So: Pro now means: only silver & grey + black bezels
while consumer means: color + white bezels

sounds legit

For sure the MBA will come in colour versions. Apple just made thei HomePods multicoloured, so it will be matched with new MBAs. Now I can see them doing the white bezel. The notch is a “style” or identity that that've decided to use to differentiate their products on. They will have “courage”.

Pros just love black, and casuals love colour.

In all seriousness, this makes sense for differencing the machines.

And you're just one can of spray paint away from changing the color anyway.

Exactly my thinking. Just because the iMac has them doesn't mean the MacBook Air will. Colours seems a dead cert but it wouldn't surprise me to see these more inspired by the iPad Air and mini, with mute pastel colours and black bezels (probably with a notch)

Colors make sense in keeping with the market Apple is likely targeting and it continues the branding of the iMacs.

Looks as bad as the new iMacs….and that white notch is even more distracting. Whoever is designing these Apple products seems to be obsessed with notches.

i agree with this, put any color your want on the casing, please do not touch on the keyboard and bezel area.

I'm super tired of everything being aluminum and black so I'm stoked about Apple bringing bright optimistic colours back in. And using them to delineate consumer from pro is great.

If at least they released a 16inch MBA, then I'd have a hard time deciding whether to get it or not, as a 16inch MBA is exactly the laptop I'd want, so I'd be trying to convince myself whether I can live with the notch or not. But if it's going to be 14inch, and with a notch, I'll pass.

Next Fall, with the release of the M2, I think we'll see the return of the "MacBook" in 12" and 14" sizes to replace the 13" MBP. In the meantime, the Air will get a design/color upgrade, but not much else will change.

I'd love to see the air get a 14" screen (doesn't have to be 120hz). Basically just separate them on performance instead. Probably unlikely though and Apple probably also wants at least one extremely light/slim model.

13.3" is just too cramped though.

A white notch. I'm sure it would become used to it in a few years ?

Makes total sense, and I’m all for it. I think it’s good to move the more consumer macbooks away from the design of the macbook pros. That’s the way it always was before. I like the white bezels. Make them fun. Use brighter colors.

I intend to buy the new iteration of the MacBook Air (M2) but I would really prefer a black keyboard and border. I'm hoping that Apple will use the black keyboard as a cost saving measure because they could use the same keyboard for the MBA and MBP.
I’m on the same train as you (thinking of getting an M2 or M3 MacBook) but I’m afraid almost all the chances are on the white bezels & white keyboard. And the notch is still very likely but maybe, just maybe, we can avoid it if the engineers decide to put a worse camera and/or thicker bezels.

But to be honest, if I had to bet, I’d bet for a notched screen with white bezels.

Thankfully I am SO pleased still with my Rose Gold MBA without notch and even have a name in the middle on the low bezel. Honestly, one of the portable Mac that I loved the most, at least as much as a MBP I had that also were awesome some time ago.
A white, no! Then next portable will be one of the least expensive MBP. Absolutely. They looked all good, except for the lack of the name on the low bezel. ?

I'm already sold on the iconic look of the notch. Especially if it doesn't impact the viewable screen area.

It grew on me on these, unlike the iPhone.

That screen is too small, so the notch is GIGANTIC on the iPhone by comparison.

I'd still prefer a hole-punch, but I've come to peace with this.

A white MacBook Air could compel me to get a Mac again (as a secondary device), almost for nostalgia's sake.

If apple does this i will lose all trust in their ability to design anything well anymore. White was ok 10 years ago but add a notch to it and it just looks comical. I already can’t believe they put a notch on a computer so a white one I wouldn’t put it past them. No more elegance and sleek designs from apple it seems

That could be a nice way to go. Right now the biggest problem is that if they only have 1" separating models they are simply too close toghet

I'd definitely prefer no notch at all and a crappy camera, but ultimately I think i'll just get used to it and ignore it.
