I tried the Dell 4k 27’ was a nice panel, but was really missing the auto brightness feature and was still not the same color gamma (the white was totally different) as my macbook screen so returned it. I wanted to try LG Ultrafine to see if that is better, but its out of stock since mid december and also now its gone totally from apple Netherlands store. i hope that Apple is releasing its own displays again. Who owned/owning LG Ultrafine are auto brightness and color match alike the macbook pro screen? Of corse some difference can be as ppi is different but as color gamma is almost the same right?

I'm not sensitive to that, but… yeah, it is good.

The only problem was a delay that sometimes made them not sync until I opened the Display prefpane and switched off/on the True Tone. I've since turned off True Tone and auto brightness; because as my home office is placed there was just something a bit off about it, and I ended up preferring a warmer room with colder displays.

Yeah, Benq and Asus are producing some nice Thunderbolt monitors. Build quality seems better than the LG ones on Apple's site.

I'm a bit thrown by the 'in early development' phrase we're seeing in reports of Apple's alleged monitor plans though. Surely a lot of the design is going to be taken from the forthcoming iMac's build, which they've reportedly been working on for some time (and are rumoured to be launching in March).
It could also be that LG are about to release the 3rd generation of their ultrafine monitors for Mac. Even if Apple release a new Thunderbolt Monitor, it won't surprise me if it's price above LG's, so LG still has a place in the market (even if it's going to be a smaller market - unless they make them work better with Windows too).

Didn't LG just showcase the next generation of Ultrafine displays, including a OLED version? Maybe these will replace the ones not listed in Apple Store anymore.
From what I remember reading, LG just announced a 32" Ultrafine display. I don't recall any announcement to a successor to the 24" or 27" models.

Stop being cheap just buy the XDR.

lol

Honestly I can say that I don't want a monitor that big, personally

I rolled with an LG 31MU97 (4k DCI) for about 5 years and it was just to big for me, and how/where I have my setup and the far L/R were just wasted on me. It was only a relief to go back down the 27/28 size range.

Right now I'm actually on a 24" we had around the house, just waiting on what might release this year to decide what to do next.

Since there aren't any rumors about first-party displays from Apple releasing anytime soon, either LG is updating their displays or they are really being discontinued. Does anyone remember how the last LG refresh happende? Did the previous models also disappear from the store first?

Exactly. Apple has finally heard the resounding clatter of the 'ker-ching'.
Just because something is expensive that doesn't mean that there's profit for everyone in it; same with everyone wanting to buy something, that just isn't a guarantee that they actually will pay enough to even cover the costs.

Remember, Apple doesn't make these panels, they have to convince others to do that.

I don't have high-end display needs, but I have been looking for 'a decent' display to both work-from-home on my company 13" MacBook Pro and/or replace my Late 2012 21.5" iMac (which won't upgrade to OS11) with a Mac Mini.

I was all set to buy the 24" LG, but they've all but disappeared in UK stores & most of the used eBay listings have dubious descriptions / marks.

Bought a far cheaper Phillips as it had USB-C to run in clamshell mode, but it's horrible to look at and the speakers & built-in webcam are garbage. #buycheapbuytwice

If Apple released anything in this space, the entire world would rejoice.
Many would be thrilled. Many would scoff at the price or just hate on Apple, and some, who’ve just bought the LF ultrafine, would be gutted because they’ve missed out on what they may have preferred.

You misunderstand - I'm saying Apple has seen the enormous gap in the market.

Like others on the forum, I was considering the 24" 4k Ultrafine - two, actually, for development work. Would have been a lot more functional/useful in my usage than buying a single 27" 5k. Even though there re rumors Apple is developing a cheaper XDR monitor, even if true, I doubt (and someone also posted the same opinion) it'll be in the $700-$1200 range. I guess it's not completely implausible since I bought their 27" Cinema display back in 2010 for $995.
