I made a post on how I permanently got rid of my newton ring issue aka oil slicks. A cheap anti-glare film works perfectly fine. No resistance on the screen and no issue with a water test. No need to spend so much on a Zaggs when a simple $10 or less anti-glare film works great.

My biggest complaint I have with my lifeproof case that I'm not going to bother trying to fix is the damn distortion from the vibration the case makes when the speaker is loud. I love this case but I'm with everyone else that Lifeproof really should have done more research before releasing this.

If you don't plan on using speakerphone or video taping much, you can put a couple of thin strips of scotch tape over the mic on the back. I did that and it solved the buzzing/vibration. I took the tape off so that I could video something (video uses the mic on the back for sound) and I've noticed the buzzing is back.

for the 180th time. lifeproof cases are crap. if you have to put tape on them in order for them to work, return them and get something better for pete's sake!!!

Well, for me the case is somewhat of a gift. So I have the case, I want to know what I can do to make it better. I'm sure that if you just hate the case and no longer have the case, you wouldn't have much of a need to continue to post here. For me, I wanna know what I can do that fixes the buzzing sound or the newton rings. I'm sure that is what a lot of people are doing on here.

The case isn't worth the money, but that doesn't help those of us trying to make the best of it.

Rings can be fixed with light baby powder dusted on the inside screen protector.

I am not able to reproduce buzzing sounds from the earpiece and it doesn't seem to be mentioned at all in the complaints in this thread.

The back panel vibration and buzzing against the back can be fixed by adding light padding at the lower 3rd section of the back.

Proximity sensor issues - not much you can do but keep the sensor area clean (no natural skin oils or dirt).

What is the difference between the cases with the clear plastic looking cubes on the back and the cases without the cubes?

The one with the clear blocks is just a "Jerry Rigged" mess where Lifeproof was trying to fix the sound problems on this case. The other is their finished product that still sucks.

HA, that's funny. I have the "latest" ....I guess. Stuffed a torn up cotton ball in the back of my case today. Hoping to eliminate the buzzing in the earpiece without covering up the back mic.

The journey continues....

Considering the overwhelming amount of complaints that I see all over the forum regarding this case with the iPhone 5 - I would steer far away from dumping your money on one of these cases if I were you.

I mean for $80.00 and they correct their manufacturing defects with some cheap stickem foam pads in the case...WTF is up with that? I mean really talk about poor quality control and passing the buck over to the customer.

Disgraceful is what comes to mind for me anyway.

But what is the real problem with them?
Do they protect from water damage and shock? If so is ok for me, sounds problem means kinda nothing, as I rather send messages than call someone or if the problem is with the speakers, I never listen music without earphone...

Shhh you can't say anything, the case just sucks plain and simple /s. but I agree the case does what it's intended to do, they all seem to have some annoyance for some people

Lol xD I guess so... I'm planning to buy it, but here in Europe is 107 dollars... I'm a lil bit angry about it...

So after hearing people complain that they couldn't hear me, I sound like I'm in a tunnel, sound distortion I decided to give up on the Lifeproof. Sadly I love this case but having to raise my voice for people to hear me and doing all sorts of rigging to get it working I'm giving up.

I don't know if it's allowed on here but if anyone is interested I have it for sale. Black model with 1yr warranty with the belt holster and car dock. PM if interested.

Try this: take the phone out of the case and blow from the inside out on the bottom of the front case, where the mic and speaker of your phone sit. Blow hard about 3 times for like 5 seconds each time.

I know it sounds crazy, but it actually worked for me.

I'm just curious about the "proximity buzzing". I have a new case. It has virtually no Newton rings; the sound is no different than the 4S case that saved my phone numerous times over the years. Same slight decrease in sound from the other end, same slight vibration of the case when using speakerphone. I'm perfectly happy with the case. It does, however, have this occasional buzz during a call. The proximity sensor works fine; goes off when it's supposed to and back on when it's supposed to. I really don't mind the buzzing at all; it seems to happen when dialing, and then maybe once every few minutes while talking, and lasts no more than a half second. No way I would return this case for that reason, but I'm trying to figure out what causes it. The proximity sensor doesn't vibrate normally. Anyone actually figured out what causes this? I noticed one person said it went away after a while; as these cases remain on for more than a few weeks, the screen protector tends to stretch a little, but this doesn't seem to have anything to do with the screen protector. Anyone know for sure?

Yea I'm done messing around with this. I really wanted to give this case a fighting chance. Hence why I bought the additional accessories. The fact that people have trouble hearing me was the deal breaker. I use bluetooth in the car but I'm not walking around with one all the time. I totally understand a waterproof case has issues but the iPhone 4 model was superior.

I put two very thinly cut strips of scotch tape over the microphone on the back of the phone, between the camera and the flash. This has eliminated the buzzing sound I get when on phone calls, so I can only assume that the buzzing comes from some sort of noise canceling interference that is caused by the case. However, there is a downside. That microphone is use for speakerphone, so I can no longer talk on speakerphone while I have the microphone tape. It is also used in recording video, so you will not have sound if the microphone is taped.

The saga continues...

I've had the earth colored case for a couple weeks now and the only problem is the oil slick which isn't a problem for me. I use a bluetooth stereo in my car & bluetooth Motorola S11 while running or biking... The case does do as advertised and for those that don't like it just go back to a non-waterproof case cause every case that protects from the elements you're gonna cry about. I just picked up the pink for the gf and she loves it.

And since iOS 6.1.3 broke the Evasi0n jailbreak this case is a must for anybody that wants to keep the JB and does outdoor activities!

And yes I will try the Atlas when it comes out next year:rolleyes:

the otterbox armor protects from water and does not have any of the issues with oil slicks and sound that the lifeproof cases have. so your statement is false.

Yea but I would have to use a 5th wheel to pack that along. I'm sure if Incipio or Lifeproof made a case that was twice the size like the Armor they wouldn't have had as many problems either. To each his own. Why you on a time-out:confused:...

As an owner of the Otterbox Armor (and previous owner of the LifeProof and Seidio OBEX), I can say that your statement is false.

The oil slick issue also occurs on the Otterbox Armor but not as bad as the LifeProof case. ;)
