Medeco locks are very high quality locks, hard to pick, hard to drill. LPL could pick this electronic lock in about 5 seconds.
You know what is easier than drilling or picking a lock? Breaking a window, or using a crowbar on the door frame. I do not know where you guys live, nor do I know how valuable the items in your home are, but I am guessing you are not real targets.

I’m keyless and bought an August smartlock. Sure it’s got a huge thing attached to the lock inside but I have two of them and it cost me less than one of these.

I personally do not have a locking handle. You can just use a "closet" handle.

got my house this year and the builder put in door handles(knobs below deadbolts) with keys.... I'm too lazy to get around to changing them to those handle types..... :)

I have a Yale/August smart lock, which has made my life so much easier. Being able to assign lock codes to certain people, and assign time frames when a particular code will/won’t work, being able to unlock the door from anywhere using my iPhone, being notified when the door is left ajar, having it lock automatically after a time frame I choose, and having it unlock as I approach, among other things, all mean it was worth the ~$200.

$330? Eek.

But I honestly recommend smart locks to most people. It isn’t just a matter of not having to carry a key. You can get any keypad dumb lock for that. I’m disabled, and if it only allowed me to unlock the door from my living room, it would be worth it.

When the RFID car key doesn't work, I have a backup real key in my pocket. You'll still need to carry keys because this one will fail at some point.

Between my phone and the card in my wallet I already have redundant systems for using my car. I don’t need a third level by carrying a key. To each their own for levels of “what if”, but for me a redundant system works for everything else in life, not really worried about it with my car. With my house I will have my phone, my watch, possibly a pin pad and a hidden key box with a combo, so quad redundancy. Keys are not something I need once I swap my door lock.

i owned their previous version it sucks; it has no strength and the lock is inefficient when it comes to actual locks as it’s battery is inside the deadbolt. not worth buying just because it looks nice

I think Apple Home Kit has to the the SLOWEST technology rollout in history. How many years ago was Home Kit introduced (2014)? By any standard HOME Kit is a failed marketing rollout. Sure it relies on external partners to bring the products but industry collaborations don't take nearly a decade. Technology moves much faster than that.

Yes, I was wondering what quality lock you are getting for this premium price.

I have 5 Medeco locks on my house and they are made like tanks. And they cost about $200 today.
Paid $154/ea back in 2007.

My problem is, that i don't trust any of these locks to always work as expected and i would always want a backup key option. Which would mean i either have to hide a key somewhere or still carry one around anyway.

As a level lock user for over a year now, do not waste your time. The lock is absolutely horrific. It has a mind of its own.

This is 110% true. I’m using the key 98% of the time because the touch and “smart” features are so buggy.

Does anyone have experience with this company and their products? I used Lockitron way back in the day and I would say our results were mixed at best. I was hoping to pick up the Schlage lock since the new one is HomeKit/Key compatible but stock has been an issue for a while. It is also much larger than this one and utilizes a keypad on the outside which I don't need. I will likely just wait for the Schlage unless there are a lot of good experiences with this company?
I’ve had the level touch for over a year.

It blows. It literally does whatever it wants to the point where without the key I’d have been locked out.

Wanna use your finger? Nah doesn’t feel like working today. Okay, wanna unlock with your phone as you’re literally standing at the door? Nah doesn’t feel like working today.

It also reboots itself whenever it wants. And yes, this is a replacement lock.

Yeah, I (unfortunately) have a Level Touch. Wish I never bought it. Unreliable as all F***

It's supposed to use Bluetooth to unlock the door as you approach - works less than 10% of the time

The touch feature is also ridiculously slow (you may as well get your keys out).

And, yes, we just use our keys - unless we forget them, then we use the Home app to unlock the door. (I've forgotten my keys several times when walking the dog) :)

Only feature that works well is the auto-lock after 30 seconds (default interval).

BUT - with iOS 16, the Level has had a lobotomy - it's confused as to which side of the door I'm on after I'm home. Typically 15-20 minutes after I'm home, the lock auto-unlocks, then auto-locks again (per the 30s setting).

Support is non-existent. They'll tell you to pull the battery (reboot) the lock as that's all you can do. No apparent line to dev support to report bugs or make product suggestions.

Also awful for battery life. The battery that shipped with it only lasted the first month in. A brand new Duracell replacement? 3 months. You would expect a CR2 battery to last a lot longer than that.

Still on the fence about putting the old deadbolt back in and trying to sell this on Craigslist to get some of my money back.

Edit: The reason we went with this lock? It looks like a regular deadbolt from the outside - our Strata is extremely strict about everything looking the same - so, no smart locks that don't look like all of the Schlage and Weiser locks are allowed.

Edit2 (just to add a little more credence to all this) - I've worked in Technology almost 30 years - managed Dev teams at BlackBerry - started my career at IBM. So, yeah, I know a little bit about how things SHOULD work - and realistic expectations for radio ranges, etc. The folks at Level COULD have done something amazing with these locks, if only they put the legwork into developing decent software!!!! (and, yes, I'm including the firmware in the locks when I say software)

That’s almost as expensive as buying a heavy duty door system that has 14 locking rods with frame included, plus 12 keys including temporary keys for initial renovation and service. It has optional fingerprint sensor at nominal cost of $50.
Really? Can you provide a link to such a system For that price?

What HomeKit gear do you have? I have iDevices and Ecobee thermostats, Lifx and Nanoleaf bulbs, TCL Roku TVs, Meross outdoor plugs, Schlage locks and various other things, and I have not had any problems.
Philips Hue light bulbs, Meross smart switches, Sensi thermostat, iDevices, MyQ (HomeKit hub)
