Which adapter should they include? One with HDMI and USB or one with DisplayPort and USB or maybe one with FireWire and VGA? Perhaps a big one with all of those plus Ethernet and SD? This is the beauty of the USB-C port; it offers enough bandwidth to serve any purpose one might need of the port so it simplifies computer design and allows the user to customize it to their specific need, and doesn't force anyone to carry around ports that are useless to them.

I understand this is a sea change in how people think about their computer peripherals. If you truly feel that way, I'd buy the current model MBP while you can and you'll have 5 years or so before you have to adapt. But this new design is going to lead the computer world into the future, the same way Apple has done for 20 some years now.
A single 3-in-1 adapter. USB-C to USB-A, DisplayPort and HDMI.

How reliable are these leaks in reality? Macbook's hardly ever leak. The last one to do so was the 12" Macbook that was announced a month later (at the March event last year) I'm hoping these are shown off at WWDC tho.
The OLED touch panel sounds very interesting, I'm sure if Apple are putting it on the Macbook Pro's that it will serve a purpose, it could be very useful for things like Final Cut, Photoshop, the dock at the bottom of the screen. Shortcuts in general and so on. I also think that Apple may want to announce at WWDC IF they are planning on opening up the OLED touch panel for developers to update their apps.

We can bet that the new Macbook Pro's will be thinner, lighter and so on. It will be very interesting to see what Apple announce.
MacBooks hardly get updated, MacBooks hardly leak. Circle of life.

The adapters cost about $3 to produce, therefore I would personally expect to see an adapter included with my $1500-$3000 notebook (price depending on configuration obviously). We all know that it's an almost certainty that Apple won't include any sort of adapter, so people like you can be delighted that $3 worth of materials didn't go to waste.

They might include basic adaptors with the Pro, they included a lightning adaptor with the Pencil (which even two Apple store employees didn't know about when I was last there)

Define a pro user? Lots of professional users can get by just fine with an internet connection. The ports to a lot of people are a waste of space.

Considering we are in 2016 and Apple has always been keen to adopt new standards, I'm happy with 4 USB-C ports and the headphone jack. Losing the SD card slot is annoying as it's handy for convenience, but for me personally I only use it about a dozen times a year. An adapter to give me extra functionality (SD slot, full size USB etc) is acceptable, but only if its included in the box! As USB-C is still in it's infancy, I think it would be outrageous for Apple to charge $79 or whatever for something that should be included as standard.

Asus are bundling an adapter with their new ZenBook 3, so there's no reason why Apple can't do the same.

Apple don't bundle any adapters with their products, never have, never will...

A whole lot of assumptions being made in here... starting with the fact that this may not be a final shipping mold.

The placement of the 2 USB-C ports on the left is off from the ports on the right. Maybe (hopefully) the MagSafe port wasn't added when the picture was taken?

They make the unibody design from a single piece of aluminum so i don't think is incomplete. However i wish they include the magsafe

Am I the only one who never uses the SD card slot? I prefer to connect my cameras via USB. If I take the SD card out, I forget I've removed it, then I take my camera somewhere and realize there's no card, and start crying... :( :p

It's just easier to use a USB cable (for me) :)

The speed on the cameras just suck. I always use card reader. And in the macs you can actually see half of the card outside the computer -imposible to forget the card-

i don't think thunderbolt 3 is gonna happen

I guarantee you this will have Thunderbolt 3. The layout of 2 ports per side completely fits with the availability of Thunderbolt daughter cards that have 2 ports maximum. All 4 will be Thunderbolt and all 4 will support charging. It's exactly how I expected Apple to do it, and it's why, as I've been saying for a year now, the rMB only has a single port. In that form factor there was no way to make multiple ports equal - and that would lead to a confusing situation that Apple wanted to avoid.

I get the removal of USB-A and replacing with USB-C... totally get it. What I can't quite get my head around is why Apple would remove the SD card slot from a device which has a long tradition of being used by photographers, musicians and videographers. I'm not looking forward to carting around a bag of adapters.

I'm a photographer. Never used the SD card slot (or an SD card). I could, however, really use a CF slot, and a Firewire and FW800 port. (I use the Lexar FW card reader) I accept though, that i'm a minority case, and my needs can't be accommodated.

I suspect Apple research has concluded that the SD slot is also very much a minority appeal feature, and thus should be better served by an external card reader.

I suspect it also won't be long before the fear of carrying around a bag of adapters goes the same way as the fear of having to carry around an external DVD drive.

Just launch it already. Space Grey please!

No, we won't have to get that adapter.

We'll only need an adapter if we want to attach it to a display using an HDMI cable.
Hey... And how are you plan to connect older USB 2 and 3.0 hard drives or Thunderbolt 1 and 2 drives?

They can innovate the new rMBP in whichever way they want, all I'm asking for is to please keep the MagSafe connector. It's one of the most ingenious little inventions ever. Probably safe to say that it saved my laptop from shattering a couple of times over the 3 years I have had my rMBP for.

why would OLED touch pannel be so much better?

i do get OLED screen, but why making pannel with touch screen? We all know that physical keyboard is always better than touch one in the case of longer typing and using.

