How thin it is is also connected to the leather used. A piece of full grain leather can only be so thin. If you want really thin you have to take away layers and then it isn’t full grain anymore.I always thought it had something do with squared sides of the 12 as to why they changed the leather. It could have also just been cost cutting. I don’t really care about finding the same leather they used as much as finding a case that’s as thin and light as the apple leather case with the same fit. Other brands don’t have the brand name Apple to lean on so if they write their leather is top grain, for example, it would cost them customers. Just see people’s reaction to the recent pictures of “top grain” on the box but full grain on the site. Apple never even wrote what grade/type of leather they used, they didn’t need to.
