This is spot on. Apple doesn't have that magic anymore.
Apple lost the magic for folks that grew up on the Apple ][, then they lost the magic for folks that grew up with the “classic”macs, then they lost the magic for folk that grew up with the iMacs. And, at some point in the future, they are guaranteed to lose the magic for folks that grew up on the iPhone, iPad.

These are generally good things as that means they are continually obtaining new groups of customers that want new things. (When you hear apple says that over 50% of customers for ‘product X’ are new customers, this is why). If a company focuses on keeping one group happy throughout their lives, what happens when those folks are no longer in a position to purchase new products fairly regularly?

At any one time, Apple only needs enough customers that will drive an adequate profit. Which is why, even though they don’t have a worldwide marketshare advantage in phones OR PC’s, they’re the most valuable company in the world.
