Emphasis mine.

If this is true, and I cannot say one way or the other if it is or not, then it's not working in my case (pun intended).

I have never looked at an iPhone and said to myself "I need a case for that!"

Just never going to happen.
Sure, if you have the comfort level of going naked, that's completely up to you.
But it doesn't change the fact that Apple is leaning towards a device that needs protection in the name of premium feel/look, especially compared to older phones that were more plastic/rubbery in their materials.
Some examples from my observation:
1. Using glossy finish that are prone to fingerprints (Jet Black 7, glossy glass back, glossy stainless steel frame on the Pro iPhones).
2. Using glass back.
3. Slippery rounded design of the 6 to 11

One way or the other, most users probably are nudged to get a case to keep their phone looking good at the least. It doesn't help either with the increasingly larger phones that are harder to hold. A normal customer would think "oh, I'm afraid the glass back and front might crack if I drop my phone, better get a case." The fact that Apple literally enters the case accessories market themselves seems like the tell tale of business decision. 😆

11 pro = probably overall best iPhone IMO. Great size, and I love that design. Put a full screen with no notch on that phone, make it aluminum to keep it light, and it wins.
Agree. The 11 Pro imo was the last almost-perfect size and weight. It's too bad that Apple went to larger 6.1" design with 12 Pro onward (probably to save cost and streamline production with the same sized non-Pro models).

With most people slapping a case on their phones and apple going for aesthetics / image I would bet that's not happening anytime soon.

I love the look of the 12, 13, and 14 model iPhones. I have loved my 12 PM, 13 PM, and 14 PM. The nostalgia for the iPhones 4 and 5 will always be strong.

But I picked up my son’s iPhone 11 to update it this evening, and it reminded me what a better experience swiping up to unlock and go to the home screen was on the rounded glass of the X, XS, and 11 models. It just feels so much better.

Anyways… love the look of a flat screen and edges, but Apple needs to go back to at least a rounded bottom screen edge.

I think the minute Apple figured out that selling accessories like cases brings a lot of money, they designed their phones hand in hand to nudge people to buy cases as well.

Totally. The way the camera protrudes these days, it looks like it was made specifically to have a case on it. The minute you put one on, suddenly the camera is flush with the back and you can set it down normally on a table.

I hate the flat sides on my 13, very uncomfortable to hold. There is no use in me buying a new phone unless it has rounded sides.

We should come to a compromise and return to the iPod Classic shape... flat-edged front, round-edged back

Glass screen protectors do not fit well on the curved glass. Too much wasted space. Flat is my vote. Those that like the curved edges, there are curved edge cases available to give you that feel ov the 11 and older.

We had 3 years of rounded edges before Apple switched to flat edges for 4 years, and then back to rounded edges for another 6 years. We just started our 3rd year of flat edges again.

iPhones have had 9 generations of rounded edges compared to only 7 of flat edges. It’s only fair we get a few more years of flat edges before you get your rounded ones back again.

If a case goes on a "rounded bottom" phone, doesn't that negate the benefits of the "rounded bottom"?

Much prefer the current design. To me it just looks and feels better than the rounded SE2 which I have from work

Oh!
I wasn't involved with smartphones of any kind until last year, now I'm curious about the history & progression.
Thanks!
:)
