Last week Apple announced brand new updates to its 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro with the faster M1 processor and a brand new mini-LED 12.9-inch display. Both models will become available for pre-order starting on April 30, and Apple says they'll be shipping in the second half of May.

Now, according to Apple leaker Jon Prosser, the 11-inch iPad Pro, which features a faster M1 processor and improved cameras compared to the previous model, will be shipping on May 22. The larger 12.9-inch model, which features the M1 chip, better cameras, and a new mini-LED display, will ship a day earlier, on May 21.

It is worth noting that May 22, which is when Prosser claims the 11-inch iPad Pro will be shipping, is on a Saturday. Apple typically refrains from product launches during the weekend.

Before Apple's product announcement last week, reports had suggested that Apple was suffering from considerable supply restraints. The ongoing chip shortage is reportedly impacting several of Apple's suppliers, and the delay between the announcement and shipments of the new devices has appears to back up these reports.

Apple has in the past announced products only to ship them weeks later, so the situation is not entirely peculiar. While we know the dates for the new iPad Pros, we're still in the dark on the redesigned 24-inch iMac, which Apple also says will begin shipping in the second half of May.

Prosser is not a leaker anymore, he is just guessing. He used to have some kind of source at Apple, but right now he clearly knows nothing. But he needs to say something to stay relevant.

I think he still has good some good sources, but I also think he is putting out info from flaky sources to put out more content.

Seems like a good track record to me. ?

Yea that's really not much of a 'leak' considering Apple said 'second half of May' and that usually does NOT mean May 15th or 16th (they'd called this 'Mid May' then) and likely not May 30th either (they'd have said 'end of May' then) so...

So we're talking anywhere likely the week of May 17-21. Wow look at how I am LEAKING now

I still don’t understand why the 11” iPad Pro didn’t get the mini LED. ?

Because it's inefficient. The 12.9 got thicker and heavier with it. The 11" is meant to be a portable device. Question for me is: why not give it OLED. It works fine in Samsung Tabs for many years and fine in iPhone Pro (even MAX) for many years. So why not?

You want iPad Air with oled later. Be patient. I think I’ll stick with 2018 12.9 til then. No rush.

Yup, it will be very hard to carry the extra 0.5mm!

it’s just marketing ... forcing you to get the 12.9!

And yeah, I can bet next year they will add the mini led to 11” :)

Waiting to see reviews test out the old magic keyboard case on the new iPads. If it’s a no go, I’m holding on to my iPad for another year. Ridiculous that apple is going to make us pay another $350 for a keyboard. Surface pro is not looking so bad right now.

It also got 7% heavier. Now I am not claiming that to be a lot either, but yea... the device ain't getting smaller yet the screen is the same size. That's for sure.

The 12.9 got thicker and heavier with it. The 11" is meant to be a portable device.
While thin & light may make the 11" more portable, the 12.9" is far from being non-portable. Plus, after a certain point, there's too thin. Too many times, someone put a some paper over some coworkers' iPads & MacBook Air. They couldn't even know the iPads/MacBook were there.
