FWIW, I had an excellent experience with LG Support. I own two LG UltraFine 5K monitors and one of the stands was wobbly from day one. I called them and they sent me two new stands (I only asked for one). If you own an UltraFine monitor, you know that these stands are legit metal, not just plastic, so I am very thankful for LG Support.

I received shipment of four 5K monitors, but two of them had crack on the panels. Took a picture for one of them. :(

From this thread (best to continue chat in the single "Owners Thread"!):
#21 @ LG 5K Ultrafine Out of Stock?

Interesting, I didn't even realise that the "LG Screen Manager" software was actually available from the MAS:
https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/lg-screen-manager-lg-monitor/id1142051783

It shows:
Updated: 20 Mar 2019
Version: 2.31

Supported Monitors:
22MD4KA
24MD4KL
27MD5KA
27
MD5KL

I think the "L" model is just a regional variation identifier (maybe for Indian versions of the 5K?), rather than specifically a new model.

Just seeing now if I can update the screen mgr I got with my two LG 5K's...
____________
EDIT 1:
Should have seen this, lol:
FYI for anyone who missed it: LG Screen Manager software can be downloaded from the App Store. The latest firmware version, AFAIK, is 3.04.
____________
EDIT 2:
Well I disconnected one of my two LG 5K's so I could update the screen mgr sw(*), but no update to just the mgr sw appeared (never mind the display sw itself).

Now I've downloaded the MAS version (2.31), which has overwritten the one I got with the displays originally in my Apps folder.

"Monitor software version" shows as:
3.04,1.13,5237,3.04,0.1e

So looks to have done nothing AFAICT. Oh well, at least I have v2.31 instead of the older version of the mgr sw – perhaps it may help somehow in future. :-|

* Tip: drag desktop screens across to your second LG 5K that you're keeping connected, so you don't have to re-fiddle with setting up what's on the first one you're temporarily disconnecting, leaving just a blank desktop screen on the one you want to unplug. Then reconnect and drag the desktops back across again, afterwards. ;-)
____________
EDIT 3:
If you download the screen mgr sw from the MAS, one wonders if this means multi-5K users will see updates to it without having to unplug one of their displays? Likely yes, as the MAS doesn't discriminate on such things. So recommended regardless.
(though likely you'll still have to unplug one to actually check for the "Monitor software version" sw update, itself?!)

I had checked earlier today when the app updated. Unfortunately, they didn't "fix" anything related to a valid URL for cross-checking installed firmware to their maintained database. Same problem of the app reaching a blocked/broken URL and the app returning a successful check to the user which is false. The app is still only good for updating firmware and factory resets. Of course, there may be a point in the future when they open up the URL for an actual update to be released. I'm doubtful but would like to be surprised. Especially, when the new Apple display and Pro computers are released. The IPS panel in the monitor is very nice though.

After downloading the version of screen mgr from the MAS, I now have different options (basically the "Screen Split" sidebar options have disappeared).
I never use it anyway, but LG's software updates get stranger by the minute.

Weird.

Low Grade showing you that they want to support this product on macOS for the long haul and provide all of the features that they've promised. They've done similar crippling and dropping of support on many of their other consumer products in the past. I would prefer them to just manufacture components for other companies to build a final product. I really don't care for them after this past fiasco for just getting something as simple as a firmware update. I resorted to asking others on this board, who were awesome to come through on my request, instead the company. Their customer support are clueless. I can't imagine the number of these displays which will be up for sale come Apple offering their own 5K+ monitor.

Thanks LG Screen Manager app developers for writing into the new app code to always create a directory for "possible firmware updates" with this newest version 2.31. Idiots!

Just wanted to throw in my experience with the update to the Screen Manager App, as I own both a 4K and 5K. On my 4K the application did prompt me to update and successfully updated the monitor software to the latest version.

On the 5K it did not prompt me to update, but I also believe I have the latest version out there (thanks to those on the forum!). Might be worth a shot to check if you think you're not on the latest version.

Hopefully this helps!

