Aesthetics aside, this tech looks incredible, and the obvious next step in human/computer interaction.
Without knowing how close things are to looking like the images in the concept video, it is no different than lots of other science fiction interfaces. I think there are lots of cool ideas, but implementation is what matters.
I understand the derision from a design perspective (the glasses shown are too damn funny looking), but if what they showed works as advertised it has the potential to be significant.
The problem is the design is the part that is most likely exactly as it is shown in the video, while the images of what is seen are least likely to be “as they appear”. That is why there is so much criticism of the design.
This is not like, say, folding devices. This is killer.
Like all new tech, it is all about the quality and integration of the implementation, rather than the top line description. A foldable display that was reliable, aesthetically pleasing, thin, light and integrated well would be cool. Unfortunately, no one is producing that. Same goes for this. Nice visuals, what will really matter is the actual product implementation.
I'm excited that in the next few years this will be viable.
I feel the same way about personal drones. :)

A solution without a problem. I thought it was April 1st.
While I completely agree that these things look preposterous, if you think they are a solution without a problem then I think you are missing a lot of information augmented reality. The benefits of AR could be from "everyday" people all the way through technical spaces such as engineers or doctors. So many use cases and ways to make what people do easier and better and most certainly NOT a solution without a problem, almost more like a solution with infinite problems! IF implemented right AR could usher in the next "big" wave that we haven't seen since smartphones and the internet before that became mainstream.

The Samsung glasses will be a major engineering miracle....

If they have enough computing power and memory to handle all the spyware, malware and "telemetry" Samsung puts in all their devices and still be light enough to wear on your head, it will be a true marvel of technology.

Counter-factuals are hard in that it is unlikely that Apple would release a design as ugly as this, however, were this a leak of an Apple design I would say the same thing: “I hope the actual product does not look like that.”

No idea if anyone will hit the right product with their next round of AR/XR glasses, but I look forward to them trying.
"unlikely that Apple would release a design as ugly as this". I used to think the same way then the iphone 6, airpods/pro, iphone x notch happened. let's not get into charging 1st gen apple pencil and the magic mouse.

I agree. This looks almost too good to be true, but at the same time I like what they're aiming for.

I am encouraged by the fact that this is closer to reality than ever before.

Comments section ultra sad as usual. These people can only celebrate a new product when it comes from their favourite corporation lmao. How you fellas doing with that innovative AirPods max case

One stupid design doesn’t excuse another. They are both ridiculous.

I agree. This looks almost too good to be true,
Especially the direct manipulation interface with nothing on his hands for tracking.
but at the same time I like what they're aiming for.
What they are “aiming for” is not a new idea. This is the Minority Report interface. I only give credit for actual shipping product.

Other than the generic statement (as technology improves in general), how close this is to a shipping product is unclear. 🙃

Ehhh...so many people complaining about the look. It's not like these are meant to be worn out in public, it's really no different from a peripheral perspective than a VR visor, just a different take. Did anyone even watch the videos? You wear these at home when you need to use them.

Counter-factuals are hard in that it is unlikely that Apple would release a design as ugly as this,
People said the same exact thing regarding the notch iPhones, “hump” battery case, the iPhone 6 “jockstrap” antennae lines, and the infamous iPhone 4 leak. People legitimately thought the leak was fake because Apple would NEVER release something as horrendously ugly as the iPhone 4. Turns out it was *exactly* what it would look like.

I guess my point is that I’ve learned never to say Apple won’t do something “ugly”, when they have proven that despite popular belief, they will put something out that priorities function over form.

Those things are fugly. Imagine leaving home looking like that. 1713AE6E-DBFF-455E-9696-1EDCB35AFD97.jpeg

There's no way I'd wear glasses if I don't medically have to.

These days you have a bunch of mentally-challenged people who wear one for aesthetic purposes. The uglier, the biggest glasses should be used. I don't need one and I have a model face.

Tech in the pocket. Tech on the wrist. Tech in the ears. Sometimes it’s enough

Just wait for tech as brain implants.

And just as it's getting hard to do basic things like order a meal without invasive tech, it's not going to be optional unless you opt out of society.

Not being a glasses wearer, but always wearing sunglasses outside, I kind of like the idea. You're saying I could get rid of my monitor and streamline my home office setup? I could also get rid of the ugly black rectangle mounted on my wall to watch movies? Without thinking about it too deeply, I would dig that

The glasses look absolutely hideous but the technology looks awesome! It’s like those sci fi movies but in real life. Can’t wait to try them!
