Considering we are in 2016 and Apple has always been keen to adopt new standards, I'm happy with 4 USB-C ports and the headphone jack. Losing the SD card slot is annoying as it's handy for convenience, but for me personally I only use it about a dozen times a year. An adapter to give me extra functionality (SD slot, full size USB etc) is acceptable, but only if its included in the box! As USB-C is still in it's infancy, I think it would be outrageous for Apple to charge $79 or whatever for something that should be included as standard.

Asus are bundling an adapter with their new ZenBook 3, so there's no reason why Apple can't do the same.

Why should I and the rest of us who don't need an adapter have to pay for it to be bundled into the package?
Why produce an SD slot reader for every laptop sold when only a small number will want one?
It makes no economic, nor sustainable sense...if YOU need it, then YOU buy it.
I wouldn't expect you to fork out for my USBC to Firewire adapter i will need for my audio interface...

Luckily we will see this in a reduced price of the new MBP, right? o_O

The adapters cost about $3 to produce, therefore I would personally expect to see an adapter included with my $1500-$3000 notebook (price depending on configuration obviously). We all know that it's an almost certainty that Apple won't include any sort of adapter, so people like you can be delighted that $3 worth of materials didn't go to waste.

Firewire has never been a mass market standard so I think it's obvious that you should have to go and buy Firewire peripherals if you need them as you are in the extreme minority of users.

Indeed, the price would likely go up $50 if everyone got a "free" dongle.

Disagree. I'd say the SD card slot is used by nearly everyone with a digital camera. I agree that the need for the SD card slot is declining as I said in one of my earlier posts. I just think it would be 'decent' of Apple to throw in an adapter that includes SD/HDMI/1 x full size USB 3 instead of mugging people for $79 just to get an official one.

How about you buy the SD adapter you need and I buy the the Firewire 800 adapter i need from eBay for like $4.99? Surely thats better targeted than sending out masses of adapters that people won't use or need...

I don't need HDMI or SD and i already have a USBC to USB connector. It was $1.99 on eBay.

Agreed that Apple's price is completely taking the piss...

If Apple made wireless transferring of data easier, I'd understand the lack of SD card/HDMI etc. But as they can't even get their own Air Drop to work correctly, I'm surprised they're continuing this plan of cutting wires.

someone should stop cook and ive to thin to increase saving by margin profits,i mean less to build, less to pay and more and more thin but seriously magsafe, hdmi and sd card would save a lot of wires, instead to have to put a dock beside..its kinda absurd, they're thinning our patience with that fear of sharing (mp3,app and so on),just as with the boring 6,6s and 6se ( not 7)iphone design and that protuding camera and what with macbook air,if they would put thunderbolt3 within it no way i'd buy a pro,no quad core?i would survive,so they will cut it,ending it ,without an sd card, mag safe and so on basically we have a macbook...,maybe this time i will go for a refurbished 2015 air,i would save time ( waiting for apple..cookings) and money

Not all cameras are wireless capable which is the problem. Some newer cameras now support wireless transfer but most cameras out there don't.

Which adapter should they include? One with HDMI and USB or one with DisplayPort and USB or maybe one with FireWire and VGA? Perhaps a big one with all of those plus Ethernet and SD? This is the beauty of the USB-C port; it offers enough bandwidth to serve any purpose one might need of the port so it simplifies computer design and allows the user to customize it to their specific need, and doesn't force anyone to carry around ports that are useless to them.

I understand this is a sea change in how people think about their computer peripherals. If you truly feel that way, I'd buy the current model MBP while you can and you'll have 5 years or so before you have to adapt. But this new design is going to lead the computer world into the future, the same way Apple has done for 20 some years now.

Hope the new cameras (Sony) will get WiFi(ac) soon, for faster transfer (especially for videos and RAWs) the sd card is THE standard right now.

DongleGate.
Seriously, with just 4 USB-C ports you can't do anything pro. 1 for power, 1 for external display (which I doubt FCPX will recognize as an A/V Output), 1 for connecting existing Thunderbolt peripherals leaves you with only one empty. Unless you want to connect an SD card reader. Disappointing :(

The OLED panel looks good though.

That's not how USB-C/Thunderbolt works. A single port will be able to perform ALL of those connections. Most people are going to find that they suddenly gain a bunch of convenience with single-connection docking and never actually use the other 3 ports (just like those of us with the current retina MacBook have long ago realized).

We're celebrating when, aside from thinness, it is a REDUCTION in feature-set? Is thinness really so important to you people that you are willing to sacrifice the use of your fourth data port (because there is no MagSafe 2 on here) and the SD card slot?! It's a Pro notebook; the damn thing is supposed to have SOME heft (because it isn't a MacBook Air or a retina MacBook; you're supposed to be able to, y'know, do more than check e-mail, work on things in Microsoft Office, and fart around on Facebook and YouTube). If the weight of the current crop of MacBook Pros are too much for you all to carry, the solution is that you should go to the gym and lift weights, not have Apple further starve the poor MacBook Pro to the point where it's just another iPad Pro.

Where is the reduction in feature set? USB-C offers much more connectivity than the current devices and will radically simplify docking at a desk. If you must have legacy ports, buy a current MBP; it's designed based on the previous 5 years of technology. If you want a laptop for the next 5 years, this new one is for you.

This is amazing!! Is there any reason to think the older model won't still be available?

Moreover, any hits at a higher res screen? Or perhaps laminated like the iPad Pro 9.7?

No, I do fully agree with you. Earlier in the thread I said I was happy for Apple to adopt USB-C ports for everything. I just think as that USB-C is in its infancy it would be 'decent' of Apple to include an adapter that at least covers users for SD/1 x USB 3/HDMI. This adapter covers the bases for a large proportion of users.

However, as I also said a few times in the thread it's an almost certainty that Apple will not include any sort of adapter with the MacBook Pro. Which we can all live with at the end of the day...

i don't think thunderbolt 3 is gonna happen

I get the removal of USB-A and replacing with USB-C... totally get it. What I can't quite get my head around is why Apple would remove the SD card slot from a device which has a long tradition of being used by photographers, musicians and videographers. I'm not looking forward to carting around a bag of adapters.

Awesome.

The thinness looks great.

I wonder if the 15 will have a magsafe like you imagine here?

Would certainly free up those ports for other functions.

4 ports imo would be too few for the 15, including power.

How reliable are these leaks in reality? Macbook's hardly ever leak. The last one to do so was the 12" Macbook that was announced a month later (at the March event last year) I'm hoping these are shown off at WWDC tho.
The OLED touch panel sounds very interesting, I'm sure if Apple are putting it on the Macbook Pro's that it will serve a purpose, it could be very useful for things like Final Cut, Photoshop, the dock at the bottom of the screen. Shortcuts in general and so on. I also think that Apple may want to announce at WWDC IF they are planning on opening up the OLED touch panel for developers to update their apps.

We can bet that the new Macbook Pro's will be thinner, lighter and so on. It will be very interesting to see what Apple announce.
