Woohoo... get in there. I got a UK in the model number. Got a 2018 days before they announced Airplay 2 for 2019 TV's. Was gutted! Signed that petition and now LG have stepped up, finally.

So much back and forth on this. I don’t believe it until I see the actual update show up on my C8.

Is this an old announcement? I got AppleTV in my LG (OLED55B9) about 2 months ago, almost the same time that I bought it, there was a Firmware/System upgrade that I downloaded.

exFAT support on external USB hard drives, please LG!

My 2019 Samsung 58RU7100 has it!

Truthfully, it's probably superfluous to me, since I use an AppleTV box anyway. The time this might come in handy is when I move this 65" C8 OLED to another room, after replacing it with a 77" model. ;) However, that's probably not for a couple more years or so.

B9 is a 2019 model. That was always expected to get the update. The 2018 models like the B8 and C8 weren't initially included. Now they're targeted for an update in 6 months.

Wow, shocking for LG. They’re known for not updating. Woohooo! Glad we’ll be getting the update.

I have had several Samsung TVs in the last 15 years. Just plain fantastic!!!! Zero issues whatsoever. Never had a LG but every time I compared both Samsung won by a mile.

I hope they can make a firmware update for existing models to enable this. Or just sell a hardware upgrade kit for that. A TV screen is not something we can just replace because we want a feature upgrade. I think we must do more to decouple the display and the surrounding technology stack.

Apple sells a "hardware upgrade kit"... it's called an Apple TV.

I looked at LG screens in the store and they were so bad. Such a blurry display and the air gap between front glass and panel is massive causing shadowing round the edges. It seems you have to pay more for the "nanocell" versions to get a panel more comparable to Sony/Samsung budget models that don't have air gaps.

Its very obvious you have no idea what you are talking about.

Love Ambilight, but gave up on Philips last year. In December purchased LG C9 and WOW I'm impressed. The display itself is incredible (especially love the 120Hz VRR gaming), but most importantly - the WebOS UI is fast, beautiful and extremely easy to use. The LG Magic Remote is stratospherically better than the utter garbage Apple TV touch remote (I've had every ATV) and, because the C9 was updated with AirPlay 2, HomeKit and Apple TV+ app - I no longer need ANY extra devices and control everything with one awesome remote.

Kudos to LG for updating older devices, but I feel they should do more - definitely some 2017 models could also be updated. But either way - they are totally the leaders in TV field, imho.

hi there just to confir does this tv have AirPlay 2, HomeKit, Apple TV app?

thanks

It was never worth waiting for...Apple TV box is still the way to go to access all features.

Clearly you have never used the LG Magic Remote versus the dumpster fire Siri remote that the Apple TV comes with.

This is absolutely worth waiting for - for me. I only use my Apple TV when absolutely necessary - because of the remote user experience which works for us about 50% of the time if we are lucky.

I love using all the apps on my LG OLED - because they work well and they are controlled by a fantastic mouse-like remote that has never lost connection - and I don't have to deal with some weird finicky touchpad thingie on it.

In my opinion, the last few years have seen Apple do and create some un-Apple things (in my opinion), but the Siri remote is the pinnacle of their bad deeds. How that ever made it to market is beyond me. Particularly sad, as the Apple TV 4K itself is a great product.

Of course I have! I have 3 LG OLEDS including a 2019 with Airplay 2..you can't access your library other than purchased TV/Movies. I did say all the features of Apple TV and didn't deserve your pointless rant!

true, but we lose the native TV features, such as possible DLNA support

You paid for smart TV already when you bought the TV, now you have to pay for Apple TV again.

So switch between sources, like we have to for Blu-Ray, game consoles, etc.

Actually it's the opposite. The Smart TV paid for the TV. The TV makers get significant revenue from companies like Netflix for stuff like the remote buttons, but also they sell your viewing habits to advertisers using the automated content recognition software built into every TV now.

I have a C9, it came with AirPlay support out of the box but I have to tell you that it is very jittery for anything video related. Audio-only seems fine but LG has some work to do on the video front, my 4th generation AppleTV is on the same network and has none of these issues.

you’re able to cast media from your device to your LG B7 using HOOBS? Like Apple TV stuff? Interesting...

No, I have an TV 4k. I would never use Airplay from a non-apple manufacturer, I heard its buggy as hell, so, TV 4k is for airplay and stuff. I was talking about HomeKit functionality, I have the TV in HomeKit, can switch inputs, can use the remote on the iphone/iPad to turn volume up/down, I can use Siri with the TV and I can integrate the TV with homekit scenes, automations etc. (for example, I have a scene, when I switch my PS4Pro on, the backlight (hue) turns blue and if it is after sunset, the other light get dimmer.)

The Apple TV app is also coming to the 2018 LG TVs:

"New for 2020, the Apple TV app allows customers to subscribe and watch Apple TV+ and Apple TV channels as well as access their iTunes video library and buy or rent more than 100,000 films and TV shows. Customers with 2018 and 2019 LG TV models will also be able to enjoy the Apple TV app this year."
