Ok, after a couple days now with the gen4 (I guess that's what we are calling it) it is still working flawlessly.
The top/left is still raised due to the proximity sensor, but doesn't affect performance any. I have inspected the back of the phone thoroughly and can't see any signs of wear from the two bumps.

Do you have any rainbow/oil slicks under your screen at all ?

That's a Gen 3 case. I just put my phone back into that case as this version won't damage the back of your phone. I'm afraid the newer one with the hard plastic pieces will.

I might use the front shell from the 4th gen with my 3rd gen back.

So why cant you use the 3rd GEN front shell?

I think you may have gotten a rep that just didn't want to tell you that the case they mailed out isn't the newest version (or the newest version before they removed the plastic). It's just a strange occurrence that all of us talking about the numbers on the back and we haven't once found a 220xxx with the plastic, so I think the numbers mean when they were produced and they don't start over at every place that makes them.

I returned a 220xxx case yesterday to BB and found two 256xxx and the one I purchased has the two plastic parts and no foam on the front, this case I feel is more responsive to touches and lays much flatter at the bottom and top (left top corner will hopefully flatten out, but the plastic part on the prox sensor is keeping it up I think)

can you take a pic or someone reference a pic of the prox sensor issue yall speak of please?

thats great! Hope it stays like that. Does the music being played have the vibrate issue or when you talk on the phone issue?

I'm not experiencing any vibration at all. It of course sounds more muffled, but that's to be expected in these cases.

How can a softer substance like plastic scratch or damage a harder material like aluminum? People take metal keys to the iPhone front and back trying to scratch it and fail.

Ideally, if one would wish to purchase a white fre, what lot would be the most desired to get?

Just to update. I bought a white fre at BB and got 187,000. Can confirm it is 4th gen and has minimal oil slicks around left side (1/4inch, if that much).

Awesome news guys!! Hopefully everyone has the same luck finding a gen4 at their local BB.
Make sure you ask the store employee if you can open the case to look at the back and do not just rely on the product number. If they want to make the sale, they will have no problem letting you open and look. (At least my BB was that way)
Remember to look for the back piece that has the two bumps spaced out below the apple window.

does anybody else's case look like there is a gap between the bottom and top piece when the phone is in the case?

edit: also in the 4th case did they fix the screen? or is it still anti glare like?

My screen looks pretty good. I'll take it apart and get some pics of the material and see what you think.

So is the gen 4 case any better than the gen 3? I'm currently using the gen 3.

I, personally, can tell a big difference between the 3 & 4.
My 3 had pillowing in the screen protector and vibrated bad when music was turned up.

Here is the flatness of the gen4 edition:

**you can tell there is a slight bump just above the proximity sensor, but otherwise nice and flat.

I agree 100%. I was thinking the exact same. So far I'm loving it. Much easier to use the phone and text especially!

How's the volume level? I have mine turned all the way up when I'm on the phone or speakerphone and it's still not very loud. Any complaints from others about echoing?

----------

Also did y'all just return the case then go look for another one and buy it?

I actually exchanged mine at BB after I knew what to look for.

The volume is kinda low, but haven't had anyone complain about how I sound on the other end. Of course, being in a water-tight case....I wasn't expecting great sound from the speakers anyway.

I just explained the different revisions to the employee, and opened the gen4 and showed them the difference.....and they let me swap it. They also thanked me for the info

for those of you experiencing the rainbow effect...I had two small ones but still was a little annoying, I tried baby powder and so for that works like a charm! it's a bit lengthy to type out but if anyone wants to know how let me know and I'll type it out

The thing I find the hardest is to get the dang specks off the screen lol the little dust before I put my phone in

I heard about this previously and gave it a try with some gold bond (kinda figured it'd work the same) but I kept getting a noticeable amount on the screen and ended up wiping it all off every time. The bottle was kind of full so perhaps it would have been any easier if it wasn't. Any tips though?

And I agree - I find it super-difficult to get all of the dust off. I feel like I start statically charging the screen after I start trying to get all the specs off and I end up making them stick to it or something. That white microfiber that comes with the case seems to add more dust to it than it removes. I had a little more success with the one from my sunglasses but it's still difficult to find something that really seems lint-free. Anyone have any good tips on that?
