Funny they should mention how awesome the hinge is when a Lenovo I used creaked and eventually pulled apart the bottom of the screen. It is now a desktop computer, cannot be closed without further damaging the screen.

Probably no longer relevant, but I had this happen with 3 successive IBM think pads (about 10 years ago) they would last about 1.5 years and the lower part of the hinge would separate from the chassis due to metal fatigue. (I opened and closed these things about 5-10x/day.). Office colleagues also saw this but at a slightly longer mtf than I did.

When IBM sold to Lenovo, our firm moved to HP and we never saw this issue again.

If Lenovo has the same hinge or durability engineers, or specs, they need to retire them.

And what would the marketshare be if they weren't pushing the upgrade every minute? Downloading it in the background and installing it automatically. Optional updates become recommended. KB updates change name and code, but do the same damn thing. Absolutely no way to not upgrade when it's already been downloaded in the background and you restart the machine, unless you shift delete the hidden Windows download folders and it can't install it.

They even promised not to push the W10 upgrade on Windows machines running on a domain, but that quickly went to ****. I can tell you that first hand.

To force Windows 10 down people's throats every which way, then brag about the marketshare, is utterly ridiculous.
Interesting, as ~40% of marketshare is still windows 7. I guess automatic update didn't work out that well for a very big chunk of the population ;) Not for any computer in our company, too...

Plus, speaking of bragging of marketshare on an Apple-related forum, where iOS prompt you to update every time you unlock your device is quite the irony.

LOL, I have to say that was a well made and funny video

The Yoga is a nice computer, though I haven't looked at one lately.

I find it amusing that there are still companies that care about the Mac user market. Even Apple doesn't care about the Mac user market…:D

For the last year I have experienced far less issue with Windows 10 than OS X, still needing to run a full release behind current, as "it just doesn't work" Have no idea where Apple is going with the Mac, equally as sales indicate it`s the wrong direction...

As for the Ad light hearted fun, nothing more, nothing less...

Q-6

At least the Mac's finder always works. I tried to click on my co-workers windows 10 start button and nothing happened. He looked at me and said, "Yeah sometimes that happens, let's reboot.." I hugged my MacBook after that incident....

Yeah. One of my clients has to reboot his system multiple times a day because sometimes it refuses to wake up. Seriously... Like 15 to 20. He does have a MacBook, and told me he really still loves it. Wishes it would run more of the stuff they run at the office. Oh, and he's the CEO.

Publicity stunt.. Mention apple in an ad and it gets more attention

Yes, but they do make a few good points.

Why doesn't Apple have a touchscreen MacBook Pro?

Yet, the ad never mentions the largest reason why I use an Apple product: MacOS.

Just another company trying to measure up to the good things that apple has put together. No, apple is not the most innovative, sleek, or best at everything. But what matters most is my Mac isn't running Windows.

They've obviously never visited MacRumors if they think it's full of Apple fan boys. There's more Apple hate here than on a Lenovo forum.

That's because the opposite of love isnt hate, rather ... it's indifference.

What you percieve as 'hate' is mostly people who are still passionate about Apple, but distressed by some of the directions they've gone.

The Macrumors mention is a dis to Apple, denoting that the company isn't transparent and that you have to go to a website called Mac RUMORS to get any info.

Why would you want a tablet with the keyboard on the back anyway? I had a Windows mobile phone back in the day which was a mini laptop and the screen spun so when used as a touch screen device the keyboard was behind the screen safe from any crap that would have got into it.

Make the screen removable by all means but keyboard facing outside on the back of the device is just stupid and asking for damage.

A mobile phone from 2006 has a better design than the Yoga.

Simple answer, the keyboard is designed with this usage in mind, nor is there real concerns. Some keyboards can lockout with the deck rises adding further protection. Companies have moved away from the swivelling type display as in general it`s a point of failure and difficult to ensure stability of the display in many use scenarios.

Yeah...no, it's not a dis or anything like that.

Sadly, MacRumors is just about iOS toys nowadays. I'd appreciate that fans/rumors sites made more pressure towards pushing Mac interest. But now most Apple fans don't care about the Mac anyway, so nevermind, the battle is lost.

They forgot to mention the malware and backdoors they put into their firmware. That's a feature Apple doesn't have.

Seriously? You really think Apple doesn't have a backdoor access route into every part of there own software?

As for Malware, would think iTunes and Mail are already there, they cause nothing but problems.

It's not hate... it's heart break. Hell hath no fury like a lover scorned... and Cupertino is scorning those who made it it what it is.... or, was??

While I don't trust Lenovo (spyware anyone?) there is some innovation there.... and the only time people diss a touch screen is when its compared to an actual windows product.... otherwise it's "the next macbook should like, do this great thing no one has done before.... like let the screen be an iPad man...." (because that's so different from a surface)

And if Apple quotes that freaking Henry Ford quote the next time they diss what people want again I'll scream. "If he would have asked people what they wanted when he invented the first car, they would have said a faster horse." Yes, because when I say MORE ports.... you know, I really wanted one port and a 2 year old silicone inside for a premium over the current gen chips.

There's lot of good arguments there, but there's two major things that stand out:

It still Windows vs OS X (as well as hardware) and secondly, what's the point with a high res screen on a Windows laptop with the truly awful DPI scaling? That's what sets the Retina display apart.

I'd actually argue that Windows handles scaling vastly better than OS X.

For a few years now, I've had a Mac mini hooked up to my TV as a set top box... (Note: This was before all the vast improvements to the AppleTV.)
My old 40" TV was capable of 1080p, but the text was simply too small to read so I'd have to use 720p instead.

Yes, most apps support scaling text, but OS X itself doesn't.
(Meanwhile, Windows has had this for a while.)

I even have a new 65" 4K TV, and with the mini running at 1080p the text is still kind of small at any decent viewing distance.

All the "HiDPI" mode does is the basic 2x scaling. There's no ability to scale the font separately from everything else.

Could I switch to the less powerful, less functional AppleTV?
Yes, but then I wouldn't be able to use standard OS X apps.

Agreed.

I mean, that's why Apple is able to brag at WWDC every year about how most of its users are always on the latest version of iOS.

The whole Windows 10 push is an attempt to prevent Windows 7 from becoming another XP.

It's got to be really difficult to sustain development on a new OS when your most experienced developers are constantly having to fix issues with a 10-year-old OS.

The thing is though, you stick your Windows computer into that 65" TV and sure, you'll get your dynamic font scaling. The only apps that would be guaranteed* to be scaled properly would be UWA apps. You'd get sick of Windows DPI scaling very quickly. Apple's 2x approach is a much better approach. It's not even something I'd need to be a fanboy to recognise.

Strange, I'm running a 27-inch 4k display at a Windows 10 desktop PC, scaling set to 150 %, and it's just wonderful. The only horrible thing is software not being developed properly for this Windows scaling, and indeed this might be more complicated than on the Mac platform. Anyway even most Open Source developers have made it by now.

But you know who has NOT made it? Apple. iTunes on Windows still looks blurry on a high-res display.

Right-click on the shortcut to your application that has blurry fonts, then select Properties. Then tab Compatibility. Then enable Disable display scaling on high DPI settings and hit Apply. then restart your application, and you see it will look good.
