The iPad Air rumor seems very sketchy at best, unless this is the new iPad Pro max with larger screen that has been rumored. Under screen Touch ID and mini LED seems like way too high end tech to bother putting in a mid range 499 device which is where the iPad Air is currently placed in the lineup. Also Apple is all in with Face ID too so all this under screen Touch ID stuff seems like total nonsense especially with new iPhones 12 getting smaller notch.
Would definitely agree with this!

But the ARM architecture may limit the Mac in many ways... Like the current programs been written in x86-x64 & even the BootCamp feature for those working with Windows-only programs...

that's why there is still the macbook air and macbook pro for those who need it

if there are those current programs then no one is forcing them to buy that in the first place.

So, possibly two 12 inch Apple products with ARM processors and almost identical form factors and OS systems. One touchscreen based with a sandboxed file manager for iOS, keyboard and cellular radio optional. One without a touchscreen or cellular radio, but with a regular unix Terminal, process, and file system for macOS and Xcode.

I prefer Touch ID so that will be nice. Hope it comes to other devices. (I actually prefer bezels but I‘m in the losing minority there.)

I’m wondering how this Arm Macbook will play out. So I guess it will be macOS with just a handful of Apple Mac apps ported to Arm to start out? Maybe also run iPad apps even though they’re not optimized for mouse? Could they port the Catalyst iPad apps that were optimized for mouse/ported to x86 back to Arm? Not sure how that works.

the touchID on bigger iPads will be harder to use than the iPhone, it's not just as ergonomic and would be a bigger hassle to have a touchID on the iPad Pro than the iPhone

if they are using the touchID under the screen which will be cheaper in cost than faceID they will put it in the iPad Air and not in the iPad Pro

faceID is more convenient with the iPad given the screen sizes of the iPad is too big.

Additional notes based on his predictions:

  • iPhone 5G: 120Hz, reverse charging, notch shrinks by 1/3, and receiver will be hidden
  • iPhone 5G (5.4"): OLED manufactured by BOE
  • SE2 Plus will be a 2021 product

Indeed. Also it is safe to say that the ARM MacBook 12 will not have Bootcamp in any capacity.

I don’t think Apple will release a regular gamepad considering they just let PlayStation and Xbox into the game. Unless it is related to VR somehow maybe

the new arm macbook will be a bridge between macOS and iOS, it is not easy to transfer but of course apple wants a start.

with them releasing their own headphones despite having beats means they will do that to with gamepad.

Yeah saw that. However, what did s/he mean by receiver?

120 Hz will be nice.

Where are the mini-LED iPad Pro rumours?!? 😉

the Macbook 12 is the best portable macbook even better than the Air which is close to the size of the Pro.

Macbook 12 with a another USB-C, extra touch id/face id, would be the best for people who travel a lot and work on the go.

Have to agree. I really liked the 12 I carried around for a month but ended up taking it back before the return window closed simply because of that single USB-C port. I was not going to live that dongle life just so I could charge and run an external drive at the same time.

I always said that the ARM will come first with a refreshed 12-inch Macbook. I would def buy it over an iPad pro (maybe upgrade my iPad pro 2017 with it).

The earpiece will move to the bezel similar to Huawei P40 series.

But since it runs ARM wouldn't it, in theory, be able to run anything from the iOS store? It would limit in some ways, but open up a lot too.

I am just waiting for the miniled A14X iPad Pro 11”. Don’t want notch, so Touch ID is fine. The 2020 iPP is surprisingly small update compared to the 2018 iPP, I really don’t wanna buy 2018 tech now.

Is the ARM Macbook going to be iOS or MacOS? The former is (more or less) just taking an iPad and adding an integrated keyboard. An interesting product, to be sure, but the latter (running MacOS on a production ARM machine) would be far more significant.

This current health emergency has really shown the importance of Touch still today, and that more than one option is even better.

No in screen finger print sensor for the iphone?😭

Yes it only took an once in a lifetime pandemic lol.

MacBook 12. Sounds like MacBook Pro being left alone.

I think the leaker got it wrong. I don't see Apple bringing back the "MacBook" line again. I see the MacBook Air getting the ARM processor next year.

When was the last time Apple killed a product name, only to bring it back in the future? I don't.

There is no way Apple is investing resources into AR AND VR at the same time. I think they picked their path and they will be heading down the AR path.
