that's ridiculous.
most ppl have no clue it's coming out and they wouldn't think much of it if they knew.

apple products need advertising like everything else.

I'd be willing to guess that most of the adds will be AT&T

You'd be surprised. I still meet plenty of people who've never even heard of the iphone.

It's big news to geeks. Beyond that, it needs advertising. Another phone launched? Non-geeks simply don't care. That's like asking me to care about who the release of a new mercedes.
I do not know about that. It must depend on your area. Here in Southern California it is more known than the first one from my personal experience. I attend a UC school (high population) travel to many areas, and deal with investment clients on a daily basis. When the first one came out I had lots of people asking what it was... and I heard people ask if the voyager was an iPhone. Now almost everytime I pull my iPHone out in public someone either asks if I am getting the new one, or tells me they will get the new one. Interesting side note: lots of adults have been telling me they will not only be getting any iPhone but want to stand in line or have a kid stand in line for them.
iPhone 3G is huge in the areas I am in (San Diego, Inland Valley, Orange County, Riverside County) sure it is the same else where.
I agree, most of the people we interviewed have no idea that 3G iPhone is coming out let alone what 3G is, and the interview wasn't done in one of the wealthiest area in SF Bay Area
10 person survey explains the knowledge of the iPhone 3G? The fact that the people who do not know about it were coming out of an Apple store is probably good for Apple. Considering most the people I know getting one never go to the Apple store... halo effect.
Maybe Apple is trying to figure out how to trump the Instinct? Those comparison sure is embarrassing for iPhone users whenever its shown.

Instinct is just a good way to hold sprint customers and satisfy those who are stuck to that network or dont have ATT.
You read the reviews and you will see almost every analyst says the above and that ATT customers wont switch over.

and then there is the measly 2%... http://www.appleinsider.com/article...ective_smartphone_buyers_eying_iphone_3g.html

We went to see Hancock last night and I thought there would be an iphone ad. Perfect opportunity but I think we'll see one from wednesday.

There was a Telstra Next G ad though.

As an aside Hancock is a very interesting film.

Apparently there are lots of hidden cryptic meanings. If you watch it as Hancock a metaphor for America it takes on a whole new meaning. It doesn't make a lot of sense otherwise, it doesn't seem to go anywhere and seems a bit pointless. BUT if you bear the America as Hancock anology (his symbol is an eagle for example but he doesn't know what it means) then the film starts to become clear. He's a superhero (he thinks he is the only one in the world-there is another one and which country this is I wonder ?? The other superhero wants to blend in forget his/her superhero powers and live a normal life. But the other one is far stronger than Hancock) who lost his way and causes way more collateral damage than the actual crime.

However, he means well and just wants to help but doesn't know what his purpose is as he lots his memory 80 years ago. I can see this film gaining a cult following as people work out all the clues. His cell wall doodles are full of mysterious symbols, pyramids, more eagles other things I don't recognise. All good fun and maybe they don't mean a thing but it will get people going.

I am not American so it may more sense to you guys.

Apple doesn't care about if we have our contracts with other carriers in order. If they did, they would have offered incentives for coming over to AT&T, such as paying our ETFs, or at least giving us a credit on our statement equal to the cost we'd incur by switching carriers. Do they want lines? Sure... but they know just as well as we do that the only people that will get in those long lines are the fanboys that will already know about it because of forums and other online means. The every day consumer is not going to line up to get a new phone. They'll find out about it when it's available and go grab one when they get a chance.
The fact still remains that they do not want to advertise it until you can actually purchase it in some form or another. This is proven by the fact that we still aren't seeing ads. Until we see ads, you can't dispute what I'm saying, as it makes sense.

iPhone ads plastering the TV. Who needs to get their crap straight now?

The ad that Stevie showed at WWDC will likely launch during primetime this coming Monday or the following Monday.

told ya so. i work in advertising, so i had a good hunch they'd start today or next monday. for future reference, most new major advertising starts airing on monday, unless there's a big event (super bowl, oscars, olympics, etc.)
