So I’ve had the Nomad Traditional English Tan for about two weeks and the Ryan London Saddle Brown for about 5 days.
Main differences;
Leather feels more like actual leather on the RL. The Nomad (it isn’t the Horween, it’s the Ecco) feels smoother and finished with something?
The camera ring is taller/protrudes more on the Ryan. Not quite as tidy looking as it protrudes beyond the lenses but ultimately doesn’t matter. Nomad sets it directly against the leather whereas the RL has the leather sort of curving up before the ring begins. The metal ring is sharper on the RL but the buttons are sharper on the Nomad.
Tighter fit on the RL for me. The Nomad is a little loose which I notice as I set it down and pull it from a pocket etc. I wanted to try another Nomad but can’t find any in stock in this colour!
The colour. The RL is a much nicer brown out of the box. The Nomad looks a bit more like, well, poo brown. I had a Ryan in this colour on my 15 Pro which had a lovely patina and I’m sure the Nomad would also darken beautifully over time… I think?
I feel like the RL makes the phone feel heavier so I weighed them and it’s actually a gram lighter so… who knows?
Buttons are clickier on the Nomad but hoping they’ll soften in time on the RL. Camera Control is fine on both - less reactive/clicky on the Ryan which works for me as Nomad’s is maybe a little soft.
RL definitely has more of a lip which ties into the Nomad looking a little more sleek as it’s all a little smaller and tighter to the form of the phone but it’s ultimately next to nothing. I’d say the RL is around 0.5-1mm thicker overall. The majority of that is not the lip though. Not sure if the leather or shell underneath is thicker?
Nomad is sleeker feeling though I feel like the leather on the RL feels more premium. The leather lacks the uniformity of the Nomad - in a good way - though hoping this’ll change as the Nomad ages.
Overall I really want to love the Nomad but I’m leaning toward the Ryan just now but guess I’ll just keep both and see how they go. The RL just feels and looks more like I’d expect of a premium leather case, particularly the leather feel and tight fit but the Nomad does feel a touch slimmer.
