Can I hook it up to my iPad and play that stupid no car Frogger game from Arcade on it?

I know what my wife would do with it. Look at FB on it and yap about it all night.

Either way, I'm not dropping that kind of coin on a TV no matter how good it is.

And to think they ruined that almost priceless view with an overpriced screen . . . what are we coming to? Get rid of the screen and live!

Doesn't matter, there won't be any 8K content to watch on it for 10 years.

Hell there isn't even enough 4K content to justify 4K TV's.
8K isn't even an option for many people. Until faster internet connections are ubiquitous, any investment in such tech is pointless. 4K can still have issues with slower internet connections.

Someone answer me this: for the new LG, Samsung, Sony "Smart TVs" that have Apple TV pre-loaded, what exactly does that mean? Is it any different from having a standalone Apple TV box plugged into the HDMI port?

I am trying to understand if I need to upgrade my old Apple TV unit, or just buy a brand new TV with Apple TV pre-loaded.

At the moment the LG TVs don’t have the Apple TV app. Just airplay 2 and HomeKit. Whether they will get it remains to be seen. So it might be prudent to buy a 4K Apple TV especially as you will get tv+ free for a year.

In terms of horsepower the Amazon app built into my 2019 65inch LG does 4K quite well although I noticed at the weekend it struggled with the live (presumably) 4K stream of the women’s US Open final. When I switched to my firestick the (presumably) 1080 stream was fine. Adding to the mix, the TV coped fine with the BBC 4K Centre Court coverage during Wimbledon.

My internet is 200mbps cable distributed via gigabit Ethernet.

I’ve never understood why 37% more surface area costs 6x more when it comes to TVs.

I would guess that it's catastrophically expensive to produce the panels. They'll also only be made in tiny numbers, and quite likely there will be a lot of failed or subpar yields that are scrapped. This is fringe stuff. Not aimed at the average consumer. But it's great that there is a market, however small, for such things. This is how technology moves forward - it's just that people have to pay for it.

Thank you. I was waiting to see if a new Apple TV would be announced yesterday. I went ahead and ordered the 4K box last night. The year of Apple TV+ was icing on the cake.

We have had a mixed experience with our 2018 LG TV. The picture is great but connecting to our Wifi router used to be really spotty (in a part of the house with strong signal) and our Sony bluetooth headphones often don't connect automatically.

There's currently nothing in 8K to watch on it. And by the time there is, LG will want you to upgrade to a newer model in order to do so. ;)
Upconversion. You spend more money on TV's rather than getting cheaper ones for the image processing. So even without 8k content the image quality of existing content will look better.
My LG OLED can make 1080 content look like 4k(at least pretty damn close). So this one will look great and last for many years.
In time prices will come down, they always do.

I believe it's because of yields. The larger the panel, the larger the chance of a panel flaw. In turn, the price is higher to make up for the bad batches. At least, this is how it used to be.

I'm really glad they are blocking that panoramic window view...the Stamp Tool they used in the sky is annoying...too bad the TV doesn't block that portion.

LG TVs usually have only 7 days of updates support. Once the TV is sold. LG’s responsibility is over.

for 30k it better get more than one year of support... LG has bad long term support from what I've seen and yeah for 30k it better have airplay 2

Aside from that, my previous LG OLED started crapping out in less than three years (dead/black pixels.) Very disappointing build quality on that thing (G6, not one of their cheaper TV's at the time.) Worse, it was one of the last 3D TVs anyone made and they don't have those replacement panels just sitting around.

Which is to say I now own a Samsung. :) I wouldn't pay even 2,000 bucks for the cheaper LED TV from LG.
