Airtags in my car means I will not have to do hide and seek in these massive parking ramps anymore that the ramps personnel do not fully know either. Only way for them to find my car is with security camera based on my ticket time and search their footage.

For me the attraction of airtags is to use in luggage when travelling.

There have been quite a few times when the ability to confirm that the bags that we are waiting for are actually on their way (or on a couple of occasions to know for sure where they actually are) would have saved quite a bit of time and hassle.
No problem, they will implement Magsafe on it
People would be afraid of Magsafe marks on Airtags and third party will provide Magsafe leather for Airtags for only 19.99 usd

If these don't come with a hole for a keyring or to attach to my dog's collar, they're not going to replace my Tiles completely.
The small one should be able to replace the Tiles on my TV remote controls (especially my Apple TV remotes: they're so tiny!).

Sorry i quoted wrong post, someone talked about battery life, i said maybe Airtags would be Magsafe or wireless charging

I've been on this site for maybe 6 months, and this is probably the 4th time I've seen a report about Airtags. I know this site is called Mac Rumers, but I can't help but feel like this specific topic is like playing Roulette and hoping that the ball finally lands on your number. Has Tim Cook or any executive at Apple other than this leaker even mentioned the word "airtags" in all this time? I've seen maybe 3 of the presentations and no one has even come close.

Can someone explain to me why AirTags are so significant? I assume there are lots of great uses beyond “finding my lost keys,” but I’ve not heard them (and am apparently not imaginative enough to figure them out on my own).
I'd say "finding my lost keys" (or in my case, "finding my wife's lost keys") is the most significant use I can think of.

Think about it this way. Loose anything else and you're probably ok. Loose your car keys and you are stuck where you are.

Of course, if you drive a Tesla your key can already be found in the Find My app since your phone becomes your key.

Honestly, no one knows. Sometimes Apple has a long range plan that requires a certain technology to have a certain level of support s

If the iPad Pro is launched next month and is compatible with Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil 2 I’ll order for sure. If not, I’ll hang on to my 2018 another year or so. I’m also intrigued about the rumored 14” MacBook Pro to replace my 2017 MacBook Pro.
Likewise. If the 11” fits my Magic Keyboard, works with 2nd gen Apple Pencil, and has a worthwhile display contrast ratio improvement, I’ll upgrade.

I have Tile and use it to find my keys and find my wallet. That’s it. I’ve no interest in AirTags.
I have Tile (thin) in my wallet too (well, I used to, before the non-replaceable battery completely died). When would activate it, the beep was inaudible unless I was standing 8 feet from it. Failed the most basic of use cases. The battery (life and non-replaceable) and the uselessly too quiet speaker killed it for me. Same with the other 'deluxe' versions.

Apple has over a billion iPhones and more than 1.6 billion Apple devices capable of contributing to the “find my” network. Even without air tag, Apple already beats Tile in terms of device adoption.

You‘r not really good at reading are you? I specifically stated this EXACTLY - as in comparing the ‘network’ if you include the iPhones ... Not ALL those 1.6 billion devices have the technology for directional beacons (proper tech escapes for the moment; but you know what I mean).

still lots of S5’s, SE ‘16 OG‘s, 7’s, 8’s, X’s, Xr’s in that mix ... so it’s a lot less than you think (1.6billion devices).

So please fully read my posts before coming back as if I’m a young kid ;)

Now if we think about the network as a wireless connection medium, then still with GPS it’s still going to be smaller. That said I think as AirTags as a service and a wireless network used by existing devices that others see as just hosts or access points to detect a keychain or spot type tag. (iPhone 11, 12 series, larger if you think iPhone 7 & up use BT/WF low energy to emit their identity to help for FindMy to track then you have a HUGE network that overtakes any competitor. My thought/opinion here is that devices are not hosts.

that said of all the rumours there is not much more of a benefit to what Apple is to offer vs what is already being done by the competition. The last time Apple thought their network for new product category that would be better than the comp. “Ping” ;)

Every iOS device, whether or not you have airtags, are part of the network.

So I stopped reading after your first sentence which misses that point.

You’re incorrect.

not ALL iOS devices would be part of this. All iOS devices can detect one another in lower power mode or in secret for FindMy IF the device has been disabled. Please research properly.

Ultra Wideband is available on iPhone 11 models and iPhone 12 models, and availability varies by region.

When use of Ultra Wideband is prohibited in your region, such as while traveling in aircraft, Ultra Wideband can be turned off by turning on airplane mode.

I’m not sure you understand how this works.

Currently, if you have a tile and it is outside the range of your device then it can be picked up by other people, and the location sent to you, as long as those other people are running the tile app.

The only reason that I haven’t invested in Tile is that I don’t have confidence in there being other such people around. The total number of people that I know who have the tile app running on their phones, for example, is zero.

If Apple get this right then the airbags will be picked up by anyone who has an iPhone (and hasn’t specifically switched this off, I assume). The number of people I know who have an iPhone is, well, hundreds.

For this purpose, apples network is bigger than tiles many, many times over.
I understand perfectly how this works - probably more than you do.

Firstly Tile can still be tracked via GPS each tag (like all those knock-offs) have their own power source. Course they don’t emit their location frequently, to conserve power, but say 15/30/60mins they will.

Apple’s technology using FindMy and as well as certain recent models for more accurate and directional location, will do so as frequently as battery capacity will allow for - will do so when in ‘deep standby’

So with all the rumours of this tech from Apple, not anything states it’ll be better than this and if we look at what Samsung offers right now, there is no extra benefit than Tile, other than more devices to find something quicker - due to not relying only on GPS ... So beyond the iOS devices (iPads inclusive) what do YOU think Apple will offer more as a unique benefit. Hmm?

I think this is why this ‘device’ as a product has been rumoured for close to 2.5yrs no and nothing has come of it. No official announcement, no official product launch. This is why I personally believe this is not a product ... it’s a service add-on for existing devices. Unless Apple charges an arm and a leg for a ’tag’ it’s not going to make significant margins - even at $10/device. There has to be a more significant benefit than existing market devices for Apple to really see where they can bring something new and significant. Example: Apple Watch - for 10yrs prior existing digital watches existed, with Sony’s having the closest approach to Apple’s offerings - but relied on 3rd party apps. There was no heartbeat sensor, no Fitness training services, no ECG (regardless of competitor until after Apple did this), no stylish bands the likes of what Apple has, and breadth of where you can buy them. The UI was horrible as well. So you can think of the comparison and think do you honestly believe Apple is just going to bring out a Tag like Samsung did recently or what Tile just does? No. They should do significantly better.

What? What you wrote doesn’t make any sense. Why would you have to disable the device in order for it to work? And what does “in secret” mean? What are you talking about?

The sdk documentation is on the developer website. Your description bears no resemblance to how Apple says it works.