Do you have version 2.31 from the App Store? Did you happen to save the firmware for the 4K? I don't have this monitor but I did have someone ask me for it. I told them that if I came across the file that I would help them out. Thanks.

Yes, this is version 2.31 from the app store. I am happy to try and extract the file (if that's even possible), but I'd need guidance to do so. From what I've gathered it's more involved to get to the software file.

I wouldn't know if the app developers have programmed the update function to delete the firmware after updating when using the automatic update feature. Using the manual update; the file is left intact. I would suggest the first place to look is in the "/Applications/LG\ Screen\ Manager.app/Contents/Resources/" directory. The firmware update utility, 'dfu-utility_mac', is located here along with a directory named "update_data". I would imagine the file is downloaded to this "update_data" folder. The file name will include the model along with multiple references to the different firmware it installs with the *.zip extension. The file is password-protected though and deciphered by the app.

BTW. Did you have a folder created by the LG Screen Manager App having the model name somewhere in your Home directory or sub-directory? Mine is created each time the app is opened in my "~/Downloads".

It does not look like the .zip file is in the update_data folder (nor anywhere else I looked in the contents folder), so it does look like it auto deletes.

As for the Folders, Yes! I do have two folders created in my Downloads folder, one for each monitor.

Thanks for looking. I would wager that the app downloads the *.zip file to a tmp directory, unlocks it for the *.bin files and moves those to the "update_data" folder after extraction prior to the update. I'll see what I can determine for the file tmp download but it probably is deleted from that location after extraction or completion of the update. Those who've saved the file probably retrieved it before actually updating.

Try closing out the app, delete/rename/move the folders, and then reopen the app. Were the folders recreated?

If you want to check your "/tmp" directory to see if it was downloaded there.

Nothing in the temp folder, looks like a folder was created for the update:

"com.LGSI.-.LG-Screen-Manager"

But it is now empty.

Thanks LG.

If you want to check your "/tmp" directory, then it could still be there.

BTW. My first thought was this folder is created when an update check is initiated. But, I wouldn't know for certain that this folder is where a potential firmware update file is downloaded to before extracting and then applying the update. So, the file may have been downloaded to this directory and then deleted from here. The only way to know would be to look in your log files. I don't know why they would have changed the directory and/or added this function of creating the directory. However, they did mask the URL now in version 2.31 which was previously visible. Thanks for your time in looking and replying.

That maybe the location. It looks like it's for on screen controls with the LGSI reference.

Sorry you lost me here, what's this about?

The LG Screen Manager App which was recently updated to version 2.31 will create a folder named after the model of the display in your Home directory. From mine and another reporting it is in your "~/Downloads" directory. Even if you delete the folder, it will be recreated each time you open the app.

Ah yes, I get you. I have "27MD5KB" folder in my ~/Downloads directory. Bit of a pain in the backside to have it there, especially as it's a new thing AFAICT, but will just delete it each time.

Yep, an annoyance. IMO, this was added intentionally. Developers hired by LG to write this software aren't so inept with a basic app such as this that it's very unlikely it was overlooked or just a bug. Either way, LG sucks.

Seems like they've added support for new monitor - 24MD4KL. Naming scheme looks similar to existing models. New 24" UltraFine possibly?

Probably another internal hardware change such as the A and B variant. Update notes for app state adding logic board support. Could be specifically released for one region.

Yup. Should be 3840 x 2160. Listed on Energy Star site - certified on 12/31/2018 - US market, 23.7", 8.3 megapixels, Thunderbolt with built in speakers, Maximum Luminance (candelas per square meter): 540, EPD II (38.4 CIE LUV/99% Adobe RGB area or greater), Display Contrast Ratio at 0 deg. Horiz. Viewing Angle:1200. No camera listed but that may be unintentional.

FYI - A 3840x2160 panel is already used in the 24UD58 so may be only a new case adding speakers and TB.

If true, it might be good middle ground between 22" and 27" models for many people. Strange thing is, at given specs the PPI will be only 185.9. So not true Retina. Also the Adobe RGB instead of P3 color spectrum seems interesting.
