You are already seeing people here who complain about a proposed cutout and say that Apple should stick to the notch. People are weird.Looking forward to the „Bring the notch back!“ posts after iPhone 14 has been released … ?
It has worked for over a year. All you need is an Apple Watch. No sense in them doing anything beyond that.
if by "spend untold millions" you mean "order a different display unit from samsung display"... you're entirely correct.“The notch is a non issue” claim the Apple faithful. If so, why would Apl spend untold millions of dollars in R&D and new hardware to get rid of it?
Apparently they hate it just as much as the general public haters do too
The most important thing is to bring back TouchID. FaceID is a royal pain when wearing a mask and trying to pay with Apple Pay. Mask wearing is likely to continue for several more years.
iPhone 14 Pro models will feature a pill-shaped camera cutout at the top of the display, with the notch removed, according to tweets shared by leaker @dylandkt, who has proven to be a reliable source of Apple-related rumors over the last year or so. To accommodate this change, the leaker said Face ID hardware will be moved under the display.

While it has been widely reported that iPhone 14 Pro models will not have a notch by reputable sources like analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, this is the first time we've heard about the possibility of a pill-shaped camera cutout at the top of the display instead of a circular hole-punch cutout that was originally rumored.
Face ID moving under the display has likewise been rumored previously by display industry consultant Ross Young, who has proven to be a reliable source of display-related information for future Apple products. Last year, for example, Young accurately claimed that the new iPad mini would feature an 8.3-inch display with the home button removed.
In a tweet, @dylandkt said he has been assured that Face ID's reliability will not be negatively affected by the under-display change.
Apple is rumored to be planning a 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro and a 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max for release in September of this year. The lineup is also expected to include a 6.1-inch iPhone 14 and a 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max, and as of now it appears that these models will continue to have a notch, with a pill-shaped camera cutout limited to Pro models.
Last year, @dylandkt shared accurate information about products like the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro before they were released.

How about displays integrating a reliable Face ID system? How long have those been available from the bargain bin?if by "spend untold millions" you mean "order a different display unit from samsung display"... you're entirely correct.
"Hole punch" displays have been available on the market since 2019.
What does that even mean? How about displays integrating a reliable Face ID system? How long have those been available from the bargain bin?
You had said that lots of Android phones already had a hole punch camera and asked why it took Apple so long. The point was that it is not just the camera. Face ID needed to be made to work under the screen so that it would not obscure the screen or require a bigger notch. that is why Apple could not do a hole punch camera sooner. What does that even mean?
The display doesn't "integrate" a Face unlock system... there's a hole in it. Whether it's a notch or a literal hole, that lets light pass through to whatever is behind it. You can put whatever you want behind that hole, a face sensor, a camera, a laser beam... I'm not sure what your point is here.
Yes, this is likely a progressive evolution from bezel > notch > slightly smaller notch > hole punch > all screenWait a second.
If FaceID hardware is under the display, then we’re just a selfie camera away from an all-screen design.
It’s also in their best interest to wait for a major iPhone generation. An all-screen design is the next major upgrade. I’m sure they’ll design a foldable phone and figure out more ways to entice an upgrade, but that will be the peak of the iPhone X design.Yes, this is likely a progressive evolution from bezel > notch > slightly smaller notch > hole punch > all screen
Each step requires Apple to develop cameras and sensors that will fit into the smallest space or will work under the display. That is a tall order so it can't happen immediately just because we want it now.
Not exactly. Face ID just needs to be improved sufficiently to compensate for the effects of being behind the screen, i.e. it just needs to be "good enough" to hit a minimum security level. The selfie camera can't be placed behind the screen unless Apple is willing to not push the selfie camera to its best quality.Wait a second.