Either replace the cable on those drives with one with a usb-c end, or just keep a usb-a to usb-c adapter stored permanently on the end of one of the cables. You have to bring the cable with you anyways, so it's really no big deal if a 10 gram adapter is added to the end of the cable.

I photoshopped a new Slate Retina Macbook Pro. Pretty Please Apple?
MZbkFI3.jpg
I forgot to mention a key design feature... The ports (and Apple Logo) on my sexy Slate rMBP must glow in the dark (like the Mac Pro) using the keyboard backlight settings.

Many people on here are complaining about no MagSafe, yet at the same time so many people have also complained over the years that MagSafe has existed that the connectors are unreliable and fail too easily. So which one do you want...do you want MagSafe and the issues there have been with those connectors, or do you want a different power solution that could potentially be more resilient? What's so great about MagSafe anyway that makes such a deal breaker for so many of you?
. . . .

Never had a failure with MacSafe connector. Have had the cord ripped off the laptop too many times to count. Its nice to know that you use your laptop at your desk, with no one else around. We use ours in many unconventional places and since we do more than tweet we usually need it plugged in. I do understand that most people can get 9 hours of battery life while tweeting. Neither my wife or I can get anywhere near the maximum battery life and have to have our laptops plugged in. This is, I believe, the definition of Pro laptop users; someone who uses their computer in some professional capacity and needs to be portable. If your not a Pro user, then fine, use a MacBook, but don't tell me your usage pattern means the MacBook Pro should be a toy instead of a real computer.

There is MagSafe for iPad...its called a Smart Connector, and thats what were going to see on this MacBook Pro. Mark my words.
They are different. The smart connector by itself does not have the magnet. The magnets are along the side of the iPad to grip the cover as well. And smart connector is not gonna pop out when it get yanked, isn't it? So it's for an entirely different purpose. If it does not have the MagSafe, then it's gonna be usb-c.
Back to my point. Try pulling your Magsafe and find the max force before it pops out. Then imagine a magnet as strong as that attached to the iPad. Do you think iPad will stay or fly? That's why i don't think MagSafe is viable anymore with today's laptop.

Another advantage to usb-c charging that those of us with the rMB have long ago realized is that you now have ONE charger to charge all your devices. I can travel with a single compact charger to cover my laptop, my phone and my iPad. Compared to carrying another Magsafe charger, that's an additional quarter pound or so of weight savings.

I don't know if I have to be excited yet or not... Essentially it will have 3 USB-C ports, since 1 of them will be used for charging. Then no TB (mini-DP) ports anymore and the HDMI has disappeared as well... GREAT!

So let me check in my current setup how this will work out:
- Magsafe replaced by 1 USB-C port
- TB (mini-DP) to external monitor replaced by 1 USB-C port (and new adapter required)
- TB to Ethernet replaced by 1 USB-C port (and new adapter required)

That leaves me 1 USB-C port left over to plug any devices, thumb drives etc, for which I need to get an adapter because all my stuff is USB-A compatible.

On top of that I need a USB-C to HDMI adapter since I often use my MBP on the road for presentations to connect it to projectors or TVs.

So I need to buy atleast 4 new adapters and all my "older" magsafe power bricks that I use (1 at home, 1 in the office and 1 for travel) have to be replaced as well or need magsafe to USB-C adapters.

I really don't know what to think of this move yet, its not like me and others are wishing for thinner MBP anyway. More powerful machines at similar or higher battery life, thinner display bezels is what most people are looking for and a more frequent update cycle would also be nice! The OLED touch display bar is a nice to have feature, but definitely not a must-have feature or a deal breaker for me!

I will see what they will present at the next keynote, but I will atleast wait one generation before making a decision on how to upgrade (buy the new MBP or go to back to Windows) since my machine is just half a year old.

I have just done a quick overlay of the current macbook pros and the leaked image is of a 13" macbook pro not a 15".

The size is pretty close, but if you make the keyboard the same size the body is possibly 5-8mm or so smaller in both width and length. It is possible that it might be a 12" or 12.5" size, but it is unlikely, probably still 13".

The trackpad is significantly bigger, probably 15-25mm wider and 5-8mm longer (closer to the keyboard).

We won't know much about the screen until it ships. My pure speculation is that they will skinny the bezels (ala dell xps) and have a 12" Macbook, 14" Macbook Pro and a 16" Macbook Pro. With the 14" and the 16" screen models roughly the same footprint as the current 13" and 15". They would be crazy if they don't, the screens on the XPS looks way better at this point because of the skinny bezels.

Oh look, it's this post again.

Macrumors can't report on nonexistent mac news. They take what they can get.

I don't think it was a dig at macrumors (the site). More like "can we do something about macs, instead of watches, watch bands, stores, etc." -- directed more at Apple than the rumor site.
