the network is simply the number of devices out there using the product.

when you understand this you’ll realize Tile has a larger market than yeh at you attest to now, or have your opinion on - as there is no devices yet in Apples. Tiles is now in 2 HP laptops and potentially more to come.

Now if we think about the network as a wireless connection medium, then still with GPS it’s still going to be smaller. That said I think as AirTags as a service and a wireless network used by existing devices that others see as just hosts or access points to detect a keychain or spot type tag. (iPhone 11, 12 series, larger if you think iPhone 7 & up use BT/WF low energy to emit their identity to help for FindMy to track then you have a HUGE network that overtakes any competitor. My thought/opinion here is that devices are not hosts.

that said of all the rumours there is not much more of a benefit to what Apple is to offer vs what is already being done by the competition. The last time Apple thought their network for new product category that would be better than the comp. “Ping” ;)

PS I just thought you may think I’m downplaying your opinion, not my intension and I’m not (from direct thought). I’m intrigued by it and a way to challenge it.
Cheers
Every iOS device, whether or not you have airtags, are part of the network.

So I stopped reading after your first sentence which misses that point.

Q4 always means next year.
The calendar year can be divided into four quarters, often abbreviated as Q1, Q2, Q3, and Q4.

In Gregorian calendar:

  • First quarter, Q1: 1 January – 31 March (90 days or 91 days in leap years)
  • Second quarter, Q2: 1 April – 30 June (91 days)
  • Third quarter, Q3: 1 July – 30 September (92 days)
  • Fourth quarter, Q4: 1 October – 31 December (92 days)

I think his post was more a criticism that when rumors mention Q4, it is often pushed back a few months.

I’m not sure you understand how this works.

Currently, if you have a tile and it is outside the range of your device then it can be picked up by other people, and the location sent to you, as long as those other people are running the tile app.

The only reason that I haven’t invested in Tile is that I don’t have confidence in there being other such people around. The total number of people that I know who have the tile app running on their phones, for example, is zero.

If Apple get this right then the airbags will be picked up by anyone who has an iPhone (and hasn’t specifically switched this off, I assume). The number of people I know who have an iPhone is, well, hundreds.

For this purpose, apples network is bigger than tiles many, many times over.

These air tags better have a hole so that you could easily attach it to keychains.

will certainly pick up I would say 2-4 air tags when I start to go about normal life.

11 inch iPad Pro will likely replace my 12.9 now I have the M1 air feel would rather have portability

Can someone explain to me why AirTags are so significant? I assume there are lots of great uses beyond “finding my lost keys,” but I’ve not heard them (and am apparently not imaginative enough to figure them out on my own).
know where you kids are at all time once the lockdown is over.

For me the attraction of airtags is to use in luggage when travelling.

There have been quite a few times when the ability to confirm that the bags that we are waiting for are actually on their way (or on a couple of occasions to know for sure where they actually are) would have saved quite a bit of time and hassle.

Airtags better be rechargeable and have a long battery life or it’s a non starter for me. Some Tiles I had only lasted for about 18 months then you had to throw them away. Now they have replaceable batteries, something that Apple will never do. Also the price. I’ve waited to buy the new Tile to see what happens with airtags. They must be competitively priced with the battery considerations I listed or I’m going with Tile since it seems they’ll integrate into Find My.
