Sorry, but I can't get excited about another desktop that's still stuck with laptop parts. What use are a good selection of ports if the machine is still underpowered and overpriced?

Why is there no HDMI port?

Obviously no comment on the reality of the picture, but the picture shows a device that appears to have both mini dvi and mini displayport. As far as I'm aware there's nothing HDMI can do that displayport can't, though correct me if I'm wrong.

Don't you all remember the PowerMacs with 1 DVI port and 1 ADC port? They could've done 2 DVI and included an adaptor, but they figured the majority of users weren't using dual-monitors, but just wanted a choice to match their 1 monitor.

They did it before, I totally believe that part about 2 different monitor connections here.

As far as I'm aware there's nothing HDMI can do that displayport can't, though correct me if I'm wrong.

HDMI has all sorts of sticky DRM issues that Displayport doesn't. So, there's that... :)

Sound.

the iMac kind of falls in that category as well, it's a better balanced product though.

this looks sweet! i wonder if they will throw in a beefed up cpu option on this bad boy! it's nice to see 5 usb ports, you can never have too many of those. i am really impressed to see the firewire 800 port, this is a great step up. the hard drive and optical drive should both be sata which should speed up performance a bit. with the mini displayport we can expect the upgraded nvidia cpu/chipset which is also a huge performance upgrade from the lame GMA 950. last speculation topic is i wonder if it is possible to simulatenously use the two display ports with two monitors. dual monitor mac mini would be awesome! throw in a quad-core cpu and were set. a dedicated gpu would be a plus too if that can be a CTO option. great photo, looking forward to the new mini!

It better not! This is what I am looking forward to it having:

-2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
-2GB of Memory
-160GB Hard Drive

I think this will probably be the low level Mac Mini at the same price, $599.

We wish! Sorry, I think there's no chance the low-end processor's going to be that fast. The RAM and HD are more likely, though it's hard to go too low when guessing a low-end Apple config.

Anyway, I say "real" on this one.

It looks smaller than the current mini to me in the pics, although maybe it's just that there are so many ports on that thing.

that's the exact reason I think it's a fake

Now I am actually starting to agree that its a fake. Here's why:

1) If the person with the Mac Mini went to the trouble to take one picture, why wouldn't he/she go ahead and take a bunch of pictures to show us what its like? Of course there is a possibility that this could have been a quick picture from a manufacturer in China.
2) The last thing that Apple would put on the Mac Mini is 5 USB ports
3) People these days are really getting good with Photoshop and just want their picture on all of the front pages of big websites.

Plus HDMI is still an evolving standard...

The person who posted it admitted it's a prototype and he has no knowledge about if it's the final version or just a test.

So the 5 USB ports could mean nothing. ALL of it could mean nothing and the Mini will be different, even if this photo is real.

I think the picture is a real photo...what it's a photo OF I can't say. Prototype? Home-made mash-up? Dunno, but I don't think it's Photoshopped.

Not familiar with leaked photos are you? Not saying if this is real or a fake, but the Unibody MacBook Pro was leaked in a similar manner, as was the fat iPod Nano etc.

The shadow inside the mini-displayport looks quite suspicious to me.

Will you guys please shut up and let me delude myself in peace? ;)
