My thoughts exactly. You switched congrads. Good for you. I have a iPhone which I love. Which is why I come to an iPhone forum. I could careless about you getting this new phone which hasn't come out yet.

I guess it might be time to find a new forum.

...well a lot of us who use these forums every day do want to hear what people like this have to say, maybe its time for you to stop posting pointless responses if you don't care about the thread topic.

it's a sad day to see another homie fall. we will pour out a 40 for you tonight. the boys will miss you.

Another disappointment is when using 4G, the EVO's battery runs down alarmingly fast. Sprint is thinking of advising users to turn off the 4G network access when they don't think they need it,

That is my big question. The iPhone beat out the smartphone competition because the battery lasts all day under pretty heavy use. Nobody else could do that at the time-- and, apparently, still can't?

If we get a lot more posts like this maybe Apple will end the silly restrictions they impose on us users and start to innovate again....

After fighting the Jailbreak updates for a couple years I am getting tired myself. I will wait for the 4 announcement and if I don't see any progress I will be moving on myself.

To the OP, great post and all valid points. What it simmers down to is Android is on the cutting edge and Apple is stagnant with basically the same OS on iPhone 2010 as back in 2007.

Ironic how Apple choses AT&T as their carrier in the US. It sucks balls form what I hear from this forum and C-net and blogs and well... everyone.

I the Netherlands, where I live, the carrier is Tmobile, it's great, fantastic, and cheap! I only pay 30 euro's a month for truly unlimited 3G data, 150 call minutes and 150 sms messages.

About switching to Adroid: I want a phone that works great. The iPhone works great because the software is fantastic. The camera sucks, it features a low resolution display, the battery last only one day. But it works just amazingly simple and intuitive. I played around with Android and WinM but it just doesn't come close to the iPhoneOS. I don't give a crap about Flash or the iPhone not being "open", it just works really good. That's what I need form a phone, or any electronic device for that matter.

Let me summarize these threads for you:

*insert whiny poster*: I am tired of iPhone because * of ATT*, and I am going to switch to *another phone, maybe, unless Apple opens the iPhone to more carriers- but, I've been threatening to do that for a year and I'm still here, so, ... *.

:)

Let me summarize these threads for you:

*insert whiny poster*: I am tired of iPhone because *insert the same list of reasons as previous whiny posters*, and I am going to switch to *insert the same list of phones that other whiny posters have switched to*.

So really, we heard them all. The worst part is every new post seems to be increasing its length with more gibberish.

Bye, see ya!

LOL...as opposed to your endless array of caustic, self-serving, needlessly sarcastic and ultimately useless posts? Do you and the rest of your little internet cop buddies own this site? Didn't think so. Beat it, the kids with something to actually talk about are talking.

This thread has been interesting to read. I keep reading the phrase "the iPhone OS has grown stale" but with no examples. How exactly is it "stale?"

I've also read comments about Apple keeping with the current OS because of familiarity and "lowest common denominator." I don't really see what's wrong with that -- especially if it sells. Cool geeky stuff doesn't appeal to the majority of the buying public. I've been a professional developer for 15 years and if it's one thing I've learned it is that users hate complexity and they rarely use the coolest features.

Hah, and the purpose of your post is?

I think I have finally figured out why most of you choose to post here.

1. Nobody cares to respond to you when you post on facebook.
2. Nobody reads your myspace page anymore.
3. Can't post on twitter because of the words limit, and you have a lot to whine about.
4. Majority of participants here are in the same shoes.

Me? I enjoy pointing out the obvious and state the obvious. But actually if you read my history, I do help when I recognize actual help is need instead of someone that is too lazy to find their own answers.

I believe most of the complaints are in regards to the lock screen/home screen and the lack of easy-to-read info updates on them.

Opinion: pages full of icons does get a bit old as well.

densan

My god but I do love gadgets so. However, the companies - Google, Apple, etc. must be gleefully looking at us through dollar sign eyes as we scramble back and forth to by this and that new faster, cooler electronic "stuff". I just received the coolest message the other day. An old friend sent me a letter (I know snail mail) for the heck of it written with a fountain pen. I didn't know they still existed. How quaint and enjoyable to read the letter with a cup a coffee. I'll email them back later.

I'm really not trying to start a flame war here and will be ignoring the self-serving bait posts trying to start something...

