"Ledge is available via Kickstarter starting at $29 for a single set for the first backers"

Seriously? People need to understand that Kickstarter is not a store! This may never materialize at all. They have received only 10% of the funding they need, and even then backers may never get the product. It happens pretty often. Saying its "available" is just flat out irresponsible.

Over 80% of Kickstarter projects that are FULLY funded are delivered late of their original promised delivery date and a large portion are never delivered on. I'd never invest anything in it that you aren't prepared to wait an additional year past their claimed delivery time and that you can't afford to lose the money on totally.

There's a reason that good business ideas get funded through traditional channels. They end up going with legit production companies that know what it takes to bring a product to market and can guide people through it rather than Kickstarrter where people seem to fumble and do things their own way without the normal QA checks along the way.

this is why I hardly ever look at Macrumors forums anymore.
Severe piling on with a side of fanboy.

About the product, I actually do find the edge of the laptop to be uncomfortable if used when traveling by public transportation or airline. Ditto if I am trying to kick back on the couch with it.
You may simply dismiss it as 'first worlder problems', but I have a history with RSS and nerve damage. I am not trying to do anything that takes either hand out of commission.

Thank you for pointing this out. I used to be very active but rarely visit the forums or comments anymore because of this.

Oh no
Reminds me of those awful wrist guards for snowboarding

It takes more than a catchy name to form a startup... ...no, there isn't.

Most ridiculous accessory I've ever seen for a MacBook.

How to make your macbook look like **** and fix a non issue in one small payment!

while it does look like ass, it's not fair to say its a non-issue. i noticed it immediately on my new rMBP.

----------

I've never heard of this imaginary complaint.

you have now. its not imaginary.

----------

What on earth? They're not sharp at all.

they are. if you don't experience, did you miss the clip of the edge of the MBP cutting thru an apple? a round or dull edge couldn't do that. a sharp edge can.

My compter is too boxy!

First world problems.

guess what - we're reading this site in the first world, using our first world products.

A solution to an issue almost no one has.

evidently you're mistaken -- I've noticed it as an issue, as have the creators of this project.

doesn't bother you? don't back it. easy. but that doesn't mean it doesn't offer value to people other than yourself. the world is funny like that.

I'd be very careful using these on the MacBook pro retinas, as Apple advises against using any Palm rests or keyboard covers, as they may damage the display.

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4384?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

It's a neat idea for the MacBook Airs and non retina models though.

It's not a palm rest... the article refers to keyboard covers and palm resets that reside under the cover when closed. This useless piece of crap sits on the edge.

$29 for one... $85 for two. Not really great math from these people.

This product is coming out way too late. Macbook are getting thinner where this is a non-issue. Besides the sharp edge is just a minor irritant which I've become accustomed to years ago.

Although I like the idea, this thing also looks fugly. They could have made it much lower profile and could have achieved the same ends.

If they came out with this in 08' I might have been interested. Fail.

Fingerless gloves works for me

My solution to the sharp edges is wearing fingerless gloves when affected. Which is whenever I'm not using my MBPr at a desk. i.e. when using it as a LAPtop...

To all the trolls here who say the problem isn't real coz it hasn't happened to them... just because you haven't lost your virginity, doesn't mean sex isn't real.

I found this to be a problem on my 13" to which apple person said "we do have some people return and upgrade to 15", which what I did. Very happy with my 15" and it is Not an issue.

Just waiting on the rounded USB connector to be produced so I don't have to put on my safety goggles every time I plug a cable in....

Chopping the apple was hilarious, but should have been a terrorist cutting off a hostage's hand for more dramatic impact.

The MBP edge forces you to have good keyboard posture. It irritates the wrists if you rest them on the edge for too long. But it's still a "first world problem" and isn't something to spend money on fixing, especially when the product makes the MBP look bulky.

Just when you thought you've seen it all... I've had unibody MBP's since they came out. I currently have a 15" rMBP. Not one time, ever, did I ever hurt my hand on the "sharp" corners. I don't even know how I could place my hands to actually hurt them. I must confess I do like sticking my thumb in the corner when I'm using the trackpad though. It's that very dull pain that actually feels good.

I'm going to kickstart a "bumper" for my MacBook Pro. Any backers?

Edgegate!

You're so 2000-and-late!!

I'm sure whoever is treating you for your rsi has already said as much, but your history of nerve damage is not due to the sharp edge of the MacBook. The fact you feel the sharp edge however demonstrates that you are not holding your wrists up in the proper position, and that is the cause of your rsi. There's a reason that typists using wrist supports frequently get rsi, while pianists do not, and it's all down to wrist position.
