i would leave it that way and would not use anything greasy or oil/ wax etc.
i made the mistake and it darkened the case in a way that does not look good. give it some time, some use and your hand grease will be enough for a nice patina.
I’m leaning this direction. I realize once I put something on it there’s no going back.

I upgraded from my old XS to the new 12 mini. Loving the size. Old leather case did age quite well but I’m a bit worried about the newer ones based on what I’ve seen here.
anyone having a California poppy case.. how is your case aging?

so are your comments i think. happy day

leave it that way and wait for a natural patina to come with time.

any balm or whatever will darken it badly.

I put some Smiths leather balm on it. Minimal colour change but softened it up quite a bit. I’m pleased overall.

Cant wait for the patina on the saddle brown MagSafe wallet. I decided to go with the saddle brown since it is a nice contrast to the black leather case.

Came across a really good video on YouTube that explains the differences in apple leather cases

Wow that was a really good video. I hope he makes a video showing how he’s going to remove the coating from the case. I may pick up a saddle brown for my mini and try to remove the coating.

This is a very much abused Nomad/Moment leather case. I got it when I had my iPhone X, then gave the phone to my son when I got the 11 Pro (on its release day). Hence the abuse. He goes through a screen protector every couple of months, and as you can see, the case has had its share of abuse. The leather started peeling from the top corner recently- I’m surprised at how thin it is. Nonetheless, it’s been a great case to be able to survive my sons abuse. The phone itself still looks brand new when removed from the case.

Removing the coating is easy. Did mine last night. A damp magic eraser and you’ll have it off in under 5 minutes.

Using a leather wipe whenever I’m done using the red and it’s going well. Black spots appear and do not rub away with a dry cloth, but the wipes keep it clean.
Unlike another poster, my case shows white underneath instead of red.

That’s funny that you mentioned the magic eraser. I was in the process of cleaning my stove just now and didn’t realize I have the wet application magic eraser. I’ve probably had them for years and never realized it.

But that’s sandpaper, why do it?

I never said I was. I don’t even have the saddle brown case. I bought and returned two of them for my 12. I’m using the natural Nomad on the 12 and the rustic brown Nomad on my mini.

Also, the video linked above pretty much explains why someone would try it.

Makes me happy that I’m sticking with my Nomad cases.

Anyone have any experience with Decode cases? Thinking about this one since it has magsafe...

Had a decoded case on my XR. It was decent but not great. The leather was rough to start and darkened really fast. The leather dye also stained the antenna bands on the side of my white XR which was disappointing.

I wanted the natural but the lack of MagSafe, buttons, and plastic edged steered me away. It’s great quality leather, hope you enjoy it
