on the back...for the USB ports, I suppose, and there would be no Firewire:eek:
It better not! This is what I am looking forward to it having:

-2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
-2GB of Memory
-160GB Hard Drive

I think this will probably be the low level Mac Mini at the same price, $599.
it would kill the white macbook sales, hell even the aluminum one's..I doubt your specs would correspond to a low level.

One's a desktop, the other is a laptop. Go figure.

Also, 5 USB ports? The iMac only has 3.

Current Mini has 4 USB ports...and they won't all be running off independent buses so it'd be like having a USB hub anyway.

Why would they have HDMI on the mini? It doesn't make any sense to me...

but either way, I'm hoping for a refresh soon

Macworld '10?

The original leaker also claimed the following specs:

- Intel Core 2 Duo
- 2GHz
- 3MB L2 cache
- 2GB RAM DDR III, 1066MHz
- Super Drive is SATA

I would have to disagree with only having 2.0GHz.

The cheapest model of the current iMac has a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, and they are getting ready to upgrade it. The current Mac Mini has a 2.0GHz processor. Why would Apple use the same processor speed after this long period of time that the Mac Mini hasn't been upgraded.

The amount of Memory though is perfect. And I'm glad to see that it will probably have DDR3 instead of DDR2.

My 18 month old MacBook Pro with those specs was over $2500...

Specs seem reasonable and if it turns out to be true, they wouldn't be surprising in any way. It does seem that the case is the same, which is a tad disappointing, but I guess an update is better than none. It isn't the most credible of rumors, but the picture looks real enough.
