I sat my 4s on the roof of my car while putting my daughter in her car seat. We drove downthe road and heard something hit our trunk and my wife turned around and answered my "what the heck was that?!?!" with..."your phone!"

Luckily I had bought an otterbox impact case because it rolled end over end down the highway. We were going about 50 mph and I expected it to be trashed....but only a minor chip on the bottom left that is invisible with the case on it....insane!

Thanks Otterbox!

When you picked up your phone, did Siri admonish you about forgetting your responsibilities and then give you a website where you can find out how to be a better and more responsible owner?

I'd rather spend $200 on a new phone because I concentrated more on making sure my daughter was in her carseat than if something ever were to happen to her because I was more worried about a stupid phone....in the end...it's just a phone.

Good point....a lot of people on here should be saying "Touché".

Its good to hear some real world success/failure of these products we trust.

i did it too

unfortunately i did the same with my iphone 3gs put it on the roof while i got my keys out i also had a defender on the phone but it got trashed you were really lucky :D

Sorry, but you're wrong.

Here is a picture of the phone and case...you can see the phone has a small chip on the bottom left corner from hitting the road, but that's it. I took the picture with my iPad2 so sorry if the quality isn't great.

Here is a pic of the damage to the silicone case. It's a very small cut from the road rash. My phone wouldn't even focus on it.

I bought the case off e-bay for like $7 (you can find them for cheaper)...you can search "iPhone 4s Otterbox Impact Case" and find them from multiple sellers. I won't list any so you don't think I'm some guy just trying to sell the case. I'm just a happy consumer that doesn't have to spend $200 to get his phone fixed.

Also...if you need more proof...my wife wrote about it on her blog...

Yeah, that just makes you look like an "otterbox" employee even more lawl

Believe what you want...but...how would suggesting you go to e-bay to buy an Otterbox instead of paying the insane amounts they charge for their cases be any evidence that I work for them? lol...

You seriously think someone would take the time to create and entire blog....a blog that my wife writes for "mom stuff"....for the purprose of promoting a product that the company doesn't even make anymore?

I left my 2 week old white Macbook on top of my Suburban. It was in a marware sleve and it hit pavement at about 45 mph. It still works. The battery bay is messed up so you can only run it plugged in. The screen has a small defect in the bottom left corner so that the colors are all distorted there. When the aluminum macbooks came out I bought one and put the white one in a drawer. I recently brought it out and my 5 year old uses it to play kids games.
My wife now complains that it takes me a long time to back the car out of the driveway. I make sure that everything I brought with me is inside the car and nothing is on the roof.

I swear by Otterbox cases. I have a Defender on my Gen3 Touch, a Commuter on my decomissioned BB Storm and a Commuter for my 4s. I only put it on the 4s when I think there's potential for a ruckus (like partying or tailgating). :D

Over the years I have developed a set of cardinal rules regarding iPhones. They can be applied to any smartphone... but since myself and a lot of my friends are Apple fans... I call them my iPhone Cardinal Rules. It is very simple. Following them has caused me to never lose or misplace an iPhone.

Cardinal Rule #1.

If your iPhone isn't in your hand, it's in your pocket.

Cardinal Rule #2.

If your iPhone isn't in your pocket it's in your hand.

There are only 2 exceptions to Cardinal Rule #2.

#1 Exception:
If you are home, your iPhone can be left at your charge/sync area to charge or sync if that is consistently the same place you charge/sync. Don't constantly move your charger around your house.

#2 Exception:
If you have a docking station for your iPhone in your vehicle, you may dock it there while driving, but under no circumstances are you to leave your vehicle unless you execute Cardinal Rule #1 or #2.

I recite these rules to friends who leave their phones on the table while enjoying a meal at the restaurant. By doing this, you are just asking for a drink to spill on your phone or to just forget it when you pay your bill and leave.

Another one for guys is leaving it on the top of a urinal toilet while going to the bathroom. Why not just stick it in your pocket while you take a pee?

I agree and take it one step further. When phone is in pocket, it's always in my right pocket. Jacket and pants.

That's nothing. My friend left his buddy's son on the roof of his car in his car seat. But they were robbing the feed store at the time so...

The ThinkPad line. It's made by Lenovo now.

You will never find a stronger consumer laptop. I have dropped mine about 2 stories into a muddy puddle. A small dent and had to clean out the keys and fan hole, but the computer ran like a tank.

I hate otterboxes, but I think I might get one if I can find one that doesn't make the phone look like crap. Also, do they ALL have otterbox written on the bottom? I **HATE** that.

I bought my first Thinkpad about a year ago and they are not that durable or reliable. They claim military spec etc, etc, but that doesn't matter if the thing doesn't boot.
Just sayin.

Don't let the juvenile nonsense get to you. Around here the intellectually weak argument of "oh you must work for #####" is the first line of defense (offense?). Just laugh at the naiveté.... I do! :D

Which model did you get? some of the much newer introduced models aren't very strong compared to the other models, but some of the longerlasting models are amazing.

Damn that Otterbox and not being known for their products at all. I hope they become a successful company that has a household name for their durable phone cases.

I know! If I hadn't heard the employee's story here I wouldn't even know who Otterbox was.

I am sure the 8 hours he spent creating this fake story, and the backstory, generated at least 2 sales. I am in AWE of that marketing program!

Don't feed the trolls.

Great that it survived the tumble.

I'm just a little surprised it didn't make it into the car with you at all though. I'm pretty adamant about not sharing my phone, but it's pretty hard for us to get into a vehicle without at least my wife's iPhone magically turning up in the hands of a car-seat occupant...it would be rare for us to go anywhere without both the phones, since I always ask if she has hers and the kids do too. CONSTANTLY....

I top that.

Had the Otterbox case on, left it on my sisters car when we were playing basketball. She drove off and I hunted for it and found it in the middle of a small intersection, screen facing the pavement, and it was run over by several cars due to the dents and edges on the plastic part. But it was fine and its been running strong since (with an Oakley case).

Thanks Otterbox!

From,
Really excited dude who had to tell the world

i remember when IBM still made notebooks. there were reports of them being exposed to all sorts of conditions and they survived.

I remembered mine, an IBM Thinkpad T42, it was great. I dropped it for something like, 5 FT, and it survived. I even spilled water on it while it's on. Still alive. Not a single repair I gave for that monster.

Exactly. In the end it is just a phone, that is what I say. I will almost always put real life stuff ahead of a phone. It's just a phone it can be replaced, your daughter can't be.

Disgusting....why would anyone EVER set their phone down on top of a urinal. Are these the same people that dont wash their hands?

If you put the phone in you pocket you have no worries.
