Don't assume that just because I have a different opinion that I am finger wagging. And if I am, I'm only finger wagging because I find all of the endless complaining that people do here these days tiresome....

It wasn't your opposing opinion that led me to the finger wagging but this in your original response to my post:

The "old timers" need to learn to embrace the time they are living in rather than romanticizing the past in my opinion.

Feels like finger wagging to me telling people who disagree with you to get up with the times.

I'm up on the times -- early adopter and all. But what I tire of is people who are willing to cheer on "less" in what should be a full featured product, and is a premium priced one, because it's new and shiny.

Yes, people complain.... because they are getting significantly less for their money and more inconvenience and why? Because Apple wants an even thinner machine than its already thin machine? If there was a practical reason I think people would be more accepting.

Can you make a substantive argument why a $2K+ laptop shouldn't offer a wider variety of ports than one 50-25% less expensive? From your last post you can't except that Apple knows best. But of course Apple wants to gut the ports... then buyers have to buy a dongle or two. Cha-Ching. But that doesn't make it a better user experience, which is what Apple still claims is one of its missions.

And if you find the complaining tiresome why do you subject yourself to it?

The D810 is also CF mainly.

As you said Canon is also CF on pro bodies.

That's pretty much all of the pro market.

Also, nobody is putting SD readers on comparable products, like the SurfaceBook, why should Apple bother with it? Modern cameras have WiFi anyways, even consumer cameras.

The D810 is a CF / SD combo.... Besides the Eos-1D X Mark II (which is a very niche seller) Canon Pro bodies are CF / SD combo. Every shooter I know uses the SD slot.

D750 / D610 are SD only now....

Dell XPS still has SD card slots .

Ha, No one uses Wifi to dump photos, lets be real.

Since when does the surface book compete with rMBP?

Looks amazing but I think I'll wait for the second iteration of this product before I jump on board. Standard rule for me and all things  hardware. What's the processor generation called we're most likely to see after these Skylake MBP's?

Doesn't that really sum up all of Apple products these days. I think there are a lot of us "old timers" here who were serial updaters or jealous when it wasn't the right time for us. Everything I see now is just one big pile of meh. I detest Windows, so not going there, but I feel like one -- update only when the machine breaks or is unusable. Apple sans Jobs has sucked all the joy out of its products.

This is how I feel. Everything they've released recently has been cutting edge in some ways yet so obviously flawed in others. It's been quite a while since they released something that I wanted - even though I didn't need it - just because they got everything so right.

The placement of the 2 USB-C ports on the left is off from the ports on the right. Maybe (hopefully) the MagSafe port wasn't added when the picture was taken?

If it is a 13" in the photo, or the smaller of the two "pro" sizes (assuming Apple doesn't just go with a single 14" size for the pro moving forward, which I doubt,) then a bigger one will most likely have more ports. What those extra ports would be is anybody's guess right now, but whatever the case may be, it's way too early to get all up in arms about "just 4 ports".

Not if it purports to be part of the 'Pro' line. To strip the small macbook pro of so much that it's larger brother has would make calling it the 13 inch 'Pro' a joke.

why is everybody complaining about the lack of MagSafe on this computer? Isn't it obvious this is going to be the first mac with wireless charging???

Kaby Lake. I will most likely do the same.

You just made a new best friend: ME. Excellent post sir. Said what I've been feeling for a long time but said so much more eloquently that I ever have.

Thank you.

I was hesitant on the OLED strip but I think it has a lot of possibility.

I would love it if it could house the dock and then a few customizable function keys to allow for maximum screen real estate use.

At least we still have a 3.5mm headphone jack!

I'm honestly waiting for Apple to release an ARM based "iBook" with dual screens, the bottom one being a touch screen with pen support.

MagSafe never really served much function. I never had the cord for any of my devices yanked that way.

Oh man... MagSafe has saved my MBA from crashing to the floor at least a dozen times since I bought it in 2012. You know, pulling out from your chair and dragging the cord somehow, etc. I'm telling you, my MBA would have been dead years ago if it hadnt been for the MagSafe.

For me, one of the top-3 best features of any Apple laptop. It will be GREATLY missed. I dont understand why Apple would get rid of such a beloved feature.

Yeah, that's why I'm kind of thinking too. Here is to hope indeed.

I don't want to be melodramatic, it's just a computer but it's also what I use for my livelihood so I think I can say it's a big deal to me what direction Apple takes these machines. I'm a little saddened by this leak if it's true. I don't need gimmicks I need portable computing power.

Can someone explain what this touch panel is about please? Why is it going to be useful? Who even uses function keys that often and why would it be better if they're in a touch panel?...
Easy. Touch interface means it can change the keys to match the applications. And I use the function keys very often. Using the key is much faster than point the cursor and click any day.

oh that's great. So, since you don't see a need for a feature that TONS of people have loved .. then it must be worthless.

An OLED touch panel??? Oh now if this and the Amazon Echo competitor are true, Apple is SERIOUSLY and more importantly FINALLY taking a stab at the very heart of their industry. These are exciting times, y'all!

Which would hopefully indicate these machines will be released sooner rather than later. Apple don't pre announce hardware that will be released months ahead ( they've only done so for origin iPhone, AppleTV and Mac Pro ).
Yeah plus assuming that odd key is actually a combined TouchID/Power button (which makes a great deal of sense) there's no way they wouldn't introduce it at WWDC and open up development.

What happen to Thunderbolt and SD card slots? Thank goodness I got my Early 2015 MBP 13 before this. Would dare not be the guinea pig for this Rev A. Exciting though. The overall thickness shows its not a dramatic overall, but might be obviously lighter than its already is.
