Apple has placed a straight-to-series order for "Lessons in Chemistry," a 1960s-era drama series starring actress Brie Larson, according to Variety. The series is expected to begin streaming on Apple TV+ in spring 2022.

The report notes that Larson will play Elizabeth Zott, whose dream of being a scientist is put on hold due to gender stereotypes:
Set in the early 1960s, "Lessons in Chemistry" follows Elizabeth Zott (Larson), whose dream of being a scientist is put on hold in a society deeming that women belong in the domestic sphere, not the professional one. When Elizabeth finds herself pregnant, alone and fired from her lab, she musters the ingenuity only a single mother has. She accepts a job as a host on a TV cooking show, and sets out to teach a nation of overlooked housewives – and the men who are suddenly listening – a lot more than recipes, all the while craving a return to her true love: science.
The series will be based on the upcoming novel of the same name by Bonnie Garmus, and will be written and executive produced by Academy Award nominee Susannah Grant. Larson, Jason Bateman, and Michael Costigan will also serve as executive producers.

Larson is best known for starring in "Captain Marvel," and for her Academy Award- and Golden Globe-winning role in the 2015 film "Room." In 2019, it was reported that Larson would star in another Apple TV+ series based on undercover CIA operative Amaryllis Fox, but the project is said to be on hold as Larson focuses on "Captain Marvel 2."

I love the language of "finds herself pregnant." Like she wasn't an active part in that happening. Not much of a scientist if she can't even figure out how birth control works (or is dumb enough to have sex with a guy that won't use it).
She might not've been an active participant, her birth control could've failed, or you could be reading too much into the phrasing in some Variety article.

The phrase is “finds herself pregnant, alone and fired from her lab”. Cutting off the phrase at “finds herself pregnant” makes “alone and fired from her lab” ungrammatical. She wasn’t in control of the other two circumstances.

In the middle of several books.

Before passing judgement, why not give episode 1 a try? Life doesn't come in a neatly wrapped package.

Never said she was in control of those.
In that case, consider that being all three of those at the same time would be especially unfortunate, and so it would be a bad situation to “find yourself in”, hence the phrasing?

In other words, what the sentence was trying to say is “When Elizabeth finds herself in an unfortunate situation — pregnant, alone and fired from her lab — she musters the ingenuity only a single mother has.”

WHY??? why does every Disney Actor get their own Apple TV+ series? Just BUY Disney! LOL
WHY? Why do some here keep saying Apple should buy Disney? Is Disney for sale? Does Apple need to own everything to a point that it's monopolizing the industry? Buying Disney doesn't mean Apple would do it justice. Steve Ballmer taking the CEO position at Microsoft nearly destroyed Microsoft.

scientist — a person learned in science

So, she’s forced out of the library and not allowed to read Darwin.

Shes a bad actor and this show will suck
She's a great actor who won both an academy award and golden globe. Not that I hold any weight to awards, but she has been great in the few movies I have seen her in (Kong, Room, Unicorn Store). If you thought she sucked in Capt Marvel, Maybe take it up with the director or the writers who wrote the character that way.
