Wow yours coming before mine that I ordered two weeks ago...
Did you order a customized configuration? I took one of the stock models, and it was here a few days later.

Well I started the thread and finally ordered one from Costco. Comes in next Weds or Thurs. Hope it works out for me and I can sell the 2018 15' MBP.
LOL, but this thread has been extremely useful for many of us. I said early on that if Lenovo rolled this out when I was buying the MBP, I would have opted for that. The issues with the MBP pushed me to sell mine (before any problems arose), and I'm happy I did. Good luck on your order.

Mine was a Costco preconfigured. Shipped from MD and I'm in NC. Three day UPS. Not the ideal configuration but I like the 90 day return policy which I'd rather not use but it's there, and a warranty extension at no cost.

Being able to upgrade the RAM/SSD down the road makes a choice for a pre-configure much easier to deal with too, were with the MBP you have to think so much about cost today vs future needs, etc. and sometimes panic and go for the higher of the two configurations. Which of course is exactly what Apple wants you to do.

Well, I'm really happy with my X1E. Only regret that I have is not getting a 4K panel.
Besides that, this little thing is a beast. Not even one issue so far. I have Win10 on one SSD, and Pop_OS on other SSD. Both work like a charm.

Keyboard is simply the best keyboard on any laptop. PERIOD. Nice port selection from Lenovo, and the feel of the chassis is the best thing to me. Feels way better then any MBP.

I would just like that in the future they make a bigger trackpad, but they will never get rid of the 'nipple' and 3 buttons that go with it. It wouldn't be a thinkpad without those things I guess.

The 4K panel (or lack thereof) is the one thing that gives me pause with the Asus Studio S as well. After using retina and better resolution for so long, I am just not sure I could get used to the FHD displays again. I worry I would regret not having 4K.

My plan is to purchase a X1E 4K screen when I find one, and then to install it myself.
Problem is, they aren't available yet. Or I can't find them :(

Going on 1/2 a week of usegage and at the risk of jinxing myself, not a single BSOD. I used the Thinkpad all day yesterday, playing Fallout 4, doing some work, and other tasks that I had done last week and over the course incurred BSOD (prior to the reinstall).

Wiping/reinstalling windows is looking promising, I'm probably going to load the rest of my apps that use that find helpful, i.e., phraseexpander. I'm still debating whether to live with Microsoft defender coupled with MWB. Since my work relies on Microsoft Defender for our windows 10 machines and they're pretty fanatical in making sure workstations/laptops are using anti-virus, I'm leaning to keeping things fairly clean in that sense.

The 4K panel is really really nice!

Anybody has used X1E with 4K screen and i5? How is the battery life and fan noise? Is it better than models with i7 CPU in terms of batery life and fan noise? Any jet engine noise issue?

Any jet engine noise issue?
my i7 doesn't have any jet engine noise issue, so I would say the i5 would be even quieter. The fans still sping up on occasion but overall the laptop is quiet. I think we have different definitions of quiet and Jet Engine, and you may not be happy with any laptop that uses a fan. Watching videos, even 4k, will cause the fans to start, and the temps to float in the upper 50s and lower 60s but its not bad, but like I said. I think what I deem acceptable and what you do are different.

When my fan ramps up playing games and the system is on full power mode, hearing the fan does not in the least bother me. Again, as I have mentioned before, I don't understand the word used "Jet Engine" to describe what some hear. No, it's not silent, but it's no jet engine either. Just a soft whooshing sound that is audible, but never intrusive nor irritating.

No question if I start pushing the laptop (and games are a great example), the fans ramp up. I keep Throttlestop's window up on the laptop display and play my game on my external monitor and the temps float in the mid-70s, maybe into the 80s. I've not played any game recently so I'm going on memory now.

I've had my fans on full bore and its been kind loud no question but not jet engine loud.

Is it silent when browsing the internet or coding etc?

That's the thing that bothered me. Sometimes they would ramp up for 4-5 secs for no apparent reason.
But undervolting + thinkfan solved that. Now they only come on when they have to. And I have my x1e connected to 2 external monitors most of the time.

I see we need to define the meaning of "jet engine" noise. Here is a video that shows what I have been calling "jet engine". Just like a plane taking off and landing.

My machine alternated between dead silent and this kind of noise even I was not playing games nor doing computationally intensive stuff. Very annoying. It drove me crazy.

One time, this just happened non-stop in the library when I was running Pop!_OS. Just booted to Linux and jet engine noise was generated. Was going on for about 5-8 minutes even no intensive work was done nor no youtube was on. People were looking at me. I just turned it off and left.

My X1E doesn't get that noisy, but without tweaks, there is noise without any reason at all. Not even close to this level of noise, but enough to annoy me. But tweaking fixes all of that.

Well, sorry to hear that, but I'm using pop_os as well. And under linux tweaking has no limits. Your fans on X1E are easily tweak-able, you have some pre made profiles online as well. And under Pop_OS you can even turn off nVidia GPU when you don't need it. I get much better battery life under Pop_OS then I do under Windows, something I find interesting, since I never managed to get better battery life under any linux distro when compared to Windows.

But things change, and Pop_OS under fast and great improvements. I just hope they can keep it up.
