What's the voltage on the iPad 2? Does the A5 need more juice? Will the increased voltage create more heat? Guess all the "handwarmer" app creaters will like this.

I am just happy to see some pictures not just thoughts about what it could be.

Even if there is an iPhone 4s or iPhone 4 with improvements I will buy it. Everyone will. Then next year I'll buy the next one.

We <3 :apple:

I'm done with that. If this doesn't have a bigger screen then I'm not buying it. My 4 is doing me just fine.

Hmm, I overlayed the outline of the iPhone 4 over this image. Looks like the screen is higher and wider:

Image

Interesting how smaller the bezel is, especially at the top.

What is your point of reference for this overlay .. none of the outline matches anything useful.
Also, you are looking at the back of the screen making it really impossible to judge the screen size, since the screen will be bigger from the back (including lighsources, cables, connectors etc.).

Well then, I’m in the camp that predicts no iPhone “5” (new shape) until next year, although possibly early. The iPhone 3G shape lasted 2 years as the top model, and as a lower model is still the second-best-selling smartphone today!

There’s just not enough evidence of this new shape coming soon, and putting an A5 in the the cheap model (if that’s that the 4 becomes) makes little sense to me.

Doesn’t mean the iPhone “4S” (or whatever, in the current shape) won’t be awesome, beyond even how great the 4 already is!

"Stupidly upgraded"? Question, did you buy both the 3G and the 3GS?

The vast majority of people around the world that rely on carrier subsidies (let alone the ones that actually pay directly) are on a 2 year or more upgrade cycle. Why would they bring out a completely new case design every year?

Also: Really? A new case design is the one thing that can push you into an early upgrade? Funny, I used to think the naysayers were wrong about Apple fanboys only being in it for the looks & social status.

I have absolutely no idea why people use the 3G - 3GS example to compare this situation to. The 3G was the AIDS of iPhones. It was pretty much a redesigned original iPhone. If Hitler was alive, and I was his captor and he wanted to make a phone call, I wouldn't even allow HIM to use that piece of garbage.

The 3GS was better in literally EVERY WAY, and it needed to be. It was finally fast, it had voice control features, better battery life, more oil resistant screen, better camera, compass (which changed the way that maps worked, which was awesome), etc...so many awesome upgrades.

If the 4S is all we're getting, we are getting an upgraded processor and a better camera. The problem is that at this point, neither of those things matter anymore. The camera on the 4 is perfect. It takes awesome shots, and the resolution isn't so high that every shot takes up half of the memory in the phone. The speed can EASILY handle iOS5...the 3GS can even handle iOS5 perfectly well.

That is why a 4S is a horrible idea. It offers absolutely nothing to people using the iPhone 4 (who at this point are DEFINITELY available for an EARLY UPGRADE at least, and a lot are, like me, available for a FULL UPGRADE), which means that anybody with a version of the iPhone before the 4, really doesn't have any reason to upgrade to anything but the 4.

It IS stupid for Apple to do a 4S. If they do, like me, thousands of customers will tell Apple to smoke them and Apple will lose out on millions of dollars in revenue.

I think one thing that gets lost in all of this hype/rumors is the fact that iOS 5 is coming out soon. Heck Apple even said it themselves this summer that it's all about the software. I personally feel like I'll have a new iPhone even if I keep the 4....

With that said, I certainly understand the excitement over a possible redesign. Just don't forget about the software!!

My guess is that the iPhone 4S or whatever name will be exactly the same as iPhone 4, and the iPhone 5 WON'T have a bezel. All the front will be the screen, do you guys remember those patents where Apple could hide stuff behind the screen. Well, I think that's what we will get on iPhone 5...

I have a very hard time believing this photo is real. It's been stated numerous times that the A5 is blurry and doesn't look quite right.

BUT...notice that the supposed front assembly has the old proximity sensor style. I highly doubt Apple would be testing the iPhone 4s/5 with old or even possibly fake/low-end parts.

10mAh

I just laid down what I heard. I am not saying my information is completely accurate. What he mentioned was. The battery capacity will be increased by 10mAh. So that is not such a big change.. that might be why we coudnt' tell the difference in batteries fromt he leaked pictures of N94.

What I wrote down is just a list of major changes, not ALL changes. but no bigger screen for sure.

That's what i said..

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_5 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8L1 Safari/6533.18.5)

Look at the hole for the sensors. That looks a lot like the silver 'grate' from the original White iPhone 4 design that was scrapped in favour of the black strip above the ear piece.

So I'm sorry, but they are either returning to their original design which is doubtful, or this is just one of the original screens linked up to loose components from the phone with a not so elaborate faked A5 processor.

This.

The 3GS made sense because the 3G was slow and had a pretty bad camera that couldn't take videos.

