I placed my order for the LG UltraFine 5K Display today. Did anyone else order this? My order status says it ships in 6-8 weeks (Delivers: Jan 12 - Jan 26). I'm sure Apple "key accounts" are sucking up early supplies of these displays, explaining the 2017 delivery date.

It will be my first experience with an external monitor, so look forward to having expansive screen real estate. Also ordered a wireless Apple keyboard from Target, which offers a 15% discount today.

I know the 27-inch LG display has 228 ppi, equivalent to the MacBook Pro. The early reviews have been very encouraging. :)

Long wait for sure. I have a 27 inch NEC wide gamut display now but it's starting to get old. I'll wait till next year obvious to maybe switch it out. You can't order it now it seems

  1. Considering it was removed from sale it was probably a mistake that it went on sale.
  2. My 4K UltraFine display was meant to ship in 5-7 weeks. It arrived after 2 weeks.

I was wondering this. So, if it went on sale by mistake, does Apple acknowledge the orders
Or cancel them? And how does a product 'Accidentally' go on sale? Seems strange to me.

I managed to get my order in too before it went away.. Hopefully it'll ship MUCH sooner than January....

Interesting... has anyone had the order cancelled, as it clearly must have been a mistake to have orders open only in US/Can (and not EU/ASIA) for a few minutes?

I managed to order one. I got an order confirmation email from Apple, but when I look at my order history on apple.com and the Apple Store app, the order is not listed. I have not gotten an order cancellation email.

If you paid with Apple Pay, it won't show up in your normal orders list. Open the email you received and click the order number to see status.

What happens if you try to manually look up the order using the web order number from your email and your email address?

I spoke with an Apple sales person and they told me the item went for sale but sold out quickly. So I don't think it was a mistake. Pretty big bummer I missed out, it must have been on sale for only a few hours.

I hope that sales person is wrong.... I mean we're assuming that a large number of people we're constantly refreshing the order page and all ordered the moment it went live. Considering how few members here we're even able to put it in for order before this went back to unavailable. I for one jumped on that Apple site as soon as I saw the Macrumors update but it was already too late.

Also, I would think that even if they were 'sold out', Apple could just push back the delivery date for later orders like they did for the MBP (i.e. I was in the "3-4 weeks" batch whereas a lot of members here were in the 2-3 weeks).

I agree... selling out like this makes no sense. I seems more like someone just goofed and went live with the order process too early.

Just chatted with Apple Sales team and was provided with:

"So while I don’t have any concrete information aside from they are unavailable due to the demand, I can say I saw something similar to this with the iPhone 7 Plus
They’ve not listed anything as far as when exactly it will be back up, but I can say that the site is updated daily, and inventory is usually updated in the early am hours
You can always feel free to pop back in here to check and see if we’ve been given any other updates as well, we are here from 7 am until 1 am eastern time"

I'm getting really frustrated with Apple. I talked with tech support today as I received my 13" TB MBP yesterday and couldn't figure out why the connection to my 23" ACD kept dropping after 30 seconds (DVI to USB-C adapter). I was told that because my 23" ACD was marked obsolete, there was no further support they could offer me.

I did pay with Apple Pay. Using the order number link shows my order as 'Processing', with the original 6-8 week shipping estimate I had when I placed the order. Thanks for the tip!

This also works. Thanks!

I agree I hope they were wrong as well. You bring up a valid point, why they just don't sell them and push back the delivery date. I just hope the price can stay at the cheaper $974 and not raise to the $1,299 price tag when they go on sale again. Let's hope it was a mistake and in early December they go back on sale.

I'm trying to decide to get one. I have a 27 inch NEC wide gamut display now which is really nice for my photography. I need the big RGB gamut and this LG looks to have it but this delay is killing me on deciding to get it.

That's a tough call. I'm using an old 23" Cinema Display (aluminium) and when Apple first announced the screen I completely wrote it off but now my main reasons for upgrading are:
  1. Take advantage of the promotional pricing (i.e. if display can't be ordered in December at the discounted price, I'll probably be looking elsewhere)
  2. Convenience of USB-C. Having 1 cable to my MBP will be great. I'll be velcro-ing a USB-C to USBC 3.0 hub on the back of the display to attach my other devices (external hard drives etc).
  3. 21.5" Ultrafine 4K is too small for my needs and the USB 2 transfer speeds are a deal breaker.
Good luck!

Yea if we can't get the discount I'm out. I would like the ports as I can hide a lot. I have a ton of stuff hooked up to the laptop. Be nice to off load some of that to monitor . I would most likely run the printers and such off the monitor not so much my 4 external drives

If you're not running high speed devices from the monitor, have you considered the 21.5" screen? Perhaps that's a moot point as 21.5" may be too small for your needs...

Comcast pulled a bait and switch. They 'advertised' $70 gig service with no caps in Chicago. By the time it was available in Chicago that promotion had 'expired' and we were left with $140 with another $50 to remove the cap. Yep, a 271% increase. Thanks Comcast! Freaking dirtbags. Everyone thinks Apple's greedy? They should try to deal with Comcast.

With that said, Apple's not Comcast. If it gets towards the end of the month and we still can't order it, I'm more then sure they'll extend that pricing into next year. At this point in time, manufacturing the monitors is on LG. Not Apple's fault if they can't produce them fast enough.

Yea I like the 27 inch screen size
[doublepost=1480626227][/doublepost]I do agree if we can't order this month Apple will extend the discount. It's really unfair we can't place the order so they should extend the discount

Fingers crossed.... Apple does disclaim the discount with "Subject to availability; quantity limits apply. Pricing effective 27 October to 31 December 2016" so they could always say "Well, the screen wasn't available".
