Are you referring to the buzzing happening when using the speakerphone? Some of the 2nd and 3rd revisions of the case included attempts to fix this buzzing by adding more padding on the lower 3rd section of the back of the case. I simply did the same using my own materials. Some have said light 3M padding tape would work too.

There is not much you can do about the small popping sounds from the ear piece until the air has escaped the case over time.

I rarely use the speakerphone. I am talking about the buzzing sound from the earpiece. Like a bee in my ear. I have a fear of wasp, so maybe that's why I hate that sound so much.

People are still doing some "fixes" for the LifeProof after how many revisions now?

You have to come up with a "fix" for a $80 case? wth

You make a great point. My case was free, sorta. Long story. I'm TRYING to make it work. It has a really great upside. Slim, waterproof, shock resistant, and it looks great. Downsides are there though. I guess most cases have downsides. I was at Best Buy today, and noticed the case with the "wood" back was $49!!!!! Not waterproof, and in my opinion....just ugly.

To each their own.

Yeah the case looks great but to pay at least $80 for a case that needs to be "fixed" is crazy especially after all these revisions.

I went through one LifeProof case and returned it immediately after encountering some of the issues that are documented in this thread. I would have kept the case if the only issue was the oil slick effect. Sadly there's more issues than that. =\

I have sent back multiple cases for one reason or another. At one point I had 3 cases, 2 of which were supposed to go back to LP. They got one of them back :)

The other went back to Best Buy. (Evil laugh)

Is there anyway to get rid of those oil marks? I really don't want to try baby powder. I was thinking of getting a Zagg screen protector, but those are expensive and if it doesn't work then that another expense for an $80 case. Lifeproof says not to use a screen protector with their cases.

Also, another question, does anyone have kind of like a bump on the screen towards the bottom of the phone? When I scroll down there seems to be a bump which is annoying.

if you go to lifeproof they have FAQ's that say about the oil slicks if you are having those.

I wish I could buy one of these... I had it on my iP4s and it was great, but now they are charging 107,99US$ for anyone in Europe! Wth dudes?? I'm not gonna pay 30 dollars more, this is outrageous...

Considering the overwhelming amount of complaints that I see all over the forum regarding this case with the iPhone 5 - I would steer far away from dumping your money on one of these cases if I were you.

I mean for $80.00 and they correct their manufacturing defects with some cheap stickem foam pads in the case...WTF is up with that? I mean really talk about poor quality control and passing the buck over to the customer.

Disgraceful is what comes to mind for me anyway.

Did the condensed air and all of the oil slick marks are totally gone....worked perfectly. I am keeping my fingers crossed they don't come back.

I wish someone would post a video of this trick. I've tried it with no luck. Not using enough air? Too much?

Have all of you removed the white piece that partially covers the clear piece over the Apple logo on the back?

I did. With the plastic straw, I sprayed air along the sides, top and bottom, but really didn't see a difference. It's the dusting air, right?

OK, I'll bite. Scanned the thread but never saw anything about removing the white piece (although this is a really long thread). Does it really do nothing?

Yes, you peel it up, it's attached to a thin clear protector over the inside of the clear logo window.
You are suppose to remove this before installing the phone. :)

Thanks. Now that I feel reasonably dumb, let me try another. I've had a LP 4S case for over a year and love it. The access port on that case is absolutely firm and does not move at all. On my new 5 case, which passed the water test just fine, if I push upward on the closed door there is just a tiny bit of play and a tiny clicking sound. Anyone else have this, or is it a cause for worry? My earth colored case seems pretty good having had it one day. Few Newton rings but by and large, the sound is similar to my 4S case and no problem.

Not sure what you mean. Where is the sound coming from? Did the case completely seal around all sides?

They are all like this. :)

So the tape fixed the buzzing but you won't be able to use speakerphone. Also, if you're recording video you will only get sound from the front camera, not the back. Example, FaceTime will still work but don't record your kid singing.

Oh LifeProof.

$80 case and people are still looking for "fixes" and unnecessary compromises is unacceptable.

I agree. I think the purpose of the forum is to discuss the problems and search for solutions. While it's an imperfect case, it's really only missing on a couple of features. However, I think ALL phone cases are far overpriced, and LP is no exception. I remember how disappointed I was at how thin and flimsy the material was when I first took it out of the box.

Overall, I'd rate the case a C+ or a B-

It does what it says it does (water, snow, dirt, shock proof) but fails at a couple of standard quality features. I wouldn't tell someone NOT to buy it, but rather inform them to keep the receipt.

Update on condensed air: The next day there were no oil slicks but my phone got really hot throughout the day....the battery drained and phone was totally dead in about 7 hours with little use. The next day phone died in about 8 hours with little use. Called Apple and they did a diagnostics on my phone.....then suggested a full restore which we did. I am hoping today that my battery life is back to usual...... Would the condensed air have anything to do with affecting the battery life somehow?

very doubtful that it would have any effect on battery life

After a couple days with my latest Fre case the Newton rings began to really annoy me. Love the case and tried every tactic to remove the rings (minus the baby powder) so I remembered a trick we had to do on the Otterbox defender case on the iPhone 3G/3Gs model due to the HUGE newton ring issues placing a ant-glare screen protector.

Picked one up and solved the problem instantly. Since the film is very thin and not very "anti-glare" to begin with it doesn't cause any interference or issue with typing. Definitely recommended for anyone with the same issue. I picked up my screen protector from AT&T but I'm sure any cheap, generic one will work fine.

Here's some pics to show with the protector on..

I made a post on how I permanently got rid of my newton ring issue aka oil slicks. A cheap anti-glare film works perfectly fine. No resistance on the screen and no issue with a water test. No need to spend so much on a Zaggs when a simple $10 or less anti-glare film works great.

My biggest complaint I have with my lifeproof case that I'm not going to bother trying to fix is the damn distortion from the vibration the case makes when the speaker is loud. I love this case but I'm with everyone else that Lifeproof really should have done more research before releasing this.
