Actually a member has been posting through numerous threads that he had it on good info it would be today due to stock shortages of the old ones

News like that seems to come around very often, and it's false most of the time. Out of all the times we read reports like that, only about 1 in 20 prove to yield any truth.

So you wouldn't say a dry stock of mbps in most retailers is a good indicator then?

We could still see some before WWDC. LED screens and, potentially, new Radeon cards would have arrived right up against deadline for getting new machines out. It would be easy to see delays.

Alternatively, if new enclosures or other key component changes are in the works, we could be seeing old stock run down in advance of a new model. MBPs are hot sellers, it would be very difficult to time a change-over right if you didn't want to make advance announcements (which Apple doesn't like to do).

We'll see ...

Not really...perhaps the freighter is just caught up at the dock, or maybe this report is delayed. I'm trying to say that every few weeks, someone claims that stocks are low, and that the notebooks must be updated. I'm just saying that it isn't a very good indicator.

From AMD's website it says that notebooks with the Mobility HD 2600 series will be released this month. I posted a link somewhere on these forums...
I reckon we will see the SR MBP released soon after other companies start releasing notebooks with the HD 2600 in them, or the 8600. Until then, no updates. Which is good, because the GPU is the only thing that has the potential to be really great. I mean, LED screens are nice, and Santa Rosa would be great, but the upgrade from X1600 to HD2600 or 8600M would be huge...

And computer distributors being out of stock means nothing. It never has.

It occurs to me that the specs of the new MBP upgrade would have been worked out when Leopard was still on track for a June release.

We could see it launched at WWDC as pre-emptively supporting some new Leopard features, like for example Robson and resolution independence.

I think that the only reason that Apple is creating a 10.4.10 is to bring certain compatibility/features forward so that the new MBP/iMac could be updated with and utilize all of the technologies of SR/LED/etc.

here's to hoping that your right my friend:)

Skool kids should buy Macbook only.

I dont know about other colleges/uni, but i go to an artschool. 90-95% of the students here use MBP's. We dont own them because they look nice, but because we need the stronger proc/gpu to render, photoshop, illustrator, flash, etc... :]

What about resolution independence? I hope the MBPs can come with higher resolution screens.

I agree with you, metal sucks. Silver is outdated.

Bring on a slick matte black carbon fibre - plastic hybrid.

Metal seems to mar, dent, scratch prematurely, conducts heat to the lap too well, obscures wi-fi signals, and feels ergonomically wrong.

While Apple is at it, please design a slick dock for the Macbookpro. Why can't they get that right. Many pros would love the Mbp to magnetically connect to a dock with keyboard, mouse, cinema display, external drive, wired ethernet, ipod, iphone capabilities.

Black is a nightmare. Smudges all the time. Keys getting shiny. I just got a BlackBook and I'm ready to upgrade to a Pro just to get the easy to clean easy to keep aluminum. I had a 12-inch powerbook and it never got dented and only had a few tiny scratches in it after four years. The keyboard still looked good too. If they don't come out with a new 15 incher soon I'm going to do whatever I can to get a good AlBook with a clear screen (I see grain on the current screen, sensitive eyes), even if that means picking up a used 15-inch PowerBook G4 for a few months or shelling out the extra cash for a 17-inch.

But I have faith that a new machine will be released within a few weeks. At that point, look for a perfectly brand new and well cared for Blackbook on eBay. It'll be mine.

LED screens seem to be a given for the 15.4" as well as Santa Rosa goodies all round, but it seems to me that, if there is a WWDC announcement, it is not going to be a major update.

I would have thought that Macworld, Q1 2008 is way more likely to see major product revisions. Leopard will have been released and Penryn will be ready for new laptops, the price of flash memory will have dropped and bigger LED screens will be much cheaper. So you will get faster laptops with leopard support for flash caching, better battery life, better (hopefully higher res) screens, without the shocking price tag. A built in blu-ray drive would also be nice :)

I think I'm gonna save up for a nice 17" MacBook Pro 3.2GHz...

And what's wrong with a Santa Rosa update right now, and a Penryn update at MWSF?

It would be hard for me to believe Apple would update the cases on the MBPs out of the blue... there likely would have been more industry buzz and/or rumours by now about this... However one strong point regarding this; LED screens have been consistently utilized in PC notebooks as not only brighter/longer lasting, but more importantly they allow the notebook to feature a much thinner design (see Sony etc.) I believe when we indeed see an LED screen on a MBP (or iMac for that matter), we will see a redesigned case (subtly or not) featuring a thinner profile.

Nothing; I just think that some people's expectations of more major chassis/technology updates at the same time as Santa Rosa are somewhat unrealistic seeing as Santa Rosa itself does not represent a major change.

And Penryn does?
Upgrading to Santa Rosa will undoubtedly mean Apple have to redesign how everything fits inside the MBP. It's not going to be a case of pulling out Napa and sticking in SR. LED screens mean the top half of the MBP will have to be redesigned. If Apple engineers have to redesign the insides of the MBP, they might as well do a case redesign, and design in a better graphics card.
The Penryn upgrade is a case of pull out Merom, stick in Penryn. Apple isn't going to do much redesigning for that.

And I don't see how the fact that we don't have any rumours of a case change means it won't happen. It seems like something Apple could easily keep tightly wrapped up, as it's not buying cases from case manufacturers, I believe they make them themselves. Also, the Merom update was supposed to bring new case designs, and it didn't.

Well, will we see the new MBP tomorrow? I keep hearing Tuesday Tuesday Tuesday... doesn't seem like we will...

Id like to see Apple bring out a 13.3" Macbook Pro. Essentially a Macbook with a dedicated graphics card and a satin screen option. The Macbook already has the processor speeds of the low end MBP anyway.

Just a thought.

I would be frustrated if apple made a 13'' MBP. It only dilutes the MBP market an doesn't encourage a true compact MBP at <12". Lets just see the 15'' MBP with LED and santa rosa; if you have something else that can be shortened to three letters throw it in too.

Well Apple could put a bigger HDD in the aTV. As for the MBP, it could have free b/g/n, and they could have an optional BD-R. who knows.

The only reason I though of a 13.3 Pro is because i didnt think 12 was widescreen, though I doubt it matters to some people.

Perfect! June 11 would be perfect, I'd order one that day. But Apple better not slack off they better include Santa Rosa.

Ahhh, I need one now! My 2.33 17" MBP was stolen last week and I'm screwed! June 11th is so far away when I'm typing this on a 2" PDA screen with a stylus.
