Samsung is blowing Apple away in overall innovation. The only thing Apple has left is their Ax single-core performance.

$1980 ...

If it was as thin as normal-ish phone when folded, ok. But it's not; it looks like two small phones folded over each other, and the front screen has enormous bezels. I applaud the innovation, but it has a long way to go until it's really a luxury $2,000 phone.

Comments are salty as hell. I can't even imagine how loved would be Apple for doing this. It's a breakthrough tech and it's just sad some of you can't accept that.
...and don't forget that when Apple does it there will be those who will claim that Samsung copied them.

It only counts when Apple does it. That's when the clock starts. Most recent example: the notch.

If Apple produced an iPhone that unfolded to an iPad at that price, I'd start saving my pennies for it.

Somewhere in the depths of Cupertino are the cries of Jony Ive. “Why can’t I do THAT!”

Affordable, sexy, powerful. Technology has been redefined today. This will change how I work as a professional video game streamer.

You can safely bet a ton of these will find their way to Cupertino. Tim will then probably tell the team to tear them apart and to get back to him when they figure out what “refinements” as well as the special names they can call those refinements to justify the 5 year wait before Apple releases it. Of course, at least a couple of them won’t be torn up and those will go to Tim’s special “what will hopefully save Apple’s bacon in the future” drawer so he can play with the latest “prototype” from one of Apple’s unofficial design studios anytime he feels like it.

$1,980. Wow. This is a super impressive device. 12 gigs of RAM and 512 GB of storage by default? Damn.

Now I’m curious what the carrier lease/financed monthly price will be..... or is this only going to be available as an unlocked device? Hmm.

Just one rather big problem...it runs Android hahaha

I’m sure that asking price will be discounted by 50% within a couple of months of release

I don’t think he’ll say that. More likely he’ll say to himself at his age and in his “partially retired” mindset is something like “less work for me”.

Being the first to market doesn't mean they were the innovators or the inventors. It just means first to market. Flexible displays have been in development for many years with multiple manufacturers.

That's not being salty, that's just the truth. But yes, there will always be ppl who hate Apple and people who hate not-Apple. It is what it is.

Yeah I'm not dropping a ton of money on a device with a finite amount of folds, which will eventually break. Especially considering you have to unfold and fold each time you want to put it in your pocket. Dumb idea imho...

Imagine crumbs of food getting into the hinge, this is not going to end well!

Crumb-gate, already calling it.
[doublepost=1550692733][/doublepost]Apple will call theirs the Origami Phone keeping in their Japanese love affair.

Caveat: I had no idea how popular large screen phones would become. However, I think Samsung is missing the mark if this is a large phone sized device that folds to a mini tablet size. At this stage, with the thickness penalty, I think it makes sense to do a large tablet that folds to have a more compact footprint for transport, or a phone with a small footprint that folds out to a full size phone screen. Making a big phone thick to have it double in size to a small tablet is an expensive tech demo in my opinion. In fairness, that may be all they expect this first device to be.