Back to topic: I am curious how many people have honestly handled an HTC sense enabled android, and honest to goodness really thought the iPhone OS is superior?

Also, I am pretty loyal to apple, I've got MobileMe, airport extreme, Mac pro, MacBook pro, iPhone, and iPad. There is a part of me that wants to stay all apple, just for the sake of loyalty, but can't find myself ignoring what I'm seeing in android, and it personally benefitting me over iPhone. That's my struggle...

Of the ones sticking with iPhone, how much is brand loyalty, contractual commitments/business discounts playing a part in you sticking with it, and who of you REALLY believe that os 4.0 is technically or aesthetically superior?

Ahh. I guess I don't see that as being stale but rather minor annoyances like the Notes application being permanently stuck on marker felt. Perhaps all Apple needs to do is make a few minor cosmetic enhancements and everyone will think something big happened.

1. Force Jobs into retirement. He's an obnoxious, loudmouthed salesman, nothing more. Get a real CEO that views customers as an asset, for a change.

2. Listen to it's customers and give them what they want instead of imposing what Apple insists is good for them.

Well said! Steve Jobs is out of his mind, and his personal vendetta against Adobe is going to leave many iPhone and Apple costumers with yet another item on their wish list permanently.

It's true and Apple and Steve Jobs has a track record of pompously insisting what the customer likes, wants and needs.

Very fair question. I've had a number of cell phones over the years but the iPhone is the first I actually liked. I got it a bit for the cool factor but also for the simplicity. After decades of software work (amateur then pro) I've kinda gotten over the comparison game. I code for PCs and have Apple stuff at home. It's all good. :)

The writing is on the wall, the only upgrade iPhone 2010 is going to see is hardware. The screen even looks to be the same exact size and the OS (4.0) is going to be the same cookie cutter OS that we've been seeing for the past three years. Innovation is something the iPhone desperately needs in order to catch up to the competition.

If Apple decides it's too good to change and above it all, then by all means I hope Android and Blackberry and WinMo7 chew it up and spit it out.

+100000000 on this comment. It's time for apple to drop their arrogant attitude and that air about them like their S*** doesn't stink. And it starts at the top with their spin doctor "everything we make is wonderful and revolutionary" CEO

to everyone who is complaining about the recent influx of android / HTC related threads on MACrumors... makes you wonder what apple is doing that forums related to their products are discussing alternate products in higher numbers than usual... maybe its because they (apple) have stopped innovating on the scale apple customers have grown accustomed to... I for one really hope apple delivers at WWDC but im not holding my breath...

iPhone OS is sure a beast and it works great, is simple to use, and fun in most cases... but the competition is putting out more elegant user interfaces that will strike users as being superior to apples, and I dont think changing the wallpaper options (which are always covered by a full screen of icons) and a new dock appearance that we are getting in iPhone OS 4 is going to cut it...

competition is good... discussion is good... mindless bashing of people for their curiosity is lame...

The EVO looks like an impressive device, and I love the Sense UI that HTC uses. But for me, the iPhone is perfect.

For me it's not about the hardware or system. I couldn't really care less about either. It's about the software available for the platform and Apple is clearly more organized in that regard. While Google is trying to figure out how to eliminate fragmentation so one app runs on all Android platforms, Apple never had the problem in the first place. Developers need a single SDK, a single place to turn for help and don't have to worry about competing brands of the same system. Consumers go to one place for applications and don't have to pay any attention to what system version it targets and so on. Further, it certainly appears that Apple has made sure some things will stay exclusive to iPhone, such as MLB at Bat's ability to stream live game video. Being a baseball junkie, that's important and one reason why I have no interest in Android. The EVO might be able to run circles around iPhone but without live streaming video or Slingplayer, it makes no difference to me. If an Android phone could do those two things, I seriously doubt I'd still own an iPhone and would definately not be stuck with the worst carrier on the face of the earth.

To answer the actual question, I had an Android phone for a month or so but gave it to a cousin who broke his phone.

Oh, and yes, I know streaming video is technically possible on Android but it doesn't matter when MLB flat out states "it's not technically possible". To me that means they've been paid off and simply won't do it, period, and that's the bottom line. It won't happen. I also know that Sling Media has announced Slingplayer for Android but for those that never watched Sling Media do anything before, they are the slowest company on the face of the earth. They make Apple look dowright responsive. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it.
