and the little android guy icon permanently on to remind you you're being spied on by google the entire time lol

That's pretty funny. The company that wants mine your personal data for targeted advertising also wants to introduce privacy features in its mobile operating system. I wonder who they are trying to keep out?

Took me a while to realize this was Android. Even the colors used to signify what the app is doing is the same damn colors on iOS. That's some nice CTRL C, CTRL V Alphabet!
I'd say if they can't improve on it, it's in everyone's interest to mirror it. That consistency makes life easier for people across platforms to just understand how their phones work, when they switch from one to the other.

Uhhhhh, that's my photo they are using for the wallpaper. I never licensed or gave anyone permission to use this. I really hope this is just an internal document and that it doesn't make it into the final release.

This is amazing news! Tim Cook is not playing games when it comes to PRIVACY and SECURITY.
Complete Hyperbole! If Tim and Apple cared so much about security and privacy, they would release iMessage to Android and Windows.
Apple: "We care about your privacy and security...as long as your messaging other apple users and both of you continuing buying our products. When you message the other 85% of the world using Android, we don't care what happens to your private data and messages. Also we know you probably work at a place that uses windows and while you would love to iMessage from your computer securely and safely, this won't help us sell our failing Mac lineup so we won't bother releasing a windows client."

Oh man!!! Are you hosting the image somewhere? I'd say be flattered and get them lawyers ready! lol

oh it most definitely is. Google has been trying to mimic the iOS design style for quite a while now, since at least Android 9.
Are we counting the copy cat gestures taken directly from iPhone X lol

But it's not a bad thing really, the gestures Apple came up with feel effortless and natural

I guess Facebook is suing google now, AntiTrust! No one is letting us use customer data without permission anymore!

What makes you think Android users would switch to using an Apple product just because Apple releases it ? Most Android user could not care less about iMessage or they would be using an iPhone.

Yes he is. Siri is always listening and there is no indicator on the screen. All we have is Tim's word that nothing nefarious is being done. No green dot when facial recognition is done either. For all we know, the camera is always active.

Could care less who is copying who as long as the cloned features are of benefit to everyone.

Like the status bar on android isn’t cluttered enough as it is. „Take a screen shot“ notification icon like THANK YOU I know I just took a Screenshot.

don’t like subtle greyish tint of the UI. Looks very dated?
Seems to be based on the wallpaper you choose for theming purposes.

Camera is using the camera. Contacts is accessing your contacts. Microphone is using the microphone. Messaging is accessing your messages. Pretty obvious stuff really.

That's awesome. Glad to see android adopting this. Honestly were getting to a point where the only difference between ios and android, in terms of usability and UX, are how different settings are enabled and such. I feel like we are starting to plateu in terms of how much mobile operating systems look and feel.

I still prefer android for a couple small things like (like toggling quick toggles actually turns the connection off), having chromes engine, systemwide ad block, apps like bouncer and buzzkill. Still love the customization aspect.

And I jump to ios when I'm missing a more unified that is a lot more consistent throughout. And a handful of apps I love using on ios (and imessage of course).

They each have their benefits which is why I am always jumping between the two. But I'm happy to see that android is getting a lot more serious with privacy. Excited to see what else android 12 is going to bring.
