This forum just needs A LOT more moderation and bans to people to set an example to others. It really is amazing how little this forum is moderated, its like a free for all. I'm a member of a few other forums and a moderator for one and none of the other boards contain as many insipid comments and insulting posts from members as MacRumors does. Its really a shame.

If someone has owned an Android device and shared their experiences of say, switching over to an iPhone (differences between OSes, pros and cons), that's perfectly acceptable, in fact, I like reading threads like that.

HOWEVER, if someone comes here to tell us why Android is so much better without even using an iPhone, that's just a stupid biased opinion that should be ignored.

Coming onto a website named "macrumors" is pretty self explanatory. It's all about Apple, rumors, and their devices and software. Comparing the two is OKAY, but again, no one needs to hear why a new android powered device that has "1 GBz of Rams, omg itsz so kewl, s0 much better than an iPhone *". (Just for the sake of it, hardware isn't everything if the OS is total crap).

The sad fact of forums is that there will be trolls, no matter what topic. I use many forums and they're everywhere. You just gotta ignore them

I have been apart of many forums other than this one, very large popular forums, and MR is definitely the least moderated I've ever seen.

You are just flat out wrong

Easier said than done, some Apple people feriociously defend the iPhone while putting down Android calling it crap.

Android people just want to see how iPhone people will react to the new phones and comparable operating system.

As long as the mobile systems aren't universal, their is no end to the hate unfortunatetly.

I am neutral as I do not have iOS or Android.

I kind of have to disagree where you are placing the blame. Android people are coming to a Mac forum to post about Android. Thats where the pot begins to get stirred.

Some of us are multiplatform and up for the discussion, refuting some of the BS spouted by others with less/no experience with the platform. Is that not welcomed here?

From the responses I'd have to say its not really welcome here.

iPhone users don't need to be "saved" with knowledge of other platforms. If an iPhone user wants to know how the iPhone stacks up against XYZ android device or wants to learn about Android they go over to Xda or Androidforums or AndroidCommunity or DroidLife or AndroidSpin or AndroidPolice or Phandroid or Android Central and ask...

I think that due to the fact that the iphone is one of many smartphones we should be open to the occasional comparison between the platforms. I learned in college that you have no knowledge of English without another language to compare it to. How do you know that iOS 4 has a poor notification system without seeing different systems. Occasional not the dozens of threads on the Samsung Galaxy S II. However the issue is not the threads but rather when people respond you don't have to join in those threads. If you see the op is just trolling then don't reply they want you to say something so they can argue with you. I am also a member of android central. We never have these issues (we have an iOS section for them.)

That's basically the point I was getting across. I think it's fine.

No. What we need is more post reports. If you see people breaking the rules, please report the post instead of replying to it. Every single post report is handled by a moderator and actions will be taken if necessary. No matter how many mods there are, we simply cannot read ~10 000 posts which are posted in MR everyday.

A question to all mods. How detailed do our reports have to be? Mine are usually 1 or 2 words unless I feel a longer explanation is really necessary, is this alright for the mods or is a longer explanation better?

That will be fine. Usually the problem is obvious and we can contact you if we need more information.

Yup, that is fine like OllyW stated above. No matter how short or long the explanation is, we still have to review the whole case (i.e. the post and relevant posts) and possibly user's prior troubles. My post reports were always very short before I became a mod :p It's better to do many short ones than spend a long time on one report IMO.

I understand and didn't mean to sound like I was bashing MacRumors, it really is a great forum. But there really are too few mods for the size of it. Just my 2 cents.

Six new moderators were added yesterday. Currently there are zero pending post reports. Basically, that means we have nothing to do. The time it takes to browse through threads and look for rule violations is astronomical, thus we mainly rely on post reports.

Again, if you see a rule violation, even if you weren't 100% sure, please report it. That way the thread will get mods' attention and we will do clean-ups if we find that necessary :)

How about a little troll icon next to the up and down arrows and if enough people click on it, a food icon with a circle and slash through it appears in the post. :D

I think one think that everyone here can agree on, despite preferance in mobile OS, Manufacturer is that we all like tech. I think we should respect that we all will have differing opinions when it come to tech. Stop insulting people simply because they like something else.

We are talking about software 90% of the time on this forum and it is important to know that software unlike hardware can not be Quantitave but is always qualitative. In essance not nothing can really be proven better. Its your opinion that something is superior then another but that does not mean you should insult someone and their opinion.

Also if you want to get rid of trolls. DON'T FEED THEM. It is easy to notice a troll thread on this forum. What I don't understand is why is it it takes forever for people to stop feeding it. When someone insults Apple, the iPhone don't jump out to defend them. You are just Keeping the thread at the top of the board.

The ignore button works miracles.

The people I can't stand are the arrogant entitled people who come out saying how stupid and horrible Apple is because they didn't include some obscure and idiotic feature that the poster wanted. Or they say how something is broken or stupid because they didn't read the release notes. I hate stupid users.

and i hate people that up on their high horses and are condescending to people, but everyone is different on the internet, we just have to ignore people we don't like.

sadly that would not work. I find the negative votes depend more on if you are anti Apple in any way it is automatic hate.

Personally on this one people complaining about Android post I count at least 4 post that are pure android bashing from the thread title right now at first glance on the first page of iPhone forums.

Condescending means talking down to. :D

while I agree iOS vs Android comes down to personal preference, it is absolutely true that their are cases where software can be superior to other software. For example, 2 algorithms that churn out the same result could be entirely different, and one could be faster and lighter (less code)

Seems like the rudeness has gone way down from several months ago. I agree with the supposition that Droid proponents come on here to cause trouble (I think most must be teens or younger), but I see a lot less of that after the antenna gate non-issue finally died down (non-issue to me and most owners of an iPhone 4….not going to argue about that).

The "issue" never happens for me during regular use, and I can only get it to drop about one bar with the "Death Grip". :p Maybe I'm "holding it wrong". :D
