Well no doubt the current MBP design still holds its own against every other laptop out there, but I think we all know Apple could do so much better. I mean the iMac design is still great but it's also still an iMac G5 case, basically, and there are rumours of that product receiving a major facelift...no reason why the MBP should be any less deserving. Eventually you just gotta move on.

i'd love to see a new enclosure, but it's probably not coming anytime soon. as far as I know, the current mbp is selling well.

I really hope they put LED screens in the 15 inch MBP on June 11th. I've been waiting to order my MBP till it has the specs I want, so I hope I don't need to wait till october.

what about the mb's

i've been waiting since november for apple to finally make a significant change to their line of notebooks. does apple normally update/upgrade their pro line before the consumer line of computers? i don't need a mbp or anything, it would be nice to get a 15.4, but i really can't afford one. (trying to pay off a car)

Uhm...wern`t the MPB`s updated in octber..and the MB`s in November??????? Why didn`t you just buy one then...?

I'm really anxious to see how much of a difference these LED screens actually make over the current model.

At any rate, I'm still keeping up my usual scheming and will be selling my MBP within the next week or so and waiting until school starts back up in August to buy a new one. Figure that kind of cycle is smart since I can typically make the upgrade for free if I time it right (hasn't let me down so far - I went from a Powerbook G4 to the MBP I have now for about $300 over the whole scheme of things).

because it wasn't a "major" update. it was just a tiny "tweak" nothing to special. now with the santa rosa chip set and led backlit displays, and maybe expandable memory to 4gbs, now that's an update! something worth buying now. i don't really care about 10.5 at the moment. even if they held off till 2008, i'd rather have the hardware before software. i've been waiting a very long time to go mac.

New enclosure in anodized black, user-replaceable HD, mag latch, and santa rosa platform please

That would have me walking out of the Apple Store with a new MBP and iPhone on the same day! 2GB RAM/160GB HDD base config would be sweet, too. Maybe 8-16 GB of Flash onboard - instant on? Oh, and still "only" $1999? Duuude!

Man, I gotta quit mixing Nyquil & Diet Coke. I keep hallucinating...

In europe where we have PAL instead of NTSC, we say Never The Same Color is the full name for NTSC, so 98% of the colorspectrum of NTSC does not sound promising at all, but hey, ill take a good look at it when it's in stores near us ;-).

LOL :D

Probably won't happen but...

Makes sense. MBP goes Santa Rosa with LED in late June or early July. I would be surprised but not totally shocked to see a WWDC announcement with immediate availability, more likely to be shipping 2-3 weeks later. Likewise a July or early August timeframe for Santa Rosa with LED MacBooks makes sense as well.

Hopefully this means the iMac revision will be announced with immediate availabilty at WWDC, though there is no mention of LED display orders for the 17, 20, or 24 inch screens. It's possible that the iMac gets the Santa Rosa update along with some other spec changes at WWDC, but does not see new screens till the fall.

If they did announce new laptops at WWDC, it would be REALLY nice of Apple to include a free, or at least discounted, upgrade to Leopard. But that is highly unlikely, especially given the October release date.

I'm not saying it is deserved, or that they owe it to anyone. I have paid for every version of Mac OSX and been happy to do so. I'm just saying it would be a nice gesture. As it is, they'll probably do that a month or less out.

Why? New laptops are not going to be the revolution you think they might be and you've now wasted all this time without a Mac. Madness. :)

i know that.:) but i wanted to get more bang for my buck. c2d wasn't that big of a deal even tho i didn't really need a new laptop, it was more of a want and since then, it's now a need. if they came out with these specs in november, i would have purchased one then. i know technology changes every month. if i had it my way, i would have purchased the mb when it first came out last summer. ayways, does apple normally update their pro line before their consumer line? would it be safe to say to expect the updated mb in the fall?

I dont think any hardware updates (Macs) should be released till Leopard has been unveiled unless of course there's a free update voucher of some sort BUT LED displays is definately something to look forward to.

there are reasons to not own a car mate, mbp is one of them!

Why change a winning design? :)

quite a winning design too and if they tweak it and make few small changes such as magnet latch or something small... i am for it. change drastically and leave me with inability to suffer safari 1.0 type of hardware changes till later. im no hardware beta tester

In the end, of course we'll have to see for ourselves, but I presume if Apple is ready to do this, that they will produce something drool-worthy enough for crowds to line up for, plastic in hand.

As has been shared several times: it's been a while since and hardware refreshes. And with Apple dropping "Computer" from the name, it makes sense for them to also refresh their look/feel. Starting with the iPhone.

That said, is it possible to look to the iPhone for a hint at where Apple is headed re: hardware design?

Just a thought...

musings... why a swappable hd

anyways, does apple normally update their pro line before their consumer line? would it be safe to say to expect the updated mb in the fall?

yes. :)

i can't help but be curious as to why so many people here think that a removable hard drive is 'imperative' on a mbp?

it seems to me that the need for more storage would be much better solved by purhasing an external hd/portable external hd.

that would seem to be much more practical as:

1) one then has 2 drives that are 'always' accessible when one wants.
2) one hd can be used as a backup.
3) synching becomes easy (it must be a mess with swappable drives).
4) one can easily be plugged into any computer one wanted.
5) swappable means more fiddly stuff on the mbp.

or am i missing something here? hmmmmmm:eek:

any thoughts?

... my mbp color?

... and i would vote for the mbp to keep the silver finish.

i personally think black makes it so mundane... just like all the other run-of-the-mill pcs out there.

I think for the majority of users, you're right, a user replaceable hard drive isn't a must have feature. External hard drives can offer most of the same function.

However, the crowd here is not your typical user. We generally want to put in our own combination of cheaper non-Apple replacement parts, like 3rd party RAM and hard drives. Rather than pay the BTO upgrade costs to get the large, fast hard drive we all really want, we'd rather have a computer that we could swap those components out ourselves. That way, after the initial stock purchase, we could bargain shop for the exact hard drive desired.

In addition, in 6 months time, when a newer, larger, faster hard drive comes out, you can replace the old one easy as pie.

I'm telling you, Apple's going to completely revamp their lineup this summer. I don't just mean spec-wise, I mean like a new look. They changed their name, and now they're changing their look too.

Here here. New Motherboards for Mac Pro /Xserve. Case redesign for MBP. Introduction of a smaller MBP. iPhone. New iPods. New iMacs. And a tablet!!!

What did I miss, oh.... minis.... ummmm... :apple: tv. Need I say more.
