i prefer the rounded edges - far more comfortable in the hand that the very harsh, 'sharp' corners of the 14 pro/max.

I actually find the 14pro max uncomfortable in the hand and put it in a case as that makes it much better.

And for those of us who never had a rounded bottom phone, we don't know the difference!
How lucky we are! 😀

iPhone 13 Mini is the best phone I've had in a long time.

Fits perfect in my hands and I have a good grip due to the squared corners.
Much, much better, then the XR with rounded corners, that I traded in when I bought this.

Please never go back to rounded corners.

I love the look of the 12, 13, and 14 model iPhones. I have loved my 12 PM, 13 PM, and 14 PM. The nostalgia for the iPhones 4 and 5 will always be strong.

But I picked up my son’s iPhone 11 to update it this evening, and it reminded me what a better experience swiping up to unlock and go to the home screen was on the rounded glass of the X, XS, and 11 models. It just feels so much better.

Anyways… love the look of a flat screen and edges, but Apple needs to go back to at least a rounded bottom screen edge.
Damn right

Call me crazy but...you'd think that Apple would have learned from selling so many generations of iPhone that need to have a case on them in order to be comfortable to hold and not break when dropped from 4 feet.

Shouldn't we be building the case right into iPhone? Shouldn't the thing be designed to be held? And dropped?

I think the minute Apple figured out that selling accessories like cases brings a lot of money, they designed their phones hand in hand to nudge people to buy cases as well. I mean Apple went as far as making a transparent plastic case, which was usually considered to be the lowest/cheapest case (cases that are usually included for free). All in the name of making an extra buck from customers.

It brings me back to what the late great Norm MacDonald said about iPhones. They feel like a bar of soap in your hand. And I agree.

They are designing products that sell accessories. They aren't designing ergonomic products.

If Apple designed protection against damage into the phone they would be setting themselves up for more responsibility when that protection failed to protect the phone against drops and damage.
You would also pay more for the phone.
Then people would complain that they don't like the way it looks, and cant "accessorize" around that.
As it is, you have your choices of thousands of different cases, designs, protection levels, colors, materials, personalization..................

Look at the numbers of comments in all of the "What kind of case did you get for your..............".
Industries have grown out of this, people are employed, you have choices.
People LOVE it!
What's wrong with THAT?

The flat edges of the 12/13/14 seem (anecdotally, to me) more difficult for people with mobility issues to interact with.

The swipe up gesture is already difficult for some — just watch a senior citizen do it. Not unusual to see people exaggerate the motion, almost comically so.

Rounded bottoms you say?

I prefer the rounded edges as well, but it doesn't really bother me because my phone is always in a case.

Apple really dropped the ball when they didn’t make cases for the XR. It was the best selling phone for a long time. And so many color opportunities.

Maybe there's a rounded phone case somewhere? I'd rather please keep the existing form factor, it's stunning and feels easier to grip, I just wish for the weight to be under 190g for the pro models. I used an iPhone X for a while and I appreciated the lightness, but not the form factor, feels too slippery, and just doesn't work as well as the iPhone 14 for my hands.

And folks seeing me using iPhone XS Max caseless and they worry I’m going to drop the phone at any moment because of the rounded exterior.

The device I use a lot nowadays however, in terms of iOS device, is iPad Pro, which has flat edges at the front and only mildly curved edges at other sides. I guess everything is just relative.

Regardless, I’m ok with flat or round edges. No preference. When the case is on, it doesn’t even matter.

Interesting, honestly I could go either way, both formats have their pros and cons.

While we’re critiquing such matters I’d say what’s more important to me would be to get rid of the dang camera bulge so it’s not so wobbly on a table … even with many cases… not a fan of that!

For a second when I saw this thread title, I thought this was going to be about going back to rounded bottoms like on the 3G and 3GS and I was about to be like

I prefer the look of the flat sides, but I’m all for making the phones more comfortable in the hand. That was one thing I noticed between the regular and Pro models is how much more comfortable the regular iPhones felt in the hand compared to the Pros, even though they have the same flat edged design.

The Essential PH-1 had the flat front and back with flat sides like the current iPhones do, but it was the most comfortable phone I’ve ever held. I wonder if they slightly rounded the edges which is what made it so comfortable despite the sides being flat.

Emphasis mine.

If this is true, and I cannot say one way or the other if it is or not, then it's not working in my case (pun intended).

I have never looked at an iPhone and said to myself "I need a case for that!"

Just never going to happen.

XR was just too big IMO, I upgrade from XS to 13 Mini and I'm not sure which was more comfortable. XS fits my hand just fine.
