Although I agree with you with the buying without expecting much support, the problem is that even newer TVs didn't have AirPlay. AirPlay was opened by Apple so others could add it and LG decided to do that. This all started in 2019,
why would they not give it to very recent models?.
I get you, but even after purchasing it in September 2018, I wouldn't have expected anything. The TV manufacturers are notorious for dropping support quickly. Especially if the features won't make them any money.

You don't need an Apple TV anymore. It's an App directly on the TV, like netflix.
Theoretically, yes. In practice, I personally disagree. I have 2 TVs (an LG OLED and a Samsung LED). The LG has an Apple TV 4k. The Samsung has the Apple TV app built in. We bought the Samsung, thinking, "Oh! Apple TV baked in! One less device to connect!" OMG. We both hate it. Navigation is terrible compared to the Apple TV 4k. Perhaps LG's version of the ATV app will be better, but I can't imagine that being the case, as it's all the same app. Also, having a dedicated Axxx chip to run an ATV piece of hardware is, as of right now, infinitely better than whatever garbage processor Samsung (and I can only assume LG) puts in their TVs. My opinion is that for now, a dedicated ATV device is leagues better than a built-in app, and it is worth every penny of its exorbitant price tag.

Hi Forum members, I too signed the petition with LG a while back, I have a LG 65SK9000pua 2018 model tv. I have received the update for AppleTV app on the tv, but still nothing for airplay 2 and homekit as promised by LG, so I wrote to LG asking when airplay 2 will be updated. The following is LG Canada reply I received yesterday

Hello Jeffery

We appreciate you reaching out to us regarding this matter.

We understand that you want to enjoy your TV with the Airplay 2 feature but Apple has set the feature to only limited models and the model that you have is not compatible with Airplay 2. You may refer to this link to check compatible models: https://www.apple.com/ios/home/accessories/#section-tv

LG is committed in providing the best customer experience and would greatly appreciate any other additional feedback you may have regarding LG products and services. If you have a few moments to spare, a Feedback section is also available at the bottom of this email that you may use to rate and send us suggestions to better improve our services.

Based on this I am guessing LG has no plans to update their ”premium “ 2018 tv with airplay 2 or home kits contrary to their promises to do so!
This is very disappointing and confusing any one have anything to add or share?
Thanks

FWIW - Apple's own website shows Apple TV app and Airplay 2 support for 2018 OLED model TVs among other LG models. Based on Apple's device list, it looks like SK9 series will get the Apple TV app but not Airplay 2 support.

That's good. I believe the 2018 LG OLEDs weren't listed last time I checked (months back).

Well that too bad that LG backing down on it’s commitment of Airplay2 for its 2018 premium Non oled TV’s. That’s just wrong!! when it’s probably just simple software update

The new software for the latest Roku players has support for Airplay 2. This makes this a moot point. The Roku 4K Stick + is $29 on sale. The airplay 2 works better than the built in airplay 2 on one of my newer LG TV's which has it built in and Roku is much better than LG Web OS. I was not willing to pay $169 for the Apple TV for Airplay 2, but $29 is a no brainer. I was tired of waiting for the upgrade for my two LG 75 inch 4G TV's which I bought in 2019 but did not know were 2018 models.

Well I'm disgusted that my LG OLED 2017 will not have Homekit support. I don't need Airplay because I have an Apple TV 4K. However, I would like to able to use Siri to operate the TV. What are the chances LG will eventually include this functionality to the 2017 OLED models. It's too soon for me to have to buy a new TV!! I paid handsomely for this TV back in 2017. I get only 3 years worth of time before I have to buy another TV? That's crazy!

Basically zero.

So don't buy a new TV. It sounds like your TV is still doing what you paid for it to do in 2017.

Ok. So we have 22nd of December now...

They have claimed a month ago that this update (for OLED 2018) would come "later this year"..

9 days and counting.

Not arrived on mine yet dam, think I was one of the 1st to get the CX update last week, but my C8 is back of the line lol

Well Good News!! Just received software update (05.30.10) for my 2018 sk9000 model and now have AirPlay 2 and HomeKit capabilities !!😀. LG is living up to their commitment to implementing these features on their 2018 TV’s.
