Had some problems this morning with my displays. Normally I come into the office, plug both of them into the MBP with the screen closed, and after a few seconds, everything connects and both displays work.

This morning, I plugged in both displays, and nothing on both monitors. I unplugged, tried plugging again -- nothing. I disconnected both cables, opened MBP screen and still blank (though touchbar was on). Closed / opened lid, noticed screen was all black except for top half inch which was flickering. Move the mouse cursor, and full display is operational again. I give it a restart, plug both displays in -- still nothing. I try the other USB-C port, one at a time, and now the display works.

Not really sure what's going on.. but I'm thinking it's the cables. Will have to try with the Belkin cables at some point if this keeps up.

10.12.4 just dropped any one have a chance please see if this fixes the display issues.

I am actively trying to get one of these.

I just don't want to land in software hell with it

The camera and all USB-C ports on my display dropped again when on a Skype call. I was hoping that the update to 10.12.3 would resolve this, but it didn't.

I encounter this problem every time I try a video call (using Skype or Google Hangouts). Are many other experiencing this as well? I figured that it was a software issue, but perhaps it's hardware related, in which case I will exchange/return my display.

The issues involving sleep/wake are not confined to just these LG displays. My 2016 15" MacBook had frequent sleep-wake failures, which yield an automatic reboot, with a garden variety BenQ display. The triggers were having the HDMI cable plugged into the Apple AV Multiport adapter, then closing the lid to put the MB to sleep. It never happened until 10.12.2 was installed. Worked long and hard with Apple 2nd tier...the only thing we didn't do was replace the MacBook. Rolled back to 10.12.1 via Time Machine and the sleep-wake failures disappeared.

I have had the LG 5K display for almost 2 weeks. My first issue was triggered as follows - open MB lid - LG had 3 large square coloured areas - MB display black - keyboard lid - MB rebooted itself - no error message. Second issue was triggered as follows - open lid - MB OK but LG not recognized (black screen, System Preference - Display no LG info). These issues took place once only before 10.12.3 installed.

None of the other issues in this thread have raised their ugly head, so far. I think the root cause is with 10.12.2 and also QC issues of the LG display itself.

As others have said, the display is stunning. The frame colour seems a nice compliment to my space grey MacBook. I really like the MacBook's control over brightness, volume, etc, but the lack of a power button on the LG still feels a tad weird. The industrial design is definitely LG and not Apple, but personally that doesn't rock my boat in a negative way. I think some people are being obsessively bothered by the metal stand, plastic frame and the "chin", etc.

Is anyone bothered by the wobble on this display? It's noticeably worse than the dell 4k it replaced. Any solutions?

I'm on an Ikea bekant desk with the display almost at it's lowest position, and it visibly wobbles when I type.

I updated and left the display connected to sleep. I was able to wake up the MBP and display today after overnight sleep.
It was encouraging but I will try again tonight.

2nd morning for me with the new monitor and all is great (knock wood). Wakes up from sleep no issues, not randomly disconnecting/ejecting hard drives, Apple Watch unlocking works every time, and it's looking great.
So the combination of the replacement monitor and latest Mac OS has done the trick for me!
Hoping it continues smoothly.

My computer desk has a lower keyboard shelf and I see no wobble when I type. I have to rap on the glass desktop to see noticeable wobble of the LG, which is raised maybe 33% from lowest.

Can you test out on a different surface to see if the Ikea is the issue?

So is the general consensus that the update helped with the display issue. I am eagerly awaiting the good word.

No wobble I put mine on an arm.

So anyone else have image retention problems with this LG panel yet?

Only a matter of time I suspect.

Are others having issues with the USB-C ports, camera, and speakers dropping out when on a video call?

I'm asking a perfectly reasonable question and if you don't like it then that's hardly my problem.

If anyone's had image retention issues with this 5k panel please say so.

Seriously? Do you really expect us to believe you don't have an axe to grind? Look at your signature. It would be "perfectly reasonable" for just about anyone here but you. So yes, give it rest because all you are doing is trying to create issues where, so far, there are none. The panel used in the 5G is supposed to the same panel Apple uses in the iMac. Are iMac people reporting image retention issues? If they are, it hasn't been a trend.....

8 out of 12 retina iMac owners could see retention in their 5k panels, I have a poll going here to try and document the issue.

I want to find someone with image retention with this new 5k LG panel, so I can ask them to do some tests to see if it behaves in the same way retention does in the iMac. I want to know if we can expect the retention problem in the iMac to be solved in the upcoming 2017 model (assuming here that the new iMac would use this same new LG panel).

Also, there's also a theory that the retention in the iMacs is caused by the iMacs heating up and damaging the screen (since its all in one unit). So if absolutely nobody with a separate 5k LG panel notices any retention then this would make this theory more plausible.

Got a 13" TouchBar entry level 13" MacBook Pro and 5K display set up yesterday. The immediate issues are so obvious:

1.) Shutting down the system sometimes results in a giant cursor stuck on the screen, with a small cursor you can move around, but it never shuts down.

2.) Brightness adjustment "lags" when you press the brightness keys on an external Apple keyboard. The on-screen indicator is several beats behind when you press the key, and the entire process just lags.

3.) Volume leveling is plain broken. As others have stated, one volume bar is too quiet, two bars is too loud already. What?! However, as was also mentioned, SHIFT+OPTION+VOL. Adjustment = micro changes of the volume. Thank goodness for this, because how this issue made it past QC boggles my mind.

Aside from that, this is a lovely screen. There are just clearly some quirks and bugs that need to be ironed out. I have a USB C Gigabit adapter coming today, so we'll see what speed that runs at...

What version of the OS are you running when experiencing these issues.

Awesome! Glad to hear it.

10.2.3. Latest release as of today.
I was hopping the update would help with all the issues. I really loved the look of this display.

The MacBook Pro screen has spoiled me on P3 and brightness

Now I understand why the Apple Cinema displays don't wobble. The mount of the arm to the back of the monitor is very wide, which keeps the monitor stable. I don't think the wobble would bother me though, just a thought about the attention to detail Apple had with their monitors.

I'm still on the fence on getting the LG 5K. I'm fearful of the monitor being unable to connect to anything in the future.

The LG doesn't wobble on, say, my kitchen counter top, and my dell 4k doesn't wobble on the Ikea desk, but the Ikea desk + less than stable LG stand = noticeable wobble. I guess my question is, does the LG actually have a weak stand compared to other displays in this class, or do I have a defective unit? And if the stand just is poorly designed, are people having better luck with desk mounts?

Now that the software bugs are getting ironed out I am really liking this display, and would love to keep it if I can figure out a way to solve this wobble issue...

No wobble I put mine on an arm.

Did you compare this setup, by chance, to the display's built-in stand and notice it was significantly better? And if you don't mind sharing, what arm are you using?
