This won’t make a difference at all. The panels are made according to Apple’s specifications, and Apple’s hardcore quality control will probably make Samsung vs. LGs panels indistinguishable.
Didn't make their lcd panels indistinguishable, or the Qualcomm/Intel modems, or...

Apple's specifications and QC didn't help LG properly shield the 5k monitor. I think Apple is doing a small scale "volume" production because they know there could be a difference.

Just 400,000 panels? That’s not even a single day’s worth of iPhone sales. Seems inconsequential, unless you are an LG stockholder, and even then it’s a relatively minuscule amount of revenue.

Apple’s history of visually distinguishably panels in Macs doesn’t support this assumption.

If LG can get their OLED manufacturing scale up to compete with Samsung, that could lead to competition, which could lead to lower component costs.

Whether that translates to lower iphone prices for consumers, it debatable. I would imagine that the price of the next Xs/Max would stay the same. However, if the OLED components costs are falling, that would allow Apple to include higher cost components, while keeping the price the same, and keeping their profit margin healthy.

My thoughts exactly.

It's not as if there off the shelf panels that Samsung and LG have already made. They have been made especially for Apple, to Apple's demanding quality control.

Yes, this will certainly reduce cost of production for Apple, but we all know that Apple won’t allow this cost reduction to trickle down to consumers. It will trickle down to... oh yeah, margins.

They are supposed to be $90 each, so that is a massive amount of 36 million dollars. Not enough for production, and too much for a trial.

OLED-Info is reporting that these LG panels will not be put into new phones but will be used for replacement parts. If you don't want an LG screen - don't drop your phone!
That makes more sense.
