Second, "Retina" is a made up term by by Apple. It means Jack.

It has a precedent, so it doesn't exactly mean jack. Everyone knows what you mean when you say retina. It's not like we've never seen an example of a retina display before. So while in the world of display standards it may carry no definition, in the world of Apple products it means a lot more than "jack".

But yeah, the last 2 have been retina....there's no reason to assume the next wouldn't be. That's just worrying for nothing.

Last year it was funny finding people discussing their new iPhones, then going back and looking through their old posts where they said they were never buying the 4S, it wasn't even a decent upgrade, they were switching to Android, yada, yada, yada....:D

Uh, I thought we all ready knew about this, you know.... the next iPhone was said to be in production for the past month or so?

Hopefully Apple learns the lesson. Kudos to Samsung for not rolling over and playing dead.

600 kilo gorillas simply don't play dead - not without ulterior motives. Despite looking like fools to foreign press, Samsung are clever, but diabolical. They've held South Korea under their iron regime for over 20 years so that you can't even get a coffee without Samsung being in the supply chain.

Ditto shoes, groceries, apartments, life insurance, cars, health care, rides at the amusement part, etc., and so on. Apple are messing with an overall entity who is larger than they are, but whose public, international face, is just kitschy electronics.

When you put it that way, Apple must have some serious stones for going up against. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

So glad Apple is slowly moving away from Samsung. Other companies like Sony, LG and Sharp are playing much nicer with Apple. Hope Samsung, one day, learns the lesson.

well, remember, LG is another big Korean eletronic giant. you never know what Apple will do **** around. I can't trust apple anymore. this company will be going down.

LG oh yes...

The company we all rush to when we want to buy the very best quality TV or computer monitor that's on the market!

(and yes I'm being sarcastic here)

Up to 90 percent only for the display, not the entire tablet computer. The entire tablet computer requires 60 percent less power, if the manufacturer replaces the "standard" display with the IGZO-display.

Where are people getting this 90% nonsense from? IGZO displays get somewhere around 30-40% power reduction compared to traditional IPS TFT. This is achieved because the cells are more transparent, so more of the backlight can pass through, thus a less bright backlight is required for the same perceived brightness.

As for LG, they've been showing off their own technology called AH-IPS which has some of the same advantages as IGZO.

4" diagonally? No increase in real-estate? No sale here then..If the screen is not bigger I will stick with my 4S. It will run IOS6 and I see no point in buying a device with the same screen however thin it might be. Saves me ££$$ for my Mac Pro though...( if they ever release a refresh with Thunderbolt)

This time i'll let the "'beta testers" check this new displays first ;) Buying on launch day is asking for trouble ;)

You guys do know that LG has been the main iPhone display supplier for years now, right? They have been the main supplier of LCD displays at least since the 3GS days.

It's like suddenly people forgot all the other long standing component suppliers outside Apple. Even now with 4S, depending on your luck, you might even get an iPhone that has no Samsung part other than the A5 chip.

where did this "need" for bigger screens come from? i dont want a bigger phone in my pocket.

If Apple can make a Retina display for a 15" MacBook Pro, definitely it can make a 4" version of it for the next iPhone.

It seems that Apple has started to make its move. And the long wait will soon come to an end.

This is the start of who got a yellow screen..whos screen is too blue?? Which manufacturer

Pretty sure apples sales of iPhone will do fine without your purchase

Too right. First it was cool to go small, now we're going bigger again? Sounds like a bit of a con in order to get the consumers into a never-ending cycle of keeping up with the times. I think the current screen size is perfect.

Think it's more to do with the evolving nature of how we use these things. They used to be phones, nowadays they're portable laptop/web browsing/video devices so slightly larger screens are preferable. I think 4.3" seems to be the largest size before it starts to get cumbersome, 3.5" could definitely be bettered without too much increase in overall size if packaging is done well.
