Wish this had thread, that would’ve made this announcement perfect!
According to their CTO, the hardware is there and they expect to add it. However, I would not buy it with the hope it gets added later. If it does not do what you want now, wait until it does. :)

Agreed! Because all Level Lock Touch owners (myself included), felt that the hardware could possibly be there for HomeKey, and lo and behold, that doesn't appear to be the case. Perhaps not confirmed yet, especially since the Lock+ hasn't yet been OFFICIALLY announced, but it's increasingly likely to be the case.

Is anyone making a lock that does not have also a traditional key? Picking a normal door lock takes seconds. Additional ways to unlock just decrease the security from there.

I would buy this lock:
  • Always (99.999%+) automatically locks the house when door is closed
  • Opens up with iPhone / Apple Watch
  • No support for voice assistants. Yelling "Hey Siri, open the front door" is not exactly secure.
  • Mechanical key backup that is not possible to pick easily (for example Assa Abloy makes some secure locks)
Does anyone manufacture such a lock?
Ok, do you even bother researching before asking questions? On your very first point the lock you're commenting on does that, as do almost all other smart locks. Opens with iPhone/Apple Watch? Again any smart lock that has an iOS app. Prevents "Hey Siri"? Again, all the home assistants take steps to prevent that. As for not being pickable, what about a lock that doesn't even use a key? Yale makes one with a keypad only. What happens if the batteries die? It has contacts on the front where you can hold a 9V battery to it to power the keypad long enough to open the door (but still requires the use of a code).

Medeco locks are very high quality locks, hard to pick, hard to drill. LPL could pick this electronic lock in about 5 seconds.
I don't understand this obsession with the Lockpicking Lawyer. Sure his videos are entertaining, but are you expecting him to show up and rob your house? Criminals aren't watching his videos to learn how to pick locks.
With how buggy everything has been with HomeKit I’m ready to dump it all and go all in on Nest.
Nest is the very definition of abandon-ware. Don't switch to them. The HomeKit story should get better now that Matter is being released.
If you live in an area where people are picking your lock to break into your house while you are home, you should have an alarm system, and probably consider moving to someplace safer. I would love some statistics as to how many break-ins there were in your area where people were home and the lock was picked.
This. There were a couple robberies in my neighborhood recently, but they didn't get in the houses by picking the locks. No, they just went around looking for cars parked on the street that weren't locked. SEVERAL of those cars had keys to the house inside them!! Criminals aren't going to waste time picking the lock to your house when they can just go get the keys to your neighbor's house out of their car instead.

Lock Picking Lawyer will have fun with this. Most electronic locks he reviews are really bad in how easy they are to pick or get open in other ways. I wouldn't be surprised if this had the basic security of a Master Lock. They seem to put all their tech in an electronic future and forget basic physical lock security.

For me, I prefer the entrance to my house where I sleep to have good security. I trust my Medico locks over convenience of waving my watch near it. Also when electronic locks do fail and they will, the physical key is needed anyway so has to be available.

I was trying to find the grading on their web site, but it isn't clear how secure these are. I think compared to Medeco* locks these will not compare at all. Ditto for Mul-T-Lock. They look cool, but aren't very secure.

I still don’t see this on their online store…
Seeing how it is neither on the Apple Store app nor on Level.co's marketing or store pages, I'm betting wires got crossed in the distribution channels and these products did not get held until its announcement date.

Looks like I just needed to wait a couple more hours. It seems like it is in their online store now, but actual in store availability is still sporadic (either because they haven’t been stocked into their system yet, or they actually don’t have them yet)

You know, I'd have considered this for my parents as a gift...then I saw the $329.95 tag in the second photo.

A Schlage deadbolt is like $30.

Are enough people really gonna spend $330 on a door lock in this economy to make stocking this worth it?
And a Schlage smart lock is $300...

Some sad news. From a YouTube video some months ago by LockPickingLawyer, BosnianBill retired. BB transferred his remaining supplies to LPL.
Thanks for sharing. Been a while since I last watched either of their videos. Surprised to hear of the quick exit... hopefully they are in good health.

Exactly.

