I pay $1,050 a year for full coverage on an Acura TLX. I carry maximum insurance limits with a $500 deductible.

The TLX is already out? How is it?

I pay roughly the same amount for a TSX through Progressive. Not sure what it's going to do when I get my WRX next week. Probably go up a bit.

LOL. No, I must have had it on my mind as I just read about it the other day. Should have said TSX.

Geico customer almost 20 years. No one ever comes close to their rates.
Rates fluctuate. I have GEICO now, but at times when I've shopped around, Progressive or Esurance have been cheaper for the same coverage.

State Farm actually screwed me over after being with them for 21 years. Clean record for them until I had 5 claims in 2 years, all of them legitimate, from car break-in to burglary to collapsed ceiling to an idiot running his car into my house without his license. After that last one, which SF handled on it, they dropped my multi-line policy, saying that I was 'too high of a risk to insure'. This after being with them since I was 16 years old, with no claims to my name until then (which was 2 years ago).

Real nice 'good neighbor' thing for them to do, isn't it?

Yeah, I have a similar story. And, while I did meet my agent a few times in her office, mostly I dealt with her over the phone. It doesn't matter where the person you're talking to on the phone is sitting.

I shop for rates and haven't found better.

You've had GEICO for 20 years. So how often do you shop around? Do it monthly, and I bet you'll eventually find a lower rate. But, keep doing it, and GEICO will regain the crown. I only shop around if my rate goes up by what I consider to be an exorbitant amount.

I've shopped around several times over the years, not monthly and not even yearly. Not once has anyone came close to the rate that I get from Geico. I don't know why they are lower but I'm not complaining.

Hmmm, I just got some quotes. Geico is less than what I currently pay Progressive, who is still cheaper than All State and State Farm.

I like Progressive though, they've treated me well. I wonder if they're like cable companies in that I can call them, threaten to cancel, and get some discounts.

I usually shop them once or twice a year when I get a renewal notice.

I've been happy with Progressive. The snapshot monitoring device gave me an even better discount on their already good rates. I've tried a few times to get quotes from Geico and never found them even close to competitive....don't know if it's my state or what. Had a claim once with Progressive where someone hit me in a parking lot. The claims agent was in another state, but I could always call and deal with the same person and they handled everything professionally.

I've been with State Farm since I started driving and I don't think I've ever had a *real* need for a live agent. Everything I've done could have easily been done via email/live chat with an online-only company.

That said, I'm still with State Farm because they've been the cheapest for me. I've gotten quotes from several providers each time I've moved and none have been able to give me a better deal.

I had GEICO for about 16 years and had one claim in that time (not my fault). My rate kept going up, and up, and up over the last three years I was with them. Switched to Progressive, they were nearly $300 cheaper over six months (two cars), and their customer service has been better.

I guess it all depends on a lot of things; every driver is different.

After reading this, I ran a check again. Progressive is far more expensive, I don't know why but USAA is about $120 less for the six months (two cars). I may be switching.

It varies widely from State to State. In my State, Michigan, we tend to have much higher premiums than other states. I pay about $1,400 per year for a new Ford Fusion.

Michigan going to no fault and also the health care fund really screws over our premiums.

Call and ask them to match or bridge the gap. They most likely will.

I shop around every 6 months. I've had no claims in 9 years (25), so I have no brand loyalty. I just quote using the exact same coverage and see who has the best price.

Two years ago, it was AAA for a year. 6 months ago, it was Geico by a long shot. Now it's Esurance, but the difference is ~$10, so I'll probably stick with the gecko and talking pig. My buddy with Geico had to file a claim (winter accident - just his own car) and had a great experience.

What I love is how wide quotes range. 2010 Ford Focus SES: $600-650/6 months with Esurance/Geico/Progressive (in that order) to $1,400/6 months with All State.

I pay over $2000/year for full coverage on my Altima with Nationwide.

I have two vehicles with full coverage on both. I've had one accident in the last five years. I was not at fault but my insurance had to pay under uninsured motorist. No violations in past five years. 48-years-old, divorced male is only driver.

Vehicles
2003 Lincoln Navigator
2011 Toyota Prius

6 month premium with Geico $906.20
6 month premium with USAA $853.35
6 month premium with Progressive $2060

All are with 25/50/25 Liability, $500 deductible on Collision/Comprehensive. I don't know how I upset Progressive so much. Geico, I've had for 15 years. (25/50/25 is low for liability but I have an umbrella policy with the company that does my homeowners.)

That's another interesting side to the equation - how much coverage does everyone have?

I have full coverage, 100/300/100 liability, and $99 deductibles on comprehensive/collision. Deductibles were $499 each until this most recent hailstorm that totaled my Expedition.

!!!!! I pay under $1,000 a year on a late-model Subaru Outback. $500 collision deduct., add-on for OEM parts when it gets repaired, 50/100 I think (probably should up that), full glass coverage.

I pay for my car in Boston which is a 2013 Jetta and its 850 a year. Full coverage and $500 deductible.

I also pay my parents car insurance for a 2014 Nissan Sentra that is around $480 a year they live in CT.

People seem to look for the lowest price and skimp on coverage. All's it takes is one major accident (your fault) where people are hurt to exceed your coverage. Skimping on coverage is foolish especially now when everyone sues.

But what is your liability coverage ? Full coverage (covers any type of accident) is not nearly as important as how much liability coverage you have (i.e. You get in an accident and it's your fault. The accident is covered but, the insurance will only pay a small fraction of the cost due to getting cheapest low liability insurance).

That's the purpose of an umbrella policy. Surprisingly, my umbrella policy does not require higher limits. It is through the same people who insure my house.

About $900 a year for full coverage on a 2013 Jeep when I had it. Almost $1200 a year on my current 2011 GTI. Oh, and $300 a year fo full coverage on my 2006 Harley Softail. :D

Pricing of insurance is regional. It may well be that a given company almost always has the lowest rates in some locations.

I insure my car and motorcycle through State Farm. Mainly cause they are the cheapest for me. Only had one claim when my car was hit and damaged while parked overnight. They took care of things quickly and smoothly. No complaints so far.

100k insured, 300k not insured. My Jetta is leased so I have to have decent insurance. My dads is higher he just a senior citizen and doesn't really drive much plus lives in the boonies.

I have the following:
Bodily Injury Liability - $100,000 per person/$300,000 per occurrence
Personal Injury Protection - $500 deductible
Property Damage Liability - $100,000
Property Protection - $1,000,000
Limited Property Damage - $1,000 per occurrence
Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury - $100,000 per person/$300,000 per occurrence

Comprehensive Deductible - $250
Collision Deductible - $500
Emergency Road Service
Rental Reimbursement - $30/Day, $900 Max

All for $615/6 months on a 2010 Ford Focus SES with GEICO in Michigan (no fault). I think last time I checked, it's about 40% cheaper in an at fault state (Ohio).