Apple didn't feel the urge to offer something completely new as the competition was still struggling to compete the iPhone at that time.

It's not the case anymore. Android phones sell more. Apple needs to do something other than upgrading to a dual-core processor and 8MP/1080p camera. Good Android phones already have those.

The 3GS also came a year after the 3G, not a year and a half. If this is the new cycle, would that mean we are keeping the iPhone 4 design for 3 years? Otherwise, 2.5 years is still pretty long when competitors come up with new phones every month.

Since Apple has a slow release cycle, they can't release something "as good" as the current competition. They have to blow it out of the water and make them struggle to offer something as good until the sixth iPhone comes out.

If a "iPhone 4S" is all we get, they may have lost the smartphone war. But I doubt it. Apple rarely disappoints.

As others have pointed out, what makes hard to believe an iPhone 4S + iPhone 5 announcement is that the A5 in the iPhone 4S would make it more expensive to produce. If the goal was to make a cheaper iPhone to target a different market, wouldn't they want to use cheaper parts? The A4 is still plenty fast enough, and they could even cut costs by using the iPod touch 4's non-IPS panel and lower-resolution camera. That would make more sense if they want to offer a cheap phone.

This does not seems he case... higher volts mean lower amps.
E = U*Q, so the Energy of the fully charged battery is the product of voltage and charge. So, if the voltage really is higher, then the battery is bigger.
(Old Battery: 3.7V * 1420mAh = 5.254Wh; New Battery: 4.2V * 1430mAh = 6.006Wh)

If I was Cook or Jobs or whoever makes the big decisions over there at Apple, I'd make a new iPhone 4 that works on all carriers (or at least both Verizon and ATT). I'd keep the same A4 and camera in it, and I'd sell that as the cheaper phone.

Then I'd release a newly designed iPhone 5. It just makes sense.

I'm willing to bet that the new battery is not 4.2 volts nominal, so it'll be ~5.3Wh

They just need to make the screen bigger. That is my ONLY gripe about the iphone. Running on 4 years with the same screen is getting a little old now.

The current screen is only one year old. If you think they are the same screen just because the dimensions are the same, then I have a CRT HDTV to sell you.

Nice detective work.

This does not seems he case... higher volts mean lower amps.

If that were the case, then then the mAh rating staying constant would indicate longer battery life. However, the required current doesn't really change with voltage, which is why undervolting reaps benefits on chips. Lower voltage with same current = lower power.

Anyone see these yet?

All I see is an unholy floating shoe with the foot almost completely out of it.

LiPo batteries are 3.7 nominal and 4.2 fully charged. I'm guessing the battery pictured is just listing the max charge voltage for some reason.

Could be that they changed suppliers or some other innocuous reason.

no that can't be it, NOBODY on the planet would print the charge voltage on a battery.
They either don't use LiPos (which I highly doubt) or something else is wrong!
If they miraculously managed to pull this off (again, my Physics Ph.D. says: not possible), this would result in a 13.5% increase in battery capacity with the samd 1430mAh capacity.

I have absolutely no idea why people use the 3G

Because they wanted an iPhone, and wanted 3G speeds. Or they just wanted an iPhone at the time the iPhone 3G came out.

The 3G was the AIDS of iPhones.

I believe this is the worst analogy I've heard in the last ten years...

If Hitler was alive, and I was his captor and he wanted to make a phone call, I wouldn't even allow HIM to use that piece of garbage.

Hitler? Really?

That is why a 4S is a horrible idea. It offers absolutely nothing to people using the iPhone 4 (who at this point are DEFINITELY available for an EARLY UPGRADE at least, and a lot are, like me, available for a FULL UPGRADE)

It isn't targeted at iPhone 4 users. Honestly, if you have an iPhone 4, no, you don't have the absolute latest and most powerful phone... but it's fine. It does what it's supposed to, it does more than it needs to. 10 years ago the best you could hope to do on a phone was make a call and maybe play a game of Snake. Do you really need to be able to download questionable content at 4G speeds because you've been stuck with an iPhone 4 for the last year?

It IS stupid for Apple to do a 4S. If they do, like me, thousands of customers will tell Apple to smoke them and Apple will lose out on millions of dollars in revenue.

Well if it's only in the single-digit thousands, then it would actually only be in the very low hundreds of thousands of dollars in revenue. But again, it's not targeted at people who want a new phone every four days... it's an economy model, for normal people who just want a smart phone.

If that were the case, then then the mAh rating staying constant would indicate longer battery life. However, the required current doesn't really change with voltage, which is why undervolting reaps benefits on chips. Lower voltage with same current = lower power.

We still don't know this because we don't know how much voltage is being consumed. We also don't know how much power the chipset actually pulls.

We may use less power, but it still stands that the mAh has not increased.
