A current 64 bit MacOS version would be playable on ARM Macs because of Rosetta.
Understand that Rosetta is a temporary fix and will go away. Aka no one should be releasing anything on MacOS x86 with hope of it being around in 3 years (this is what got us to the 32-bit issues. Devs were given 8 years to transition). Steam's Source engine (version 1) is a mess of code that has been patched to hell and back. If anything they are working on Source2 (or 3) with ARM compatibility and the only way Left4Dead makes it over is if they re-release it (which means you have to re-purchase it). And I would welcome this option.

Not me, that would be any version of Windows. Plus Catalina was great. If you are so convinced Catalina had all these "problems" can you please list them for me, because I absolutely loved Catalina, very stable worked great.
Oh sweet, sweet high-level languages child.. You have no clue, do you? It's not 100 lines of code Flappy Bird clone. There, go look how serious software is written: https://github.com/id-Software/DOOM-3

I don't know if I necessarily agree with that.

Many developers count on bootcamp to account for some MacOS users sales.

Without bootcamp, there might be more incentive to produce a MacOS version.

That’s not how it works. They aren’t counting on any Mac sales at all. They are all bonus.

We’ve already had two non-intel Mac platforms. 68k and PPC. It was the same then.

ARM Macs will get second hand iOS games and since they will natively run those games, I doubt developers would even bother doing much to make the desktop experience better.

In the 25 years of me using Macs, the best time was the brief period after the intel switch when OpenGL was supported. Beyond some Blizzard games like Warcraft/Starcraft, I can’t think of many games that launched for Mac at the same time as they did for Windows. Those that did were always years late via a third party port.

No one in game dev thinks seriously about macOS. And nobody will spend resources updating an old game to support latest Apple whims. That's why most of legacy software is no go on Catalina. Developers who wanted to sell you games already did and no longer care if you can still play them. Of course the only loser is consumer.

I hope you realise most macOS games are using wrappers and other translation layers. Even Blizzard doesn't release all their games for Mac (Overwatch) and they have quite a history of Mac support. Transitioning old C++ codebase from 32bit to 64bit is not just recompile. Of course it's hard to know that if all you ever dabbled in is Swift and C#.

This is one problem that's still around: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...s-from-com-apple-windowserver.2222878/page-30

Doesn't happen on every Mac, though. I don't see it on the computer I have at work; a 13" MacBook Pro from 2019. So don't know what's going on with that Kernel Panic and what triggers it. But it seems to be software (macOS) related for sure.

Recently installed Boot Camp on an external drive to play some Team Fortress 2 and I gotta say that the constant spinning f my Macbook Pro's fan is concerning, especially since Team Fortress 2 already killed an iMac of mine about a decade ago.

Releasing a 32-bit game/app for macOS in September 2020 is just LOL. I doubt a developer made that call.
It doesn’t seem to be a case of them releasing a 32 bit app, more an update on an existing 32 bit app of which the owner has not updated.

Hoping for a Native ARM port. This game update is huge news for me. This is one of my favorite games of all time. I played online for several years and even started playing again in 2020. Going to update on PC and try out this new level. I really wish a Left 4 Dead 3 (native on new Macs and take advantage of Metal and ARM) would come out and a Left 4 Dead movie would be nice too.

Makes perfect sense, if you want to game, then don't get a Mac. Clearly the publisher didn't see any potential of profit otherwise they would have done the work.

Mac gaming is pitiful and I don't believe transitioning to ARM will suddenly rectify that issue, quite the contrary, it will have a further chilling affect.

I mean, tell that to Apple who is constantly pushing Apple Arcade and went back on their Game Center destruction crap.

And I mean, these things can change. Maybe if some put their minds to it things can be cultivated and markets can be born and grown

Steam was previously only PC but for some reason they put in Mac games and at the time people were overjoyed...

If the people complaining about it, I dunno, maybe they want those games on a Mac and don't want to have two bulky machines. (so a market? ... is it big enough though 🤔)

(pretty much disregard this) Is it some mod mentality or something? There's been times, recently, where I discuss an interesting topic like say the Meritocracy and I'm modded... for some reason (??).... because people don't like to think about things that are "hard"? ;( I dunno... (I don't even remember who modded me, but I highly doubt it was you, this isn't about you, I'm just slightly venting, in this paragraph)

You seriously belive that?
Not just that person, but 18/23 MacRumors forum users agree. It should be noted that MacRumors forum users are an extreme fringe group of people who are absurdly apologetic/sympathetic of Apple, to a degree far greater than any other group that I've found on the internet. If anyone would say gaming on a Mac works well, it’d be them.

All of the major developers that made games for Mac in the past are gone:
- Valve: Basically stopped making games. Seems to be going hard for VR, which Apple hasn't really supported.
- Blizzard: Acquired and stopped making games besides expansions for WoW (do those still support Mac? Not sure.)
- id: Acquired. Stopped making games for Mac.
- Epic: Apple has decided to ban them. Either of them could have shifted their position to make something work, but neither of them did. Epic isn't particularly interested in having their games on Apple platforms and Apple isn't interested in having games on their platform.

The only game engine still developed for Apple's platforms is Unity, and that's really the indie engine - I don't know of any major game studios that use it. Those games aren't generally system sellers.

Let's get a couple things straight for those who don't like (care) to do their research:

-This game is not released in September 2020. Even the headline *clearly* indicates that this is an update, not a new title release. This game was released in 2009.

-This update is not official. It is effectively a sanctioned community mod that has been pushed as an update to the main title.

The predominant population of gamers still exists on Windows. Updating your 11 year old game to be 64bit compatible just because Apple for some reason will absolutely not allow 32bit software is unnecessary.

And we know how valve is with their game development...

I’m pretty sure Maflynn is the one moderator who secretly hates Apple. I’ve seen quite a few questionable posts from him over the years.

My MacBook 16 plays every game maxed out, on bootcamp of course.

I'm sticking with Mojave until I eventually get a new Mac.
It's cool they updated Safari for us. (not a Top Sites user myself ... 😬 )

Sucks we can't sync reminders but... I just use my phone... bit of a slighter hassle but... whatever.

Oh cool... Uh... nothing personal Maflynn.. I guess I just "hooked" unto your message to spew mine. 😅 (Edit: there, edited it to seem a bit less.. hostile I guess. Sorry 😬)

Yes WoW supports MacOS.

On my MacBook 16 bootcamp rig, it actually runs better on MacOS then it does on windows (Mac uses Metal API). This is one of the reason I have hope for MacOS gaming. Metal is amazing.
