Since when does Apple, a company who values secrecy, announce new/exclusive features of the new iPhone months before its released?

60fps was already announced at WWDC. It will be available for iPhone 5 at 720p, and 1080p on the 5S (just a hunch).

For a company that values secrecy, they're doing a piss-poor job at it.

That may be true, but it's not like they would place an exclusive feature for the next unannounced iPhone at an official company keynote.

That would be like at WWDC 2011 Apple stating a feature like "Personal Assistant" months before iPhone 4S was announced. It doesn't make sense as in, they're announcing a feature that their current flagship iPhone can't run & they are giving away vital information about the next iPhone months before its released.

Just keep your expectations low. That seems to be the mantra with Apple anymore.

Can't see it being quick reply, simply because of the short amount of time that devs would have to optimise their apps before the release, if you look at history, none of the exclusive software features on next-gen hardware is reliant on developer support. If it was coming in iOS 7, I think it would've been shown at WWDC. I'd like to be wrong though.

Direct upload to the new NSA warehouse.

That's the datacenter they use for iCloud already, isn't it?

My guesses: no more physical buttons, maybe just a physical on/off button. Improved camera hardware (better lens, better CMOS), quad core CPU @1.5GHz, interactive widgets on springboard or interactive icons on home screens.

I wish:
dual led 12 megapx camera
NFC for wireless charging
LED for notifications like s3, s4 has
More resistant against screen cracks

I think a better camera is a given, as every new phone model has a better camera in some way. So I don't think that will be the key differentiator for the new model. All the hype over the fingerprint sensor is almost so big that it has to be likely (and fits with the whole "S" theory, though there have only been two "S"s so far, and two is a coincidence, three is a pattern, so we'll see). I think there is a decent possibility for NFC based payment too. The public (i.e. stores) haven't really jumped on that wagon yet, but the same was true for Passbook and we're seeing more and more companies utilizing that. NFC would make sense as it seems like in a few years it will be very common, so giving vendors a year or two to "catch up" and allow that form of payment to be used would follow the same progression of the Passbook apps. Also, with Keychain being added to iOS 7, I think that lends some credibility to the fact they may be moving in that direction.

I don't think there will be any huge OS differences between the i5 and i5S that will cause people to say "I need this new device," but there may be a few small ones.

A couple of high profile folks have claimed a fingerprint sensor is coming from a "Cupertino based company" this year. Of course they could be wrong, but I reckon a fingerprint sensor and a mildly new shape is quite likely.

Leave the bigger screen though please Apple. It's perfect as it is.

I would like to see it have little plastic covers so I can scuba dive with it. I would also like the screen to be 6.3 inches and a stylus. A blinking light so I know when I have a message would be cool(who needs to sleep). I would also like to watch 4 different videos at the same time and a laser pointer would be cool.

You can have a blinking light when a message comes in

Settings>General>Accessibility> LED flash for alerts.

I think that anything significant (fingerprint scanner, NFC) will be reserved for the next gen phone ("6"). The 5S, I think, will have a faster processor, better camera (but only maybe) and improved flash (additional, tungsten colored LED for rendering better color from the flash).

- iWatch support; updated apps and notification preferences to support iWatch
- iTV support; updated Remote app to support additional iTV features
- Allowing apps to replace default applications
- More live icons, but still not open to app developers
- Siri enhancements

I'm betting against fingerprint scanner. I can't think of a feature that would be less exciting to the average consumer; it will not sell phones.

My bets are:

- 12mp camera with dual color flash (more of a iPhone 5S thing)
- Quick reply from notifications
- Live icons (the bugs in iOS 7 showing screenshots instead of icons seem to point at this)
- Offline dictation

That blinding flash isn't really the same thing as subtle notification LED though. It flashes briefly when new notifications come in and is on the back of the phone. The value of a normal notification LED is that you can immediately see if you've missed anything without turning on your screen.

I've always wished the white square on the home button would "breathe" the way the power LED on MacBooks used to.
