lol some comments seem to think they can tell the form factor just from this little picture, smh.

Well, you can. That's an iPhone 4 style front panel. The iPhone 5 model that we saw cases for (which is essentially an iPad 2 mini) would have an entirely different front panel -- one without a plastic edge.

Conspiracy theory:

The next iPhone will be a 4S design.
The next iPod Touch will be called iPad Nano, have optional 3G, and fit in the Casemate cases.

Edited: Did anyone notice the proximity sensor window in that frontpanel, incidentally? That's the dotted window from early leaked white iPhone 4, and the early thirdparty replacement white panels. It's not the open window from the *actual* white iPhone 4.

Either they went back to their preferred window after solving the problem (yeah, right. They tried that for 9 months before giving up), or this is a really weird assembly.

Hmm, I overlayed the outline of the iPhone 4 over this image. Looks like the screen is higher and wider...

I'm not sure this is the best picture to approximate size from, since there is no way to truly tell the scale from the components cropped and shown. But, it's fun to try.

I am just happy to see some pictures not just thoughts about what it could be.

Even if there is an iPhone 4s or iPhone 4 with improvements I will buy it. Everyone will. Then next year I'll buy the next one.

Interesting how smaller the bezel is, especially at the top.

Took me a minute to see what was going on here, but certainly does make a good circumstantial case for a bigger screen. +1 on this all day long.

LOL, fixed 'god.'

Not everyone. I have spent hours arguing with people about how awesome the iPhone is. I've bought every iPhone that has existed.

I will not buy an iPhone 4S. I'm probably going to take a look at the Galaxy S2, or just keep the 4 (as angry as that will make me). There's just nothing in a 4S that's going to push me to buy. The 4 is fast enough, and I don't use this thing for photographs, so it'd be a waste of money to buy something so stupidly upgraded.

I, and thousands of others, won't buy unless it's a redesigned iPhone 5.

I agree, if the iPhone 4S had the same initial design as the iPhone 4, a new A5 Chip, 8MP Camera, larger screen and bigger battery, I would be happy.

don't forget a 'better' antenna, and updated radio components. The speed of the iPhone is almost always limited by it's WiFi/3G connection. If you could squeeze better reception/less interference/10-20% more throughput, it would seem like a much faster device.

Of course, being able to make calls when you hit 'Call' would be a nice thing too;-).

a 4S that would allow either GSM-3G/CDMA-3G/LTE would be a wet dream....I just spent a week in NYC, and I felt the AT&T Pain, every day at 4:30-6:30pm in midtown.

My dream still is that Apple will disintermediate the carriers and start selling pre-paids on a month to month basis (like iPads) with a brokering site on iCloud.

If they only release a iPhone 4 with a better camera, bigger battery and an A5 processor Apple is going to get stomped. This isn't the tablet game where they have it completely cornered. Even then the iPad 2 provided something the first didn't even have (cameras and Facetime) and had a redesign. It wasn't a huge upgrade but it was plenty for that market.

My guess is iPhone 4S for 100 and iPhone 5 with a larger screen and new tapered design or whatever for 200 (prices after subsidized by carrier obviously)

I understand that there will be some people who won't.
By "everyone" it means majority. It is impossible for "everyone" to buy it.
I don't think the redesign is the major reason to buy it. I like this design I just like new things. When I saw these artist renderings of the iPhone 5 I wanted it. I have also owned every iPhone and I have seen the benefits they have added to each new phone. They don't make a new phone without making positive changes.
Yes the iPhone 4 had the antenna issue but it still had positive changes too.

if we assume this is the secondary 'iPhone 4S' as some call it, is it a possibility that apple have given it an underclocked A5 CPU? because:
.......1.) A5 is (in the mind) better than A4 therefore it can be called a '4S' like for speed but without eating into the 'iPhone 5' niche, whilst being an upgrade in the mind of the un-technological masses so as to convince them that they aren't just getting a 'last gen model',
and:
.......2.) the A5 chip is (currently) un-jailbreakable and we all know apple doesn't really like jailbreakers, so this would basically bring an end to jailbreaking, for both 'iphone 5' and 'iphone 4S' owners, making apple and networks (mainly americas) happy.

all this is purely hypothetical I may add, but I think it sort of makes sense.

The front looks as if it has the proximity sensor from the 'old' white iphone 4, i.e. before the proximity sensor window was redesigned due to having some problems. I dont think this is real

Stomped? Really? You're probably one of the people who said if they don't release a new iPhone in June like they normally do, they will get stomped by Android. The iPhone 4 is 16 months old and it's still the best selling phone on AT&T and probably the top 1 or 2 selling phone on Verizon. I don't buy this doom and gloom outlook on Apple's phone business if they don't introduce a radically different phone next month. Don't get me wrong, I would love an iPhone 5 with a design similar to the leaked cases instead of a spec bumped iPhone 3GS, but it would hardly be the end of Apple if they didn't.

"Stupidly upgraded"? Question, did you buy both the 3G and the 3GS?

The vast majority of people around the world that rely on carrier subsidies (let alone the ones that actually pay directly) are on a 2 year or more upgrade cycle. Why would they bring out a completely new case design every year?

Also: Really? A new case design is the one thing that can push you into an early upgrade? Funny, I used to think the naysayers were wrong about Apple fanboys only being in it for the looks & social status.

That is a bigger screen right there. No doubt about it. These are parts for the iPhone 5, not a 4s.

I was wondering why the article didn't point that out, the bezel is noticibly smaller on top than it is on the 4, nice work.

Oh, almost forgot this!

Am I the only one who thinks we will see only one new iPhone - the iPhone 5 (not 4s) and one new iPod Touch (possibly with an ear speaker for VOIP over Wi-Fi) ?? I just don't see Apple releasing two new phones and causing more confusion in the product line. If anything they'll keep making the iPhone 4 and it will be the $99 (or possibly $49) phone with 8GB.

They just need to make the screen bigger. That is my ONLY gripe about the iphone. Running on 4 years with the same screen is getting a little old now.

Err so every two years or so the screen should change size? So in '07 it should be 3.5", 2009 it should be 4", then 2011 it should be 4.5"?

Apple is bringing back the proximity sensor grill on the white iPhone? I hope so, because it looks a lot nicer than the giant black blob.

Hm. Could well be the 4S will have the lower-yield chips from the A5 line... chips that couldn't hit high enough clocks to be put in the iPhone 5. Or heck... maybe they're even crippled 1-core ICs (for the same reason... poor yields/one faulty core)

A new case design would most likely bring features some (including myself) consider extremely important, namely, a BIGGER SCREEN. People dont necessarily want a new design cause it looks cool or different, or for the "social status" of it, there is the large issue of a glass back that many people are completely turned off by.

Next time letting the rage settle before you try and undercut someones completely rational opinion.

ummmm no... this "overlay" is right-side up while the device shown in the photos clearly is the underside of the screen... so if you match up the camera hole (which is here on the right), this overlay image is much smaller... most likely making this the supposed 4S