Americans in particular are PARANOID about someone breaking in at night, while they're home asleep. That's also the reason justification why many Americans sleep with a gun on their nightstand. While this is completely based on paranoia and assumptions and not in fact based on actual facts.

There's literally statistics out there that confirm all of that.

Burglars hardly ever actually break in at night when someone is home. The risk of waking someone up is too high. Different story, obviously, when the house is vacant. Which it is much more likely during the day (or when you announce for the entire world to read that you're going on vacation).

Burglars will not ever spend a ton of time actually picking locks if they can avoid it, especially not locks that are front-facing/easily visible to neighbors. They'll go around and try doors/cars and go for the easy ones.

If you live in a sketchy area - get an alarm system. Get a camera. Get a dog. Those alone deter almost all burglars. Unless you're being specifically targeted...then maybe it's time to consider some your life choices (including showcasing all your fancy luxury items for the entire world to see).

I lived in a quiet (aka not a lot of traffic), residential neighborhood a few years ago and the house across from the place we rented got broken into. In broad daylight. By smashing in a side window. They were targeted specifically and only jewelry was stolen. Go figure.

Maybe watch less TV. Real life isn't like in the movies and shows...

This is the last straw with our Level Touch. Unlogged unlocking of the door. (it was unlocked when we returned home, so the lock didn't log me unlocking it with my key, as it already was).

Level.jpg

It's bad enough that the thing is lobotomized and thinks we're outside when we're inside (ever since iOS 16), but now the lock is unlocking itself and not logging it. Done.

And, yes, given Level's lacklustre dev team, you really shouldn't expect anything better out of their newest iteration.

$329.95??? Man, HomeKit must have margin to the moon. Here's the old-fashioned deadbolt with 4.5 stars from over 6K ratings on Amazon...

View attachment 2094960

I know it's a monumental nuisance to carry a key and use it- how did all the generations before ours get by without HomeKit locks???- but one could buy 22 of this type or only 1 of the other.

I like convenience as much as the next guy... and I'm not exactly cheap (I paid WAYYYYYYYY up for a loaded Mac Studio Ultra)... but this seems more like robbery for anyone willing to be robbed.

The irony is that probably when you buy enough of those for the various doors in a typical home and you pay up for the typical mix of up-to-date Apple goodies, there's probably little cash (or non-vital organs) left over for the bandits to steal. ;)
Thieves won't even go inside. They'll find a way to take the lock and sell that

There's a lot of talk about convenience here, but having a digital lock is helpful when you lose your keys, or somehow lock them inside. Level has a few products, starting at $199, this $329 is a higher end model. $199 isn't terrible if you're getting locked out often enough when compared to locksmiths. $329 isn't terrible if you're constantly losing your keys either, but I'm more worried about your ability to hold a job and earn enough to begin with 😂
But if you have a deadbolt you can't lock yourself out unless the doorknob locks too, and then you're SOL anyhow without the key. Unless they make digital doorknobs too

He would pick it in seconds it has a standard key core.
Ahh so it's a digital with a crappy physical lock? That's the same crap as four super deadbolt with a pine door or a door with glass. You are the weakest link...goodbye!!!

You called it:

To everyone: do not buy! This lock can be easily opened in seconds. For security, do not use this lock on your house!

Is the video implying that by changing the lock cylinder that we can get around the lock picking? Was one suggested?

The most valuable things in my house are my family and myself. Noisy break in will wake me up and I have other protective security measures to handle that if I am awake and aware. What I care about is silent entry when I am asleep and an easy to bypass lock makes that easy.
Yes most criminals unless you are being specifically targeted don't want a hassle to steal. They will go up and down the street pulling car door handles and trying doorknobs

Yea read that they target homs with a fence high enough to block sight but low enough or insecure to break through. And then they can break into the house at their leisure. And the other is never put car keys right by a door or window.

From how I understood it, you can change out the cylinder since it is a normal mechanical lock on the inside. He did not suggest one.

Looks like they are enabling thread radio in ALL level locks!!!! Thread/Matter AND homekey!!!

As a Level Touch owner, where did you see this? Genuinely intrigued, but kinda doubting this because then wouldn't that render the Level Touch+ completely pointless?
